Hey guys,
Today I’m talking about 5 ways that you can sell your own products in shops. I’ve been self-employed for over 6 years now and have been selling my work in shops over most of that time too. I’ve tried and tested all the way’s that I mention in this video and give you my thoughts, good and bad, on each one. This is useful information whether you are at the beginning of your creative journey or part way through and hopefully it helps to clarify which ways would be best for you and your products.
This is a long one but stick with it as there may be some funny bloopers at the end!

    Hello from Alabama. Good advice! I'm 59. I have been selling large yard art for several decades but finding it more and more physically challenging. I am trying to figure out how to convert my patterns to other products that are not so labor intensive. You are a inspiration and a joy to watch.

    Thank-you for all the great info!! It's hard to find videos like this from other makers, lots of videos on markets but selling in stores is a bit different. I hope you'll do more like this :)

    This video is ‘getting real’ about feedback on our artwork feedback and selling opportunities, and a bunch of points in-between. All are good points for artists to absorb. Thanks so much for creating this video. Great information!

    Technically I am a flute teacher, but it is almost time to close up the studio as I am burning out on teaching lessons. So I have been learning watercolor art and repeat surface design for the last 3 years. I am working to transition to a business that combines my music and art. A friend sent me to your videos on removing backgrounds from traditional art, so that is how I found your channel. Thank you so much for your content. It has been helpful and you have a lovely and encouraging voice to listen to!@@thebutterflytoadstool

    Good job explaining about the selling of your products. I found it very interesting. Customers (me) just take these things for granted. Sounds daunting to me. Also enjoyed the outtakes.😅. See ya next time Dee. 👍🤗💕💕

    What about getting the shops as customers. What methods have you found to be the most effective for meeting shop owners and bringing them on board to stock your products? Thanks!

    Thank you, I found this very informative. And pretty comprehensive...but I have a wee question I'm hoping you can speak to. And it's not #upbeat :) I have no experience selling (it's just a hobby at this point) but I have wondered what happens if an item for sale in a shop (shelf rental, e.g.) gets stolen, in shop. What should we makers know about? Or does it go without saying that there's always some kind of insurance clause in any and every contract one signs with shop owner? Just something I have wondered about. Theft happens, alas.

  • @thebutterflytoadstool

    @thebutterflytoadstool

    Hello, thank you so much for watching and for your great question! Yes, unfortunately theft does happen (it's happened to me also)! Each shop will have their own rules on this which should be in the contract you are asked to read over and sign before you start business with them. If it is not written in by the shop owner then you are completely within your rights to ask them about it and you can also choose not to work with a shop if they don't provide you with reassurances about this. This is exactly why getting a contract is so important before you start working with a shop as it should outline all these important factors so you know where you stand with them. Thanks again and best of luck to you going forward with your selling 💕

    Great information, thank you. I’m actually contemplating going down the Pop-up Shop and Wholesale route currently. I was going to try earlier this year, but we’ve had a few family issues so the timing wasn’t right. You have given me lots of food for thought. Also I have been selling online since 2010, this year has been my worst for sales, but I have done a few in person markets, where the sales have been much better, so I’m booking more for 2024 x

    Thank you very much for a very insightful video and great advice! When you say 'wholesale', what volumes are you talking about (e.g. dozens, hundreds, thousands)? And are you at liberty to share what sort of timelines for order fulfilment wholesalers set (days, weeks)?

  • @thebutterflytoadstool

    @thebutterflytoadstool

    5 ай бұрын

    As a wholesaler you set your volume quantities, order minimums and timeline for production. Buyers will have this information from you before they place an order so they know what to expect 😊

    Hi, Thank you for sharing your tips and advice. I am an artist looking to start selling prints and interested in markets, however the amount of stock needed is a concern for me. approximately how much stock would you require for a small stall? thank you.

  • @thebutterflytoadstool

    @thebutterflytoadstool

    2 ай бұрын

    It really depends on what items you are selling and what kind of market you attend. Smaller markets, like those held in schools or town halls will have a low footfall and smaller space given to each stall holder. Have a look at the kind of stalls that are held in your area and visit them as a visitor first to get an idea of the size of space you would be given. Here in the UK it is normal to be given a 6ft table as your stall space but it's wise to check first before signing up to a stall.
