Haven't seen those adjustable boxes before. I'm sure they're more expensive but worth it when theres going to be tile/backsplash. Nice tip.

I staple my service loops away from the box so the loop can be pulled through the box if needed. You stapled after your loop and made it extremely difficult to pull your loop through especially after drywall goes up

Thanks for the comment! I agree with you that it would be so nice if I could staple the other part of the loop. However, I need to build per code and if you read the NEC you’ll find out you are not supposed to have the staple further than 12 inches from the box (no more than 12 inches of free wire). I hope that helps!

the loop is definitely only for rough in. a small loop will save tens of feet of cable in case the layout changes before the walls get closed. i think inspectors who know the NEC will agree that the staple needs to be after the loop, and it's not for pulling cable into the box after the wall gets closed.

I've been using the adjustable boxes on back splashes for years. Not so sure about those service loops tho, I think it makes the electricity dizzy right before it comes out.

Thanks for the comment! Yes, the electrical could be dizzy, but this is green energy, so it does not get dizzy easily. LOL (first time I hear about dizziness on electrical lol)

That adjustable box is interesting, never seen or used them before but it certainly would help with those annoying huge gaps especially when they use title that is extra thick

Great tips and workmanship.on the subject of the adjustable boxes,good luck adjusting them if there is sprayfoam in the wall or when the tile guy does not do a perfect cutout.

Thanks! Good thought! But we don't spray foam on any of our projects. For the tile, we self person the installation so we ensure great cutout. Thanks!!

if your going to loop wire, staple before the loop. if you rotozip and damage a wire you can just pull the loop into the box.

Thanks!! It’s a great idea! However unfortunately by code (at least in CA) we have to staple the wire within 12 inches of the box and the look is longer than 12 inches. But I have never thought that this trick could help me with damaged wire! Thanks!

Agreed. Gotta have some slack between the box and staple in case somebody cuts the wire or any other possible problem, otherwise you're screwed if you need to pull some extra wire into box. I had a guy that I came behind on trim out and he had used his linemans to strip the Romex and about half of the wires were actually broken. He left me no slack either. I ended up with maybe 1-2 inches of wire in box. Barely enough to add pigtails... Needless to say it took me about 10 times longer than usual to make things up on trim out. I was pissed.

Well, in that case, you may want your local inspectors to go back to school and study the code again. If you look well, the NM cable is stapled within 6 inches of the box.

@@LilMuffinTop Depends on the situation. If the drywall is not yet installed you can remove the staple and move it. If the drywall is in, you can slide the NM cable that is in the stable (which is not squeezing the cable). If you need more wire, you need to open the drywall more to remove the staple but at the end when you move a plug you already have drywall work in the process.

But we have done so many remodels with customers who wanted to move up or down plugs that now we always do it, and the inspectors and homeowners are happy, which is what we want. Thanks!

You stapled the wire above the loop . If the wire ever needed to be pulled for future service , you couldn’t .

Good eye Jonny! But maybe we have done it on purpose to follow the electrode code that requires us to staple the Romex within 12 inches of the junction box? And maybe the staple is not fully nailed leaving the wire loose enough for pulling the wire like you said? I don't know you seem to know more than us.
