The best anti-blister protection is hiking shoes/boots one size up, or half size up if you walk in trail running shoes, with thinker socks or socks plus liner. One other thing, do not buy cheap shoes. They are cheap for a reason, and that is because of the material they are made of. As stated in this video too, your entire trip is ruined if your shoes hurt you.

I find one t shirt is fine. I wash it at the end of the day and hang it up to dry. I’ll wear my warm layer while at camp, 2 pairs of running shorts and 2 pairs of socks. You really don’t need much. Make sure you have somewhere dry to go if the weather turns and warm layers/sleeping bag and you’ll be good. My base weight is 5kg and I find the walking sooooo much more enjoyable.

We just did the Camino last month. I had a blister on the 2nd day. An ICU nurse we met gave me competed. It helped but growing up I always just poke it and let the liquid out. So we went to a pharmacy and bought a sterilized needle, that not only helped but it healed the next day.

Happy to say that when we did the Tour de Mont Blanc we met just 2 Groups and they were going in the opposite direction. Also, the only time I have ever had a blister was when I wire a sock liner.🤢

I use just 2 pairs of t-shirts/socks/boxers. It means everday washing but it takes just like 5mins. On TMB had absolutely no blisters but had my great Altras (1-1,5 size bigger than I usually need).

the bigger shoes didn't make your feet slide back and forth in them??

@@hannesdobbelaere There is some instability, especially sideways and it requires to be more carefull. Maybe 0,5 smaller size would fix it a bit. For more technical trails or out of trails i usually take this bigger Altras for easy terrain and Salewa Wildefires for more technical parts.

Hey, good video - did you bring a camping / hiking chair or would have wished you did? I am trying to save money and weight but some say a chair is a must. Maybe to save weight I could depend on taking seat in the towns underway and on stones if not on the ground. Was thinking to otherwise bring my hammock and sit in that. The hammock is much lighter than even the lightest hiking chair. But then I would need trees and don't know how many there are on this trail? Cheers

Extra tip for blisters To avoid them bring a lot of socks and don't walk with wet socks. Change the socks often. Wear two pairs of the socks. Also wrap you feet in sports tape. Blisters hurt like hell and could possibly cause sepsis. If you do get blister try not to break it. Make sure the socks are not cotton. Merino wool is best.

Nice video, good advice. You shouldn't be getting any blisters if your shoes fit, and boots are not needed on TMB, lightweight trail running shoes are a lot more comfortable and lighter. Is always funny to see the size of peoples packs on TMB, a 20 liter pack is plenty big enough unless you are camping in that case you need a little bit bigger to carry the tent and sleeping bag, bit still go as light and small as possible.

Grüezi Some great lessons. You think Alps but you don't think lots of towns. But I have to ask...... PCT? AT? CDT? I think you would be brilliant over there. Thanks for the vlog.

Hi, thanks for the video. I would recommend not 5, not 3 but just 1 shirt for the entire trip. As you hike you will start to sweat within the hour so what is the use of putting on a clean shirt? Just wash yourself and the shirt in rivers, lakes, campsite showers.

Don‘t eat snaks that are high on sugar. That‘s the worst thing you can do, eat snacks with high fat contents (Nuts).

Absolutely, young folk seemed to get away with it, but still, low GI is essential. Maybe a little boost on the last twenty minutes is ok.

Feeling a blister coming up after the first 100m?? Sounds like a rookie mistak. Best way to avoid blisters is: Break in your shoes, know how to lace them properly and tape your heels in advance!
