5 TON Military Truck Turned OFF GRID HOME for FULL TIME RV living!

#5TonTruck #MilitaryVehicles #RV #OffGridLiving A central Washington man bought a surplus 5 Ton military truck from the U.S. Army and turned it into an RV he lives in and takes off road and off grid to remote locations for camping. He says you can take it anywhere it fits. Here's a tour of it along with commentary from my husband, Lynn, who spent 12 years in the USMC and a lot of time in these vehicles.

Nicely done M934A1. I have a 1992 M934A2 that I’m working on making into an off-road camper. The only difference between the M934A1 and M934A2 is the A2 has a Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS) that allows you to control the tire pressure in all 6 tires at the touch of a button in the cab.

They're actually a remarkable vehicle if you treat it as an opportunity; With a few relatively inexpensive improvements, they can be as luxurious as any Country Music Star's Tour Bus. The Expando-Van feature can be kept while the floor - which should be added to(or up-graded) - could be improved with radiant heating(My unit had one in Germany, and the floor and walls could get fearsome cold at night. There's a diesel heater(located inside on an equipment shelf that's directly behind the cab) that is hooked to the truck's main fuel tank for convenience. He doesn't have the corner and middle supports for the sides hooked up, either; if those 6 legs aren't put on the sides will soon sag and won't easily expand like they should. Those aluminum diamond-plate floors look nice but heavy people(like most Americans) will soon put dimples and sags in the floor plates. It's too bad the original floors were so weak, they really are a bold and innovative idea. Also, the idea of improving one got me excited as soon as I saw this video. I'd like to see someone make one like that.

RV or RecreateVehicles. In America, RecreateVehicles operate with basic sedan license. During our half-century of full-time live-aboard, we converted multiple commercial vehicles to RecreateVehicles: * two semi-trailers * two semi-tractors * two busses. 2003, we converted a 1996 Ford CF8000 commercial truck to our concept of an ExpeditionVehicle. Nearly two decades full-time live-aboard in our ExpeditionVehicle, we are prohibited from entering a weigh-station or Entry Port. Those are for commercial vehicles only; our rigs are RecreateVehicles. . If anybody tells you otherwise, they are not aware of the truth... they are guessing about the law.

I think I'd rather have a house, however humble, and a 4x4 that's nimble. Heckuva truck, though! I just couldn't get it into a lot of the places I like to get into with just my pickup or my pickup and an off-road teardrop. But yeah, if you're RV-ing at a National Forest campground, with RV hookups, just off a highway, somewhere, then you can maneuver OK in those grounds. You're just way over-built for what you need. Still very cool setup, with the two slide-outs. Looks a little top-heavy, especially the way he secures his bed and t.v. for the road. Definitely would handle mud and snow better than your typical RV setup with them big tires!
