5 Ways To NOT Let Your Plants Boss You!
Years ago, I wrote out a garden manifesto, and one of the elements of it states: don’t let your plants, boss you! Don’t let them get overgrown, buggy, thuggish, poorly defined, or dead lol. In other words, intervene, and don’t let them get the upper hand! #gardenobsessed #gardeningtools #workinginthegarden #summergardening

When getting back from a trip, I immediately jump out of the car and start watering, pruning and weeding even before going in the house and changing clothes.

I get out weeding too! And survey the damage as I do!

My husband used to say he knew when I got home from work because he would hear the water go on before I opened the garage door!
I saw another KZreadr who said she puts those little red landscape flags in all the pots she wants watered. Brilliant! I regularly go out of town and this will be so much easier for my house sitter next time.
So glad to hear more from Stewart.
Love it-I take one section at a time and “deep clean” 😂 (weed, prune, dead-head, water) until it’s perfect…then move on to the next section. Love your channel - such an inspiration.
Fellow gardeners , when it's time to enjoy the garden, it's so hard not to do garden editing. ❤❤❤ love it.
Linda, I’ve been watching your KZread channel for years, and I seriously love every post. I am well aware that your sponsor is Southern Living plants. That being said, I’m wondering if you, Leah and Stewart could possibly do a deep dive into “on line” plant ordering? I live in a remote area of the country, Western Ky., we have big box nurseries and many, many road side flower gardens with staggering limited inventory. I find myself completely confused and anxious when purchasing on line.., is the company reliable, what is a quart size, a no. 1 a no.2? What is a 1 yr. plant vs. a 3 yr. plant.? How should a plant arrive, how does one decide to send a plant back? I do appreciate your recommendations, Southern Living plants and Color Blend are very reliable and I have ordered from them but it’s crazy out there and I have been burned on many occasions for buying plants on line without knowing what I am doing. Just a thought, there maybe many viewers in my same situation.
Always enjoy your Wednesday walkabouts! Welcome back, Linda!
It’s great to have you back. Hope you are all rested up. I had always heard not to fertilize that type of succulent. Let us know how it reacts to the Miracle Grow. Thanks. Can’t wait to hear about your trip.
Like the last subscriber... I start watering the minute my feet hit the ground!... I can wait til the next day or morning to access any damage... No one takes care of our gardens like us. We know... just like our children... whos hungry.. who needs to be fed.. who needs a drink . I am just grateful a neighbor does do her best to help when I am gone. But each vacation has a least one or two casualties. Such is the life of a summer garden.
I agree! Let the chips or thyme fall where they may. Another opportunity to start another lovely plant. Tomorrow I pick up a Chinese dogwood!!
Thyme was perfect for that pot. Hopefully you will do it again someday.
I love all your white blooms! 🤩 Looks fresh, clean, and cooling.
Thanks for all the awesome tips Linda!
Just seeing the shape the garden is in after getting back is usually all I need to get back into it.
You're blessed to have such special people to 'babysit' your garden. It's all looking lovely. Thank you for sharing.
My trip was and is loss of hubby has made me brain drained.😊 huggicates welcome home😊!
How about putting a red gate at the base of those steps on the east side since it is not used that often. I can visualize a gate there!
I do a walk about as soon as i get home to pull, tuck, water etc.
I cut hard before I left for vacation, and returned to blooms. Yes, lost some plants that I was babying, but probably would have lost even if I was here since the heat has showed up in earnest. I do not even look at my garden the day I return, but the next morning I began weeding. Let’s face it, here in the south, our gardens are on survival mode until fall anyways. I do have drip on everything so that gives me some peace of mind, but this last trip, a freak storm knocked out one of my outdoor spigots and caused a water leak. Thankfully, because I also have people checking on things when I am gone, it was caught early and fixed. I loved escaping the heat for a few weeks!
🪴YOU LOOK SO CUTE‼️🌳
In general, I let my groove come back naturally. I don’t really set a timeline rather I just allow myself the time I need to readjust. My garden will understand 😅
This video is VERY much Appreciated!❤ One of your best ones IMHO because it’s so practical and applies to everyone everywhere! FYI, I’m in Los Altos, CA (south of San Francisco, north of San Jose)🎉
HI Linda ! I look forward to hearing about your vacation !! thanks for the great tips! What size is your front window box, or if someone else knows please share ?? I know you had it made to fit the spot !! thanks so much Paula in Indiana
Oh my! That creeping thyme was rather crunchy!
Thx for the great advice Linda!!
Hi Linda. So glad you had a wonderful trip. Glad you are back. I have been meaning to ask you what the name of that delightful, happy tune is you use to open your video with and to cut from one segment to the other. I just love it. When I am feeling down, it perks me up. Thank you so much. Love you and your team.
We are so hot and humid that i have only gone out to refill the birdbath and make sure nothing is eilted. 15 degrees cooler early this morning so um cutting back and deadheading. I feel so much better!
Got heavy wind today from the hurricane .Boke one of my huge Dahlia. 😭 Water, prune and pick.
Hi, Linda. Thank you for your video. ❤
Unique Stone has many beautiful lifelong lasting containers in all sizes. Thank you Linda for the magnolia training lesson.
Great video. Very informative. Heat and lack of rain where I live in the south has taken a toll on my flowers and vegetable garden.
Love your outfits! Top is fitting! What size are you wearing!
Great video, lovely to have you back. Hope you enjoyed your holiday.
From watching Linda, I learned to take out or cut back the thugs. And realize, I can trim, prune, take out and replant its summer the season is not over yet...this year I started seeds again at end of June right in the sun making sure daily the starting pots are in trays of deep water. They will be ready to plant out soon. I starting using gravel it does work holds moisture and looks neat suppresses weeds. Walmart have bags of it for about $5..
Happy that you are back… Please, will you show us your whole garden (more) in it’s beauty ? Thank you.
Thanks for sharing
Good info !
I will be tackling my side yard tomorrow! Have not been able to tend to it for 2 weeks!
I really have learned a lot about different kinds of plants through you and love it. I catch myself looking at some plants and thinking while they work in our area. I know there’s different zones in different areas of the United States. Have you done a video on how certain plants will work better and other areas than your area, hope that makes sense. Sending, love, prayers and kindness with a daily dose of encouragement.♥️👍🏼🌹🇺🇸🙏🏼
I am so glad that had a great time. I really wanted to go on that trip with my hubs but he is going thru cancer treatment so $ is an issue. Can't wait to hear about your trip!!!! BTW, I have always saved my big black plant containers since the first time you mentioned keeping them. I also top dress all my pots with Gravel to deter those pesky squirrels and I have a ton of them (I live on a rural wooded acreage). They run the world here 😂.
I ordered the White Wedding Hydrangeas this year, but they are starting to burn in this heat. What is your favorite boxwood for containers? I bought two different “Better Boxwoods”, and I put them in pots . I’m anxious to see if they will survive the winter in the pots.
Where can I find your manifesto? You were in Scotland for 2 weeks where did the time go..can’t wait to see pictures/stories of you tour of gardens. I haven’t taken a vacation in years. Love the show today everything looks good. Hope you have taken it slowly. I love that pot with the succulent in it looks good. 👍
We are in the same zone. And I inherited 5 over grown 4 foot tall boxwoods, I want to cut them back hard to about 2 feet tall. When would be the best time to do so?
I just got back from Florida. Even though I had someone water I lost a heuchera. No biggie!
I can't leave because no one takes care of the garden like I do. My hubby would let it die. LOL.
I often trim plants n pick flowers too. You look nice ith the clothes it seems that you have put on some kilos in your top half since last video before you went away the food must have been good over there did you see many nice gardens while there/
I'm leaving Monday for a week BUT I don't have anyone to water. My front yard is very similar to yours and live in hot Arkansas

For a short term fix, put a sprinkler on a timer and make sure to time it in the early cool morning hours. When you get back, look into drip irrigation.
lol. Stuart please lower the volume on your mic!!! talking over Linda!
Great Halloween container had u left the thyme
Linda, you need more stepping stones, as that step almost threw you. In addition, you need kneeling pads.
Great info, but you Mic was in & out. Stewart's mic was much louder. At times, his comments & constant laughing interfered with your message. Today was especially ignoring.
Your microphone isn't working? 🎤👂🎤👂🎤👂
Yes I just gave my 8ft Mahonia Charity an aggressive pruning 🫨 always something to be done in the garden.
I saw another KZreadr who said she puts those little red landscape flags in all the pots she wants watered. Brilliant! I regularly go out of town and this will be so much easier for my house sitter next time.
