5 UNIQUE Tips - Lawn Care Tips for Beginners
Lawn care for beginners doesn't need to be complicated or confusing in order to maintain a beautiful lawn. In this video, I will give you 5 unique and simple lawn care tips for beginners.
Tip 1: Scott's spreaders are commonly used to spread fertilizers, seeds, and other materials evenly across a lawn or garden. However, one common issue that people may experience when using Scott's spreaders is the formation of striping lines on the lawn due to the accumulation of fertilizer in the hollow wheels. Avoid these spreaders at all costs.
Tip 2: Edging your lawn is a simple but effective way for beginners to enhance its overall appearance. By creating a defined border between the grass and surrounding areas, such as sidewalks or flower beds, the lawn looks more polished and well-maintained. This also helps prevent grass from encroaching onto other areas, reducing the need for additional maintenance. Overall, edging is an easy and inexpensive way to boost your lawn's curb appeal and make it the envy of the neighborhood.
Tip 3: Fall is the best time to seed cool season grasses because the soil is warm, but the air temperature is cooler, providing ideal conditions for growth. Avoid seeding in spring if possible. To ensure successful germination, the seed must be kept moist throughout the process. This can be achieved by watering lightly but frequently.
Tip 4: Mowing your lawn regularly is one of the simplest yet most effective ways to maintain its health and appearance. Regular mowing helps promote strong and even growth, prevents weeds and pests from taking hold, and encourages a lush, green lawn. Additionally, keeping the grass at an appropriate height can help reduce stress on the roots and improve overall water absorption. Overall, frequent mowing is one of the most important things you can do for your lawn.
Tip 5: The Scotts 4 Step Fertilizer Program is a popular choice for beginners looking to improve their lawn's health and appearance. This program simplifies the process of fertilizing by breaking it down into four easy-to-follow steps, each designed to provide the necessary nutrients and care at the appropriate time of year. With clear instructions and a comprehensive schedule, the Scotts 4 Step Program takes the guesswork out of lawn care and is a great choice for those new to fertilizing.

"The Blatant Disrespect" part got me! 😆😆
I was at Lowe's a few days ago and noticed the mini spreader had new wheels that looked solid. It's about time they fixed this issue. I can't imagine the amount of seed and fertilizer wasted over the years.
Thanks for getting straight to the point !!!
Great tips.you're right on point about the scotts spreader
One of my best contributions as a pharmacist at a local big box store was counseling someone, not on a medication, but rather to get that Scott's spreader out of their cart ASAP! I always told people that the garden center was the only other department I was qualified to run. PS- nice thumbnail pic!

this is the best video probably ever made for beginners.. Thank you
I have a Red Devil spreader from sometime in the 80's. Throws mostly to the left, but works like a champ. It's not huge like these new rigs that take up a bunch of space. I can adjust flow based on how many passes I want to make and prill size. No settings on the machine, but a scratch where I like it set for Milo and can adjust from there for other products or seed.
After watching this video I ran out to the garage to examine the wheels on my spreader. I really couldn’t justify getting a new spreader in the past as it seemed to work just fine but I think you just gave me a good reason to buy-I mean invest in a new tool 👌😗
Heck yeah! Nice work man

Could u give us some schedules or make a video about, when to use what type of fertilizer on cool season grass. So much info out there and all different impossible to figure it out what type of fertilizer to use in what type of season. Slow release spring? Fast release summer and fall? What should be the NPK ratio for each of those seasons? Love your videos learning a ton!!!
Thank you for that tip on scotts spreaders, doing more damage than good, seems like an intentional set back from the company, for more sells to repair the damage 🤔. Fully subscribed behind that nugget of information.

I’m in central Fl. I’m a new home owner and want my grass to be great. Should I follow these recommendations or is it different with central Fl grass?
I know this is an old video but just in case youre still checking comments... 2 questions; 1) I live in the suburbs of the SF Bay & the summers here hit 110+ on peak summer days. I' going to reno my front yard this fall. I'm on the fence between KBG & Tall Fescue. I like the look of the KBG but I'm worried i wont be able to keep it from going dormant in the summer. B) I reno-ed my back yard last year as a N00b used JG Black Beauty Ultra. I'm not unhappy with it as its miles better than the scorched earth it was, but now I have Fomo over elite cultivars. Am I making more out of that than I need to or should I just blow it out again (or maybe overseed) & replace with top quality seed when i do the front this fall?
Quick question? When you have a metal fense, can you use the edger on the fense or no? Need advice
New to the channel! 👌🏼 having trouble with my yard and been putting back breaking work in day in and day out. Just curious what the sprinkler heads are at 4:42 they look very similar to mine but I do not have that same pressure and wonder if that may be a problem with my watering?
@LAWNLIFE
Жыл бұрын
You can change your output by changing the nozzles in them. You can also screw down the screw to change the spray pattern. Watch my video titled "why do I have dead spots in the same spot every year" I talk about the spray pattern in that video. If it's a pressure problem, I'm not sure what to do about that honestly I have hunter heads btw
That's the best advice for the spreaders- it's a tool- spend a bit more and get a professional spreader- which will be a life long tool that will last you for as long as you are a home owner. And don't ever use it for salt spreading.
My understanding is that Scotts updated the design to change how the seeds are distributed to prevent the issue mentioned here.
Love your content. I also live in Minnesota, and there is not a whole lot of content relating to our climate. Do you have any content on weed killing? Dealing with a bad weed problem, Ivy, Creeping Char., Dands, Crabs, Cloves, and others. Any advice for product, application, time of year, temp, ect. for a complete lawn noob.

Where do you buy high end seeds?
If you have a hollow wheel spreader, I wonder if you gorilla tape the inside of the wheels to block access for the falling fertilizer. Yes - it will look weird, but maybe it's worth it for the more budget option over full plastic/rubber.
