You can get a mini platform for your oneway set up. Then you could sharpen your old craftsman skew chisel or any of the older craftsman lathe tools with the shorter steel.

This is the number 1 biggest problem I have is sharpening. I can sharpen knives that you could use for surgery, but the angle grinder I have and use needs to be updated. You definately gave me a couple options I never thought about before. (Hat tip to you sir) I think time and experience are essential to becoming better at wood turning. I also think trying to buy tools and equipment and stay married is also another essential tip. Lol.

I finally reached a point where I didn’t spend thousands per year on tools! I also find that I get out of practice in my turning. I go months without turning and get rusty. Then I turn several times in a few weeks and I can notice my muscle memory and technique improving tremendously. Take a few months off and I’m back to rusty and average turner at best. Now I need to try out some different skew angles to see if I like different ones better lol

@@woodworkingmcdanielstyle I’ve always enjoyed using skews, not that I’m great at it , but enjoy the slicing and fine detail you can achieve. Where I have become stagnant is bowl gouges. Since I’ve never really perfected sharpening without using diamond cards, so instead I’ve relied way more on carbide tools. I learned how to resharpen them with diamond sharpeners and some lubricant. I really need to use my bowl gouges more than I do.

@k9insomniac783 I’m the opposite lol. I am really good with gouges and need to gain skew skill. Did you watch my bowl gouge sharpening videos? It’s not that difficult with the varigrind jig. Also the 40 40 grind video shows another option that only requires a platform to sharpen.

@@woodworkingmcdanielstyle I’m gonna sound like a dork here, but I’ve been sort of binge watching most of your videos. I did watch your sharpening video, I’m pretty sure anyways. I’ll look back to verify that lol. My downside is I have t bought a sharpening jig yet. I was going to attempt to make my own using an idea Capt Eddie Castilin showed. I’m gonna look into that big you had mentioned though. Man, with all this advice and help you’ve given me, I’m gonna have to upgrade you from content creator to friend ! lol

@k9insomniac783 lol yeah captain Eddie basically created a cheap jig that does what the varigrind jig does. Thanks for watching the videos! I’m glad you are finding them helpful.
