O man what a rats nest if the drag is loose i did that before i will never forget the problems i ended up with. So listen everyone dont moer the rod and make sure the drag is lekker vas or els you will cry boet! Great video !!!

Would braid go further than 5lb mono with 18lb leader... again this vid really helped me get the ball in further 🙏

I think, you are releasing the line with your finger too early (referring to 1 o’clock position). When keeping the finger closed for longer, then road can start to unload and transfer the load to the lead which thus gets even faster leading to further casts.

it will take practice but you trying to release the line so that the led/rig is released and travels in a 45 degree angle. (horizontal is 0 degrees)

Really impressed with your videos and quality .... I've watched this over a year ago and again now ... watching it the second time I can see how I cast almost exactly as you do after watching it the fist time till now my casting has really improved and all thanks to you ... I've mostly used papgoi (no idea how to spell in Afrikaans) but I've recently been getting into specimen... I find that the rigs are so much better quality and you don't loose as many the baits are easier and less messy altho can you catch in all inland waters here in sa with specimen some people say specimen doesn't work in certain dams? Also do you do any river fishing is so what rigs and bait do you suggest for that

To be blunt and honest. These wychwood reels are good and they do the job well. But if you want the best, save up a bit more and buy Shimano. In my personal set up I have three Shimano LCs (the older models) and they are absolutely fantastic. They work now like they did when I first bought them 4 years ago , smooth, strong and the cast a mile. That's my 2c anyway

@@ItsTippToppFishing Thanks for the info. Im 14 and am going to start out carp fishing so I need a reel that is not too expensive and performs well. I can't spend huge amounts of money so I have been looking for reels around the £70 mark that will be able to cast to 100yrds, as once I kit myself out with some carp gear im planning to fish a big ish water quite close to me, that may need big casts. I was thinking about the lower end shimanos such as the arelex xtb 10000, and other daiwa reels, and Sonik. But these do look good and by your videos seem to be able to cast a long way! Do you think these would be good or should I go with the lower end diawa or shimano reels?

@@theohastings2118 if repeatedly casting against a clip the wychwood reels are terrible. I had 2 of the clips literally snap off of the spool, that’s the only problem with them

First of all, never in your dreams do you ever cast 170 m the way that you do. Your advice is very good for people who fish alongside many other people, you won’t get your lines tangled that way and you won’t hit any other rod but for actual long casting you still have a lot to learn. The methods that you so eloquently put down, are so much better than yours. Good video, rubbish advice.

Thanks for the feed back truth is, I used to cast at 170m when I practiced and measure it. Right now I'm at 135m because I havent practiced in a while. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Please do me and others a favour and pop a reply to this message with say 3 things that you do to improve your distance so that we can all learn together.

@@ItsTippToppFishing It has never been 170 m and it probably isn’t even 135. Once you cast, reel in and stretch your line until it is nice and tight with the sinker. From that point, count how many full revolutions of your reel until your sinker is back where it started and then you might get a rough estimate of how far you actually cast. I promise you, it’s nowhere near as far as you think. For a true long distance cast the first thing you need to learn is how to load your rod as far back as possible. For such casts, with a line that can actually catch a 6 lbs fish and bring it in, (4-6 ounce sinker on a 40-50 lbs test braided line, or something along those lines), you need a much bigger turning radius of your rod then the 90° or so that you show using your method. You also need to put your sinker at around the same height as your reel. You place your sinker in front of you and swing the rod around about 360° and cast upwards. This method will result in a flight that you won’t even be able to follow with your eyes and will load the rod to its maximum potential. You will feel it very distinctly on your finger. It may take a few tries before you get used to it but you may very well double your casting distance. To see this casting in action, just search for any of the world championship casting competition and you can see what they do.

@@carmel721 cool beans thanks for the advice. I'll look up that technique. Just for your information, for the 135m atleast, I have witnesses to prove how I measured it. But just for fun I'll let you know. I cast a lead out, and waited for it to hit the bottom of a 1.6m deep lake. I tightened up the line to the lead, then clipped it. Then realed in the line. Then I put 2 distance sticks at exactly 12ft apart (rod tip to rod butt) then wrapped out the line till I hit the clip. It was 37 wraps. 37(wraps) x 12 (feet) = 444 feet which is: 135.33m

@@carmel721 what you are describing here, sounds like a technique for open-water-fishing on the coasts. Isn’t it? This doesn’t suit carp fishing, since you loose accuracy…

@@Markusgebvor To cast far, you have to accelerate your sinker to a higher speed. It’s that simple. Now, because you can’t just apply an enormous amount of force on your rod and line, (Rod breaking, leader breaking, top shot breaking, etc..) you must give yourself more time to accelerate your sinker,so you can reach that higher speed. The way to do that is by using a pendulum cast. It lengthens the amount of time that you are accelerating you’re a sinker and therefore you can reach a higher speed. It’s basic physics. Look up pendulum casting, there are many videos on KZread that will show you how you can elevate your casting abilities. I myself, gained a great deal of information by watching these videos. It takes time to master, it definitely took me some time but now that I feel comfortable using a pendulum cast, I am achieving far better results. Also, this is not for open water deep-sea fishing on a boat. Pendulum casting is for surf fishing, preferably with a very long rod in a place where you don’t have a lot of people around you. When you use pendulum casting, you are essentially sweeping the entire shore and if your sinker breaks away from your rig while you are casting by mistake, you can definitely severely injure someone that is standing anywhere near you. Surfcasting only!
