Excellent tips and painting! Seeing the difference in styles and material preferences among artists is always illuminating. For your "dreamy", yet colorful style, you use non-staining colors and are still able to get a full value range. Your darks and colors both have impact. Anna Bucciarelli, in her latest on "Clean & Crisp" paintings, uses staining pigments nearly exclusively for her more detailed, realistic style. We can all learn from each other. (Okay, we will all learn much more from you than the other way around!😉)

I will have to check out how she uses staining paints! Staining paints are often best if you want to achieve transparency yet have super darks from just one or two layers.

Hello Rachel, I love your videos. I was wondering if you could help me. I'm wanting to buy Windsor Newton professional watercolor set. What's best, tubes or square cakes. Do they both have the same pigment strength? Thanks for your advice.

Hi Jerry - I prefer tubes because you can squeeze them into whatever palette you want. I let them set up over night then use them by rewetting them to get just what I need. Tubes and pans are equal in quality.
