    One of the best piecing/quilting videos I have seen, and I have seen them all! I have to keep watching it as I am a new and not very adventurous quilter, but I am making progress.

    I was watching a new person to crumb quilting the other day. It was lovely to hear her say your name and said your the queen of crumb quilting,, people should definitely watch your channel. I thought how nice that was.

    Yes, definitely the Crumb Queen. I can’t find my four inch squared off blocks I made 12 months ago. Guess I’ll have to make some more.

    I like how clearly you explain step-by-step what you are sewing and why, also bringing in alternate ways of getting similar results. Darlene, you should be "teaching" your quilting knowledge at schools!!

    Darlene, I’ve been following you for sometime and I have to say I always enjoy your creative quilting. You say everything in easy to understand terms and you don’t get wrapped up in perfection! I’m the same way & have been making crumb & strip projects for years. It is very real addicting but very relaxing too. I just want you to know I think you’re the queen of crumb/strip quilts. I appreciate all you do. Stay well and I will be following you as always.🥰

    This is remarkably informative! I am a newer quilter, and need courage to do this. Also, Darlene did not assume too much knowledge on my p[art, which was welcome. Her detailed narrative really helped.

    I just started my first crumb quilt for a wedding gift for my best friend 💝 I was using a combination of method 1 and 2 but now I've got 3 more to incorporate and really shake things up! Instant subscribe seeing the "Queen of crumb quilting" comment lol Where are you from, Darlene? I recognize the New England accent, but can't pinpoint a state 😂 hey from northern Maine 👋💝

    One strategy I noticed that I really like is to make two similarly sized sets of strips and put them right sides together, then sew sets of two lines of stitching about a quarter inch apart, then leave a 2 inch gap and sew another set of 2 lines of stitching. Carefully cut between your pairs of lines, then cut in the middle of the wider gap. I set up 3 or 4 of these and chain sew.

    Do you make a crumb block using a 5 sided center to begin? The first crumb block I made started with a 5 sided block and I like that pattern and have tried to steer friends to that video and have been unable to find it.

    I started my first crumb blocks yesterday. Although I was happy with the process, I didn't like the result. I think, watching this, my mistake was using pieces that were too varied in size. I mixed big and small, I should have kept it to one or the other. I will try again with more of a strategy this time. Thanks.

  • @darlene.michaud

    @darlene.michaud

    There is no strategy for crumb blocks. Varied sizes are awesome! There are no such things as mistakes. And don’t judge on your very first block. You said you were happy with the process, so just keep doing it for the sake of the process. Doesn’t matter how they turn out because they are all perfect.

    I just don't understand the concept of cutting the scraps up smaller and smaller. It creates more seams and less actual inches of fabric exposed. Would have liked to see a finished block using this sew and cut technique. I try to keep my crumb cutting to a minimum
