I'm from Finland and we do the exact same thing as Swedish with the pasta. Few years ago when I moved to Poland, putting ketchup on top of pizza was one of the weirdest things for me. I still don't do it, but nowdays I'm putting ketchup on top of my sandwiches.

Im Canadian people use ketchup on french frys, hot dogs, burgers, grilled cheese sandwiches, and the crazy people put it on steak, kraft dinner or popcorn lol I babysat children who would cut their pizza with scissors, i asked their parents and they do too lol🤷🏼‍♀️

This depends alot on where in Sweden you live and whether or not you're choosing to engage with your neighbours. Where I live, a few minutes outside of Värnamo, I'd say that most neighbours more or less engage with eachother. In Gävle however, I don't think I ever once got an "hi" back when I tried to engage with a neighbour.

Swedes being "introvert" by culture, and making sure no neighbors are outside your door when going out - we're the masters of social distancing.

Hahah, just kidding x). I have tried it with a fork and spoon and it works fine honestly. (Unless you want to eat spagetthi like a proper Italian and use your fork to spin the spagetthi around it.) Personally I don't have a real preference in regards to this, but I know that older people like my aunt and grandma are kinda particular about using a fork and knife for everything hahah. (They even scrape the sauce of the plate so it's always so clean compared to mine!) I asked them about it once, and they began trying to teach me how to do it too saying since - according to them - it's useful to know if, you know, SOMEHOW the king would come to visit and you need to use proper table manners :P

You do the ketchup thing at home or school at mediocre swedish pasta meals (like bolognese or meatballs) but at restaurants generally you don't get ketchup for pasta, unless you're a kid, who asks for it.

Ketchup kan man ha på NÄSTAN allt. Jag kan men vill helst inte äta pasta utan ketchup. Somliga kallar mig för en "ketchupoman" jag har ketchup på pasta, ägg (stekt, kokt, scrambled), på potatis (mos, stekt, kokt, pommes), chili con carne, pizza (vissa pizzor), hamburgare, korv, schnitzel osv... side-note: jag jobbar som kock :)

Nu när TV-avgiften är en gemensam skatt alla betalar är det ju ingen som kommer och kollar längre men det är inte så att kontrollanter åkte runt till alla hushåll i hela Sverige för att se om det fanns en TV. Bara de som inte stod med i registret som betalande blev kontrollerade och det första som hände var inte att en kontrollant kom på hembesök. Tror min ena storasyster är den enda jag känner som haft en kontrollant på besök och det var ändå några år sen. 2016 kanske?? Hon flyttade från en lägenhet med TV till en lägenhet utan så hon slutade betala och de tyckte väl det var suspekt ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Me too, and we knew all our neighbors and it wasn't uncommon at all, for the parents to invite some neighbor over for some fika, and borrow eachothers garden equipment and stuff. Avoiding neighbors is a city thing. I do it, I must admit. I say hi when I meet them, of course, but I'm not interested in having a relationship or bond with them.

The "TV tax" is actually not a tax, it's a TV fee (TV-avgift). But the government has recently decided to change it so it will become a TV tax instead and everyone over 18 years will pay it, which means they will not come to your home anymore and check if you have a TV. :)

Point of the TV fee being to keep the channels connected to it (channels 1 and 2) independent from the government to allow for impartial examining of, say, politics. Of course, the way I feel it, changing it to an actual tax partially sabotages this... but I'm just one person, so what can I do, really?

@@shieldphaser Well they screwed over the "impartial examining" a long time ago. Remember the woman crying when they counted votes for the US election and said "But... HHillary still have a chance right?". The only reason they changed it into taxes is because the "old media" is getting outdated and instead of doing a rework of the whole industry it's easier to just force everyone to pay for it. What's even worse is that they now have no reason whatsoever to be impartial of anything. Public service should be scrapped imo

The whole neighbour thing depends on where you live. I lived in Stockholm for a couple of years and I only talked to a few of my neighbours very briefly, not even sure who lived in most appartments. Moved to Örebro 8 years ago and had regular conversations with most of my neighbours (lived in an appartment building). Now I live 10 km outside of the city centre and I not only know all my neighbours and hang out with them on a regular basis I also talk allot with people from the area. Some of them go on trips and celebrate holidays together. We help out and look after eachothers kids and so on. I grew up in a small town and it felt like I knew everybody that lived there. Everytime I'm there for a visit I end up talking to old friends. Going to the local supermarket can take some time. So that "weird thing" is probably true for Stockholm (probably Göteborg and Malmö) but I'm not so sure for the rest of Sweden.

Swedes also have kids a bit later in life, men at 31,5 and 29 for women in Sweden compared to 30.9 for the US men and 26.4 for the US women. Sweden has low teenage pregnancy rates (7 births per 1,000 girls aged 15-19) compared to the US (26.6 births per 1,000 women aged 15-19).

Many swedes find it awkward to have eyecontact or just talk with their neighbors and/or random people on the street. Everyone grew up learning to be polite and kind of introvert, and now it has become natrual for them/us. I acctually don't really like that you have a hard time talking to people you meet since it can become very lonely but it's hard to break a pattern so you usually just go with the flow.

I am from French Polynesia and I live in France... I never felt at home in France, people laughed at me when I put ketchup on spaghettis, take cold showers, want to go camping, be patriotic, have a taste for adventure and respect for people... I was probably a Nordic people in a past life 🙂. You are amazing people. Thank you for making those videos, I love them

Having kids before marriage is because we are some of the most atheist people in the world. Most Swedes consider religion a thing of the past. Thus, you don't need marriage. If you decide to have kids and live with someone that's a decision you make without the need of marriage. The morals are still the same, but we just have a different perception on the whole marriage thing being somewhat of an unnecessary religious ritual. Regarding the TV-license; there is actually a motion to be voted for soon if this should be changed to a tax instead. The reason it hasn't been taxed before is because the funds are meant to pay for a media independent from the state. If this were a tax, it would mean the government could control the media, which is the whole point it is meant to avoid. The legislation to be voted for this fall, if it passes, will change this into a small tax instead which the government cannot touch. Most western European nations have similar systems for an independent media (BBC in the U.K. has the very same system of TV-licensing fees with random home visits).

No offense intended, but are you very old? Most of those who are actually religious in this country are older people. I'd say 80-90% are atheists, even if they are Christian/protestant by culture, so to speak. No, I'm not counting all the recent immigrants into this. "Most swedes are Christians," as you put it, may be true culturally, but in no way do "most swedes" believe in God. It is actually relatively uncommon, but isn't something that is generally touted due to respect for those that are actual believers.

In Nordic countries you don’t need a ton of money to start a family, so the order isn’t that important.

I started laughing a lot when you mentioned the ketchup on pasta, I'm Italian and I am pretty open to new things when it comes to food but the "I think it's disrespectful to the pasta" hit me 🤣

I actually laughed at the pasta because I've been married to an American for 5 years now and he still has to look away when I put ketchup on my pasta because it kind of freaks him out and grosses him out which I find pretty hilarious still. The TV tax is dumb. Once upon a time there was a commercial about it that if you dont pay you will get a snail on your eye and I can never forget that dumb ugly commercial that was so ridiculous. The food on the go culture has given me way more digestive issues, it is definitely not healthy to eat in a rush, even though it is convenient. The marriage and kids thing I have never reflected on but you are so right. My husband will ask "are they getting married?" "Will they get married?" And I never connected the dots that it was a cultural difference thing. Like no, they are just having a kid. He must feel like it is so backwards. One thing though that I find kind of insane with USA is the legal driving age of 16 since the human brain is not full grown until 25. Sweden has 18 and I still think it's almost too young but at least then the brain is a bit more equipped for such a responsibility so it's something I wish was different. It also took a while to get used to puppies in pet stores. *Ambi Cahira* Puppies and kittens in pet stores are so horrible! I am so glad we protect our pets more here. Ha ha, I remember that snail "commercial"! I was like 7-8 years old and should prove that I wasn´t scared of getting a snail on my eye. When the grown ups and other kids laughed, that trigged me to clown around even more so soon my whole face was covered in snails and my dad got the camera. The picture; me with snails all over my face, bent knees and doing the peace sign:-)

@@linnig4759 Jag ser valpar på djuraffären som är kuperade med nästan helt läkta öronsår redan vid 8 veckors ålder så vem vet när de togs från mamman, när de kuperades och allt sånt. De hålls i burar som är som en liten kub stor bara med väldigt lite kontakt med andra hundar, valpar eller folk om man jämför med hur många timmar som finns på en dag och hur mycket stimuli de behöver för utvecklingen. Och kampfiskarna i djuraffären lever i pyttesmå plastburkar dygnet runt tills de säljs med kanske 1-1.5 dl vatten eller nåt. Man kan extremt lätt få tag på gratis hästar vilket om man är van vid blocketpriser kändes hur konstigt som helst! Och det är lättare att köpa stackel som passar en liten hund eller valp än det är att köpa en bra klosax. Var väldigt mycket som fick mig att må dåligt i djuraffären i början tills man blivit lite avtrubbad eller vet vilka ställen man vill rata. Sverige kan vara ruskigt stolt över sin djurhållning!

*Ambi Cahira* Men herregud, det låter verkligen fruktansvärt! Inte konstigt att många verkar få problem med sina hundar i staterna, speciellt de som dessutom tror att en hund inte behöver rastas för att man har en pytteliten trädgård. Katters klor är tillåtna att opereras bort i Nordamerika (som enda kontinent i världen, vet inte om det var U.S som syftades eller Kanada inräknat) läste jag härom dagen iofs i en äldre bok om katter. Men jag förstår samtidigt att man måste bli lite avtrubbad för det går ju inte att få ont i själen och tankar om att mörda alla som säljer djur på det sättet, inte varje gång iaf. Men hemskt är det! Ha det så bra:-)

The point on using a fork and knife to eat everything reminds me of an episode on Seinfeld, where ‘cultured’ people eat their Mars bars with a fork and knife.

Seriously didn't know any of my neighbores names in the last apartment I lived, lived there for over two years and the silence was great. 5/5 would recommend

I legit had no idea pasta with ketchup was something weird to Americans. I've been doing that ever since I was a kid so I just kind of assumed it was an international thing that everyone did. I always find it exciting in some weird way to learn something I see as just natural is actually a Swedish thing. As for the knife and fork thing, I can't speak for others but personally I only eat stuff like pizza and chicken drumsticks and stuff with my knife and fork if I'm eating with other people, because I don't want to be gross and messy with the sauces and stuff. When I'm alone I eat them with my hands like a proper human being (though I do cut them with a fork and knife like you say). Eating hamburgers (with buns I mean, I'm assuming you do) with silverware is just weird though, I've never seen anyone do that. As you brought up the whole food to go thing, I realized that as for me, even when I do rarely buy stuff like a burger or a hot dog for a stand, I'll take it home or go sit down on a bench or something when I eat. So even when I'm eating on the go, I'm not actually eating on the go XD As for kids before marriage, let me put it this way: I was old enough to be a junior bridesmaid when my parents got married.

Smakat har jag men det är inget vidare. kanske för att min far var kock och inte använde sådana saker (tomatsås med rödvin och basilika var det som gällde till pastan) eller för att jag även var vegetarian i uppväxten och då fanns inga veg-korvar eller köttbullar, alltså inget som skulle smaka bra med ketchup, jag vet inte?

With falukorv (something like baloney, mostly served fried). Or as "poor young people food" (many such dinners 30-40 years ago 🤣), snabbmakaroner (Fast boiled makaroni), cheese and ketchup! 😂😂

In Sweden we often get married because of love and because we want a big party celebrating that love. Not because some old book says so or our parents force us. :P

In America if you aren't married you get financially dinged. For example, your work won't extend health insurance to a non married person. Taxes must be filed separately, which means you pay more. Loans for mortgages can even be turned down. This is one reason why gay couples want to marry, not just live together. Without the legal document of marriage you don't get the same financial benefits.

I would say that it is an old retarded tradition just like dop and konfirmation. People just do it without giving it a thought. It has it's perks tho but you can still get the same perks without a traditional wedding.

@@lenaduchannes2749 I generally agree, though as someone who grew up in Sweden, I cant help but get a craving for it when reading this comments section, even though ketchup on pasta was never really a thing in my family (my mother despised ketchup, considering the Swedish habit of dousing food with it to be low-class). I think I developed a bit more of a taste for it later, as a student in the US, often having no food in my apartment except for dry pasta, and leftover ketchup and mayo packets from fast food restaurants. Nevertheless, it is only too sweet if the person actually eating thinks it is.

A weird thing Americans do is that they say that they are like Swedish for example when they’re born in America. When I was in America and mentioned that I was Swedish, a lot off people were like. “omg me too! I’m also Swedish!” Even tho they were clearly born in the US. Like my dad Is born and raised in Norway and my mom in Swedish. But I was born in Sweden, so I won’t say that I’m Norwegian. I would just say that have family in Norway. Dose this make any sense?

Tilde Andersen I understand what you are saying, but your DNA would say otherwise. Most of us that had our ancestors move to the USA from Denmark, Norway or Sweden, are very proud of our Scandinavian roots, so we do say this often. It is technically not correct, but it is how we refer to our ancestors. We do not mean to offend.

As always it's very interesting hearing your perspective on our Swedish norms Stefan. It's easy to take things for granted when you're used to it everyday. Here's my response to your 5 weird things. 1. From my experience this is most common in apartment buildings, in the suburbs and on the countryside people tend to be more social and friendly towards their neighbours. 2. Most Swedes do this, but I think some other countries do it as well, just not as common. 3. It depends on the restaurant and occasion, generally we eat hamburgers with our hands and use knife and fork for pizza. Swedish "pizza" is also more similar to Italian pizza, with thinner crust compared to standard US pizza. If you order american pizza you get it pre sliced most of the time. 4. One of the reasons why marriage is not a huge deal in Sweden is because we are very progressive in terms of relationships. This also accounted to the fact that we´re one the least religious countries on earth. In many aspects we're far less traditional than americans. 5. Many people just ignore paying the fee, or lie about not having a TV. As many comments have already said, the rules for the tax will change soon.

+Stefan Thyron why on earth is ketchup on my pasta weird?! now you can't deny how convenient and tasteful it can be 😎. There's some interesting differences though, like peanut butter and jelly mixed in one jar. let's hope we won't see that in Swedish store's :)...

I'm surprised by ketchup on pasta being a weird thing, but no mention of lingon jam? All my UK friends think we're insane for having lingon jam with our meatballs.

think bearnaise might be more common in sweden than other countries, don't know about other countries or people, but i tend to put it on all sort of stuff except pasta. never really hear people mention it online though

@@davidbanan. charged yes taxed no. It was first in 2019 it became a tax. Before it was a fee that you only needed to pay if you had a tv in your household. And you paid that fee only once a year per houshold. Now it is tax that everyone pay no matter if you have a tv or not. And everyone that pays tax pay so if three People work and pay tax in one household all three pay

Aldrig ätit ravioli? Du har missat något. Sväng in på närmaste ica/coop/willys/hemköp och köp en burk (finns bland köttkonserverna oftast) (Det är stor variation mellan märkena) Det går att tillaga i mikrovågsugn (ha ett lock över tallriken, det stänker rejält annars) men blir mycket bättre i kastrull. Jag föredrar att ha keso till om jag inte äter det rakt av. För minestrone så plocka upp en varma koppen minestronesoppa, är utmärkt med vitt bröd (t.ex baugette) som ett enkelt mellanmål eller "är på landet över dagen och vill inte orsaka för mycket disk"-mat.

Greetings from Finland once again! Like i have commented on your videos before, all those things are just about same in Finland again. And yes we put ketchup on basic macaroni & spaghetti dishes. If the dish is something more of a "culinare" stuff, then we won´t use ketchup either. For knowing neighbours in compartment building ain´t common if you live in a rental apartment, but if you live in your own apartment and everybody else in the building too then it´s more normal to know your neighbours. That is basicly becous in rental apartments neighbourgs change alot, coming and going, but if everybody owns apartent most are going to live there years without moving so that makes sense. Yes we eat with knife and fork almost everything. I´ve seen people eating even tortillas with knife and fork (i don´t, it´s impossible, messy and dumb). But yes, i eat pizza with knife and fork also, at least in restaurants. It´s civilized way for eating food. Ofcourse if there are hot dog stand you can grab a one with you on the go and eat it on the way, but mostly eating is such a holy moment that most of people calm down and eat. People wants to enjoy what they are eating and also prevent from making a mess with the food or axidently drop the food on the grownd (that would piss off and make anyone sad). Like wise we don´t understand the rush to get married like in US. Most of early relationships are doomed anyway so why in the hell to get marry at young age?! It´s alot of bureaucracy when you have to divorce from someone. Much easier this way. It is very rare that young couples lasts more than 5-10 years together if even that long. But when we realy think she or he is the one for sure then we might marry that other companion. Advice to everyone: Don´t get married if you don´t have to.

I'm new to your channel, but regarding #2 - my great-grandparents came from Sweden. When my grandmother told her parents about what her Italian immigrant friends had for dinner, my gamla mor-mor tried to replicate it by pairing Campbell's tomato soup with pasta and hot dogs. It's been passed down the family and it's a comfort food for me now.

I lived about 20 years of my life in a place rated the worst place in Sweden several times over the years (yes, the vote for "worst municipality" is a real and very official thing).

Man, I had no idea how similar Brazilians and Swedes were! Aside from avoiding their neighbors, a lot of the things described in this video are behaviors that I've noticed a lot of Brazilians displaying. I honestly believe that most people from most countries and ethnical backgrounds are more similar than they are different.

That’s so weird because I lived in the US for a year as an au pair and my hostmom cut the pizza at home with scissors and I had never seen that anywhere before and thought it might be american 😂

Jag kan själv tycka att trots att det är fint att gifta sig så känns det lite gammaldags.

Tror att en hel del beror på egendomsdelningen vid skilsmässa som får många yngre att backa. Finns otaliga exmepel på skilsmässor där den ena parten har väsentligt mycket mer tillgångar än sin make och tvingas då överlämna delar av det i bodelningen. Många känner nog att "mitt är mitt" och både är överens om att så ska det vara (jämför med delad/gemensam ekonomi). Många äldre kör på gemensam ekonomi men jag vet inte en endaste i min egen ålder (25-30) som har det. Kan ju ha att göra med att det var vanligt förr att kvinnorna stannade hemma med barnen i flera år eller att de helt enkelt var hemmafruar.

Är det själva bröllopet du tycker är gammaldags? Min fru och jag ville vara gifta men var inte så sugna på att ha ett bröllop, så vi gjorde bara själva pappersarbetet och slutförde det hela på vårt lokala medborgarkontor. Tog nog inte mer än fem minuter från att vi klev in där ogifta till att vi gick ut igen som gifta. Hade inte ens med några egna vittnen, utan lånade så många som behövdes från deras personal. Det hela blev ändå minnesvärt; man kommer ihåg de få detaljer som var… Exempelvis att vi gifte oss när de flesta hade semester, och den som skulle sköta det hela inte riktigt var säker på hur det skulle gå till och inte vi heller, naturligtvis. Bäst av allt: Ingen svensexa, ingen möhippa och inga bröllopspresenter. Helt underbart!

@@Ca11mero Ja, man delar på alla tillgångarna när man skiljer sig. Däremot är det liknande regler om du är sambor. Om någon begär bodelning efter att samborna har gjort slut ska man dela bostaden och möblerna mellan dem ändå. Det är inte alla som vet om det så jag tänkte bara dela med mig av kunskapen :)

Up north where I grew up i k ew every name on all neighbours, even The grumpy " I hate kids" - once. We had barbeque during valborg/majbrasan and all kids in diffrent ages played together. And we share tools, husbands 😉 and drived eachothers kids to the bath, school, training and so on. If u are born and raised in The neighbourhood, as in sthlm or on countryside, you Will have that feeling of care taking and help among neighbours. But yes... Two Swedish meeting as strangers, needs a good icebreaker. But most Swedish People are good and helpful in need and if soeone dare to start The contact 😁😉🤔

IN Sweden, do you have to pay for cable TV? Or do you basically get all the channels anyway, as long as you pay your "tv tax"?

You really got it when it comes to the neighbor thing. I have a house in a middel class region and lived here for 23 years and don't know many of my neighbors. Just one, living next to me have visit my home and helping me alot. He's interesting in gardening and take care of my garden just like that and give me free, awesome stuff from his garden. I have a friend family living in a fairly welthy area south of New York and they was very surprised when they moved there. Many of the neighbors was visiting them from the beginning and welcom them. They got many friends from the beginning, they have parties together, etc. They also have a child born there, so she's an american citizen too. :) Whe one of their kids get serious sick her school stand up for her and later a large part of the society stood up for her, did collections etc. The neigbors was very helpful and helped the family in many, many ways.They even had a city race (stadslopp) with thousands av participants for the benefit of her. Tragically, she died after a long illness. (Brain Cancer) I don't think something like this will happen in Sweden.

Several of those issues are generalized throughout much of Europe. I've been in France twelve years and have enjoyed the differences. I certainly don't think of them as weird.

Actually, starting from 2019, everyone will be charged the TV tax automatically when you do your taxes each year. Also, if you make more money the fee is bigger.

The tax does not really increase by income. There is a top tax of 1300 sek per person and year and a max of 2600 per household. Only of you make less then 130 000 sek a year which is very little you will have a reduction of that tax. Personally I think it is crazy. Most people do not want the state owned "neutral" television or radio anymore but we have to pay for it.

''Why just not tax everybody'' 1 month later: We're gonna tax everybody.

This video had me crying from laughing so hard!! Being so used to it, I never realized how weird it is that someone comes to your house just to see if you have a tv 😂😂😂 now they’ve changed the policy so the “tv tax” is included in the regular tax and everyone pays it but man, I got so many phone calls asking me if I had a tv or not and it was never strange or odd to me 😂😂😂

Well in 2019 they WILL start taxing everyone for the TV. Also the neighbour thing really is a city/countryside thing. Everyone I know who grew up in the countryside were really friendly with the neighbours and had parties together regularly. My parents actually still go visit their old neighbours regularly even though they moved more than 10 years ago.

The tax for having a TV is used to fund Public service TV and radio. It will soon-ish become a regular tax, like an income tax so people don't have to be checked on anymore.

I don't know. But since the public service TV and radio can be accessed for free on the internet, probably. You need to look up the details if you're curious.

@Justsaying something that's such bullshit and sounds outdated, the government should change it. I don't watch public service channels for a reason, and i don't want to have to finance it. I can't believe they're going to force me to.

No some of these points are a bit wrong. Swedes are in fact very social when you live in the smaller towns. Like ridiculously so. There are some other points that are a bit innacurate too. It REALLY depends on where you live. Big city people tbh are an entire different species to suburbans 😂

It really depends. After my dad died I took over his half of the house-loans and moved in with my mom, our current neighbors are mostly fine but my mom has a kinda feud with one neighbor she and my dad never got along with (they built gutters on our garage next to their property without even asking us, the strip of land the water poured onto isn't even theirs, this ticked my parents off and they don't even greet each other). One of our other neighbors had to move from their last house because their neighbors hated them and would do all kinds of shit to fuck with them, move their garbage bins down the road and block their driveway etc., all because they had bought a property and built a house there, most likely obstructing the other neighbors view of desolate nothingness. People tend to have reservations when it comes to out of towners because they lack connections to the area. They also might not pay municipal taxes since they already do that in their Stockholm (or wherever their primary residence is) home, basicly contributing nothing to the local municipality while still acting like they own the place.

Well if you live in the countryside there is another problem. If you want to talk to your neighbours(i cant spell) you have to use morse code with a carhorn or some shit.

I feel like it’s an apartment-thing. Not sure just how I feel from my own experience, living in a house you do get to know you surroundings and all but in an apartment it’s less interacting with the neighbours, however in my apartmentbuilding (I live in Stockholm) everyone says hi and all, not more then that but yeah, also one of my neighbours accedentaly got my package-notification, went to the postoffice, picked it up and then realized it wasn’t for her so she actually came and delivered it to my front door, very nice and friendly I would say, for being a neighbours in Sweden/Stockholm anyway.

Well, I'm an American and I also live in the Midwest. I live in an apartment complex and I don't know any of my neighbors. At the most people just say hi in passing, no one introduces themselves to anybody or attempts to befriend them. Even in the fitness room, people who aren't together don't talk to each other. I do, however, make eye contact when we pass. I don't always say hi, sometimes I just smile and nod at them, but I almost always acknowledge them. There's just no attempt to form a relationship.

Swedish person here. I appreciate that you didn't make any jokes about Swedish cultural things. Sometimes people do that and it's just not fun to watch that kind of content. Anyways, I sent this video to one of my American friends who is planning on moving to Sweden in the near future, primarily because of the way you're presenting these cultural differences and because these are real things that people do. So yeah, good video. Kudos to you!

Zaliz X. I agree. I’m not even Swedish but I saw another video where an American guy talks about stuff that he doesn’t like/is different about Sweden and it just came across as rude and ignorant. This video is so much better!

The TV tax is already heavily criticised here in Norway as well (think we got the same thing basically). I don't watch regular TV though, only things like Netflix, so I managed to avoid that tax by paying some people to remove the part of my TV that allowed for recieving TV channels. Instead I used it as a second big screen connected to my PC via HTMI.

I’m dutch and I recently moved to Sweden five months ago and I can relate to most of what you just said! (Except nr. 4, I think we are the same in the Netherlands)

We built our house on a hill just above a neighberhood just to avoid neighbors. You can say i am a elite swede!

They are in the process of passing a law that makes the tax for TVs unnecessary, they will tax every single household for basically public television and radio that's what the tax is for. And then you tax will be a bit cheaper as well

Robin, for single adult households will be cheaper but for a family it will be higher. The outgoing fee is 2400:- a year per household, the new tax is 1% of your taxable income with a sealing of 1307:- a year, and that applies to every adult with a taxable income in Sweden above 18 years old. A family will most likely pay more than before...

So, is it specifically ketchup on pasta you find weird? As opposed to other sauces based on or infused with tomatoes that they use on pasta the world over, including Italy.

Is the tv tax the same as a tv licence innthe u.k.? mIn the u.k., in order to watch a live broadcast, the the tv licence has to be paid.

The TV tax will be included in the regular taxes from 2019! ;)

Also about the TV tax. In the Nordic countries we have what is called "national TV/Radio stations". Usually managed or run by the government of each country. Here in Iceland for example, everyone over 18 has to pay around 130usd every year in "TV/Radio tax" regardless of having a TV or not.

Like the ceramici heater or hot water heater in the background.
