Hardin is well-known and considered perhaps the most cold-blooded gunfighter. H'se also known for killing a number of men with a Bowie Knife, testing a gun before purchase by shooting and killing a black man walking on the other side of the street, and killed another man in a hotel by shooting through the common wall, ostensibly for snoring. Hardin's body count appears to have been in the 20's, while Hardin claimed over 34... he wasn't sure he remembered them all. After Hardin became infamous, Wild Bill was questioned by reporters and had no recollection of ever meeting Hardin, while Hardin was quick to brag on his supposed meeting with Wild Bill.
As a Texan, born and bred, I recognized all except Vaughn. Really liked the video. Enough so that I subscribed to your channel. Thank you.

@@randallECTRIC John was a gentleman, a churchgoers, and a product of his time and place.I believe the desperado or gunman title is a bit unfair....I regard him as a man who while a little hot headed, simply didn't put up with bullshit in a dangerous time and place.
Good video - thanks. Only Vaughan was unknown to me. I lived 12 years in El Paso and have been to Hardin's grave in old Concordia Cemetery. His killer, John Selman, is also buried there. Selman himself was reputed to have killed at least 10 men. Downtown you can make the gunfighter's walk and there are places that point out certain shootouts, such as the site of the old Keating’s Saloon where the "four dead in five seconds" occurred.

I've heard of all of them, Hardin in particular is pretty well-known. Plenty of books, mentions in non-fiction series, the subject of two movies, was a stock villain in TV westerns, and has been played by Neville Brand, Jack Elam, Charles Bronson, Rock Hudson, and Randy Quaid among others. A coworker's brother-in-law had a playing card Hardin shot through; his wife threw it in the trash when he died, not understanding the significance.

...and "Deacon" Jim Miller was John Wesley Hardin's cousin by marriage. King Fisher, Luke Short, Charlie Storms and "Longhair Jim" Courtright (the last two, Storms and Courtright, who made the mistake of underestimating Luke Short) were every bit as deadly as the men on this list, and indeed actually less well known.

I'm surprised John Wesley Hardin is on this list. I would think his name is very recognizable. I'll say at least Hardin was smart enough not to jump in the middle of a disagreement between Wild Bill and Ben Thompson. Two stone killers. LOVE the field of Bluebonnets by the way.

I also lived in Texas.Hardin is known there.
Heard of all but Vaughan. Anyone who has read history of the Old West would know these gunmen.
Evil Roy Slade, most evil gunslinger to have ever lived.

The first isn't a gunslinger just a petty criminal. Harden we know
Many of us like to think we were born 100 years too late. Commodore Perry Owens was born 100 years too early. He missed his calling. Total hippie. Perfect rock star. Country rock. Or maybe a band like Riders In The Sky.

Hippie Gunfighters were common in the west there was also Longhaired Jim Courtwright and another little known Gunfighter James Butler Hickok. Two minor mistakes were made in the early part of his story Navajo Springs is not Holbrook it is 20 or so miles East of there, and C.P. Owens father Oliver Hazard Owens was named after the Commadore, nor was he named for Mathew Perry who did not visit Japan till 2 years after CP's birth. otherwise a good telling of the story.

Killer miller, killin Jim Miller, deacon Jim did not drink smoke or curse but he had no problem killing. Bud Fraser would have beat and kill him twice when he got up after several chest shots bud Fraser nerve left him and he ran. He died bravely though stepping off himself and saying let her rip.
Error I think its Vaughan not Vaugnan 😮
Recognize 4 of 5 but not all this info. Commodore Perry Owens is the one I have not heard of.
The story of Hardin doing the "Roadhouse Spin" I am sure is made up by Hardin. Wild Bill would most certainly know that trick and didn't stay alive that long in those dangerous towns by being stupid. Later when Hardin was still in town, Hardin shot through a wall at his friend killing him. Hardin saw Wild Bill entering the Hotel and jumped out the window stating he knew Wild Bill would kill him. But it makes for a great story. I knew who all these people were.

Bill Hickock was old ..drunk..and half blind..so easy for a master like John Wesley Hardin...the snoring man story is all..b.s...and is attributed to other demonized outlaws as well..John Wesley Hardin was THE gunslinger..people would talk and when it came down to it..they didn't walk away..his autobiography is much less conceited ,arrogant and boastful than you'd think...he didn't need to glory find..or boost his ego..his record speaks for itself..those boyish stories are for scumbag sneak thieves like Billy The Kid..which for some reason everyone has turned into a hero..when he was trash and was known to shoot people in the back..fu by how b.s. narratives perpetuate 150 years later
