Hi everyone! I hope this topic resonates with you. It's been on my mind for a long time. I think it's important for us to have these conversations and to bring awareness to how and why we eat the way we do, especially if there is fear or guilt involved. If you feel comfortable sharing a snippet of your story with your relationship with food, feel free to in the comments. HUGS xoxo

Thank you Meghan! I appreciate this topic so much! This year I had a hypoglycemia event and Colitis. These two events scared me beyond my wildest dreams. I never felt like that in my life. I shock violently as my blood sugar was dropping. After I got back to eating "normally". I would check my blood sugar non stop, eat big meals every three hours, if I thought I was shaking I'd eat candy or any sugary dessert. It was a feeling I never want to experience again! Unfortunately, I am now diagnosed being over weight. My Doctor said, to eat twice a day on a low carb diet with one additional meal replacement shake. I don't. Because I don't want to diet. I want to heal my body and my mind set with my relationship with food. Thank you for the support!

Hi Megan, I am struggling here with food because I am trying to get rid of candida, fungus crytococcus and leaky gut. I get tempted with foods that I should be avoiding longer time to get better. Plus my tummy gets too bloated and have small sliding hernia in the esophagus. I have esophaghitis so too hard to get better. I love your videos thank you so much 💓 💗 Kind regards, Cynthia

I‘m a nutrition scientist and the first thing I‘ve learned is that the dose makes the poison. There ist no good or bad food, it‘s just important how much you eat and in what variety!

I first read this book almost 20 years ago and it changed completely my mindset around food. I have never followed a diet since then and never ever had any weight concerns. It does work exactly as it says: allowing yourself to eat when you want and what you want makes you realize that you are actually unable to eat an entire piece of chocolate cake and even that you don’t want that chocolate cake at all.

I feel that I have an unhealthy relationship with food bc I'm trying to have a good exercise and diet routine. But bc I want to gain healthy weight and still have a good physique, Ive had an up and down relationship with food. Its been super hard. Now I'm just trying to exercise and eat in moderation/intuitively eat and not worry about appearance, but see what "healthy" means for me and my body and mind. This was a very helpful video!

This so resonates with me. I have struggled with binge eating disorder for the past several years, and what triggers the binge episodes is either skipping meals or feeling like I “can’t” have a certain food because “it will make me even more fat.” Since nothing else was working to stop the binging, over the past few months I have tried not restricting myself at all. Anything goes. And the binging has actually significantly reduced. I know I still have more healing to do, but it’s been so good to be on friendlier terms with food.

Thank you so much for this insightful video, Meghan. ❤ I love how you pointed out that healing our relationship with food is not linear. There are bad days and good days for all of us. It helps me not to feel bad or guilty when there are days that I just can't get myself together to make a decent meal. I feel uplifted and inspired to do my best to achieve a healthy lifestyle.

Good and helpful info, thank you. Sometimes I feel obsessed. I’m working on letting go of the “food rules” that I learned so long ago. I love the whole Intuitive Eating thing. Sometimes I eat things that I know my body doesn’t like, then I don’t feel so well and/or I get upset with myself for doing something I know isn’t good for my body. Something I need to figure out how to stop doing. Thank you again.

I think i am where you were years ago and I’m struggling with figuring out what works for me. And I have also mentally made a connection between feeling sick and eating, so if I don’t feel well mentally, i don’t want to eat. I’m currently working on this issue and this video helped. Thank you! I have struggled with IBS symptoms for 10 years. They have slowly gotten worse and in this last year I got to the point where I was afraid to eat anything. I am actor which also means that I deal with high stress (which doesn’t help). Currently I’ve started the AIP diet hoping that it can help my symptoms and help me feel normal. It’s frustrating when I am afraid of food and sometimes even afraid to leave my house because I’m worried about what will happen. This video was very encouraging!

Thanks for being so motivating and helpful! Each one of your videos is so unique and wonderful! I am a 15 year old runner and soccer player and really struggled with my food relationship. I feared each and everything I ate would have a massive impact on my performance and this triggered bad eating habits. I wouldn't fuel my body enough for the level of activity i was doing each day. Recently, my mom actually signed me up for appointments with a nutritionist. This helped me so much, and I am slowly working my way out of this mindset. Now, I still catch myself going back into the place I was before, but I have to remind myself that i can enjoy treats and "unhealthier" options too because i enjoy them or because I want to. They will not actually have a major impact on my performance... especially when I eat these treats in moderation! Don't ever be afraid to reach out for help, and remember that you are allowed to enjoy yummy foods!!!

Thank you for this video. I have a complicated relationship with food and I'm not quite sure where it originates from. I am a naturally small person and have always had a very fast metabolism, so I have almost always just eaten exactly what I want. That means I constantly crave and eat junk food, but I do get full pretty quickly so I don't tend to overeat in one sitting. I have always been intimidated by cooking and making good food choices for some reason, and have an "all or nothing" attitude about a lot of things, including food. If I can't "always" eat well, then why bother? I feel like I have never learned how to truly enjoy food because my brain just wants the short boost of happiness I get from eating something sweet or salty. I'm currently on a diet that is focusing on fresh, whole foods and is free of things that trigger a bladder condition I have, so it's a good first step towards unlearning some of the bad beliefs I have about food. But it is really hard work and sometimes I just wish I never had to think about or prepare food! Hopefully I will learn to enjoy the process of preparing food and appreciate the privilege I have to be able to make better choices.

On the note of honoring our hunger, over eating is quite common and many people are confused about their hunger cues. Stress eating, eating out of boredom, or overeating are quite common. Making sure we get our daily nutrients (maybe a daily green juice) will help with cravings and help you feel satisfied and energized

Thank you Meghan for your video! I’m overweight and I know it’s because I eat too much sugar (chocolate or cake). In fact, when I’m hungry and it’s not « lunchtime » I feel like I have to wait until lunchtime to eat proper food. But because I’m hungry I’m eating bad, non nutritious food to help me to wait. It’s an horrible feeling and it’s very hard to change bad habits (especially with 2 babies)... I will try to trust my body more and give him real food when he need it ^^

I've been struggling with food issues for nearly two decades due to illness and i've got to the point where food is just fuel, I have no real emotions about it anymore. I eat because I know I have to, not because I want to. There are foods I do and don't like, and I in no way restrict my eating, (in fact i've managed to recently put on 14lbs which i'm really happy with!) but I just don't enjoy it like others seem to. Eating out at a restaurant seems like wasted money to me, I don't see it as an occasion. BUT, I don't care. It saves me money, i'm actually the healthiest i've ever been and I like that I can take the time i used to spend thinking about food and use it to do other things (like getting back to being a piano teacher!) Honestly, if they made a pill with all your daily food and nutrition in it i'd definitely just take that 😂 x

What I want: I wish I could be excited about food and look forward to my meals every day. I want to enjoy eating! Where I am: I feel like I often eat the same foods, and even when I don't, my food just feels extremely boring and repetitive to me. It's like I already know the food and how it tastes, so I'm not interested in it since it'll be the same thing. But I really wish I could celebrate food every day! The only times where I love eating is when I'm at the restaurant, because there are so many new foods, flavors, and experiences!! How can I be excited about eating alone at home?

I have been overweight for 19 years. With each new diet I learned to forbid myself certain foods. I ended up avoiding everything (pasta, legumes, potatoes, bananas, bread, sugar, olives, oil, nuts, seeds...name it). The weight kept piling on no matter what and I didn’t even know what to eat. Now I eat everything. My weight doesn’t decrease (it never does no matter what) but it doesn’t add, and I get to have a healthy diet, normal, homemade and regular.

I think a good conversation would be about how and what our culture even calls 'food'. I feel there are so many 'chemical concoctions' that our society/ culture calls 'food' but by definition it is not. Also, have you already done a video about how you 'got over' your IBS? I have seen the videos about the basics on gut health. Did you 'improve it' on your own with elimination diet or did you get 'profession' help like a ND or functional medicine doctor or something else? If so, who or what was it that helped/ worked? Do you have a video about the key things you did to heal?

Popular food rule: "a lot of fibres is great!" Well that doesn't work for me I have big stomach pains when I eat higher fibre foods like cruciferous, whole grains, raw vegs.... 😕

I’ve actually been struggling with eating lately. I’m already a pretty petite person and don’t need to loose any weight but I have been dropping some. I have this mindset that sometimes stops me from eating and here is what happens. I think about the taste too much and always think I’m not going to like this. Then my brain try’s to pin point a nasty taste to that item. I also get full pretty easily so I get tired of the taste of something quickly. I’ve been trying to put technology down while eating and just try to relax and not overthink it. I work in retail so I’m always go go go and sometimes I get so overly hungry that I just can’t eat.. anyone else have that problem?

Kaitlyn Cinnamon I have the opposite problem where I feel hungry often but then I’m scared to eat because it’s hard to stop. Very frustrated feeling I’ve tried so many things and have gone up and down in weight the past 35 years. Wonder why I can’t find something to work for me. I’m hard on my self because I feel like I can be better.

I hate having to eat. The only reason I do it is so I don't get dizzy from my meds. And also I take supplements which need me to eat while taking them. I don't like to cook. But I do like when a food has multiple tastes. Like pepperoni, garam masala. Indian foods, Asian foods. I have cookbooks to do these things, but I hate spending time in the kitchen. 😞

I am actually going thru this now. I recently went vegan but I still feel unhealthy. I believe it is because alot of the substitutes for meat, eggs, cheese etc are processed and may be worse than the actual product. I don't have time to make some of the substitute products from scratch or the money-ingredients can be really expensive. I also have MADD cravings for animal products and feel restricted as you mentioned; sooooo, I'm very unhappy/frustrated with my diet. Your tips have been really helpful though and I will put them to practice and see how it goes.😞

Hi Kathleen! I can see how frustrating that would be. You make a lot of valid points! And it's true that many mock-meats, etc. are much more processed than the real thing. I'm glad you found these tips helpful and I hope they help you find some balance!

Wow! 6 ads playing within just the first 6 minutes of video alone really disrupts the entire flow of the points being made. This video was simply fraught with ads when I watched it... maybe it's different for other viewers... but I lost my train of thought and just couldn't finish it. This particular video installation was too painful to watch even though I think the points trying to be made by Meghan may have been useful. Hopefully, its just this one video.

@@teresan.3694 Glad to hear that. I'd hate to see her channel saturated with ads. I hope my experience was unique to the KZread algorithm. Maybe I'll try and watch it again later. Thanks for you feedback!

Oh no! That is SO annoying, I'm sorry you saw so many ads. I don't choose how many appear, but I'll see if I can adjust some settings. I think KZread made some changes to the way they show ads, I'm not entirely sure. Again, sorry about that.
