Great timing and tips, is my first year growing dahlias, you may have just saved my dahlias from being overwatered, big thank you!
Possibly six years ago I came across a channel run by a lovely, soft spoken, old chap, from Northern Ireland, I think. He had a series of videos showing how to break dahlias from dormancy and then take cuttings of the shoots. Each shoot is then potted on until they are planted out. He reckoned they made better plants than just growing the tubers from the previous year. I gave it a try and I agree. The other benefit is that you only need to overwinter one tuber of each of your favourites. Sadly, the channel disappeared from KZread.
First time seeing your vid. Love it, I am in Oz, QLD. I don’t have a sheltered area to pot up things out of the rain and wind but I have been decluttering my potting area, which is only just under the eve of our house and some shade cloth. So love to see your great ideas!
Planted mine indoors yesterday
I ve planted mine already a few weeks ago ...to have earlier flowers. In a greenhouse ... I also started mignon Dahlias from seed. Greeti gs, Marcus
Impeccable timing Katrina. I was just thinking whether it's possibly too late to buy and pot new Dahlia tubers. Now I know it isn't that'll be another gardening job for the weekend.
I'm having a go at growing dahlias for the first time this year. I'm really looking forward to seeing how they go and if it's flower that likes our environment, fingers crossed for beautiful blooms later in the year.
Thank you, I needed this!! Im growing my own wedding flowers for our September wedding this year too... Just started to wake up my dahlia tubers indoors 3 days ago because I was afraid they might not be viable... I could only find eyes on a few of them and they are in bad shape... Praying at least some of them sprout! 😅😬
love
Brilliant video and perfectly timed. I potted mine last week and was wondering about watering them again. I will definitely put that watering can down!!!!!,
It will be so exciting watching them bloom this year, knowing that they have an autumn appointment. Cannot wait to see them in all their glory! I just received word that Wollerton Old Hall and The Pilgrim have begun their voyage to the USA, Missouri to be exact! I'm so excited!
Great advice given in an entertaining manner, thanks.... 😃
Thank you for these tips, I love watching your channel 🙌 I’ve purchased my first Café au Lait to try this year from Farmer Gracy! I am super excited ❤
I just bought a load dahlias saw your tips will be a great help thank you
Great advice thank you. I potted my Dahlia's on Monday. Here in wet wet Manchester, the last frost date is 10th May so the only moisture they will get until then is what was already in the compost and only a light watering then.
Dahila's grown by You-Tubers! :) They will be beautiful, hoping for perfect weather!
Mine arrived this week and they are on my weekend to do list
Looking especially forward to your garden this year of your wedding. It will be more beautiful than ever I think 😍
I’ve never been much of a Dahlia lover but I wanted some to attract bees and fell in love with a couple of singles - Kelsey Annie Joy and Teesbrooke Audrey, so I’ve taken the plunge and am growing for the first time. I potted them a couple of days ago and as the compost was quite moist I decided not to water them as I’m paranoid about rotting the tubers. Fingers crossed everything will be ok and who knows? I may have a Dahlia addiction by the end of the season 😂
Planted my one and only today, so I heard all you said, so time will tell if I have success or not. Thanks for sharing your tips. 👍❤️😊
