Literally stacking buffs right now your yeast choice is awesome it ferments warm (meaning you can drink in only a few days instead of weeks) and makes a beer that resembles a light beer everyone knows and loves. pressurized fermenters reduce yeast funk from fermenting warm and you pre carbonate I would recommend racking into your keg via your already existing pressure (or an exterior CO2 tank) through a floating dip tube that was pre placed into your fermenter and lastly buy dry yeast it lasts forever in the correct conditions and has far less of a chance of being infected with bacteria compared to liquid yeast.
Love this. 2 all rounders and 3-4 kegs can keep a beginner set up to always have an available fermenter or keg for their next batch, with ~$250 invested.

I started kegging relatively quickly and after my first batch was like, “Why didn’t I switch over sooner?” So much easier than bottling!!!

Even though I keg most all of my beers, cleaning bottles is very easy if you're dilligent in cleaning them when you empty them.

Oh definitely! Bottling isn’t all that bad especially when you want to age a beer like a Belgian quad or something. And yes cleaning on the front end is much easier than saving it all until bottle day!
Awesome! Nothing more fun then working with someone just getting into the hobby. Best two things id say is 1: Keep things clean and 2: RDWHAHB - Relax, dont worry, have a home brew! Cheers!

I could not agree more with these beginner tips. The ONLY one I would say... maybe hold off on... is Tip 5. Especially if someone new wants to just get their feet wet and not spend over $125 on just a fermenter. Long term, absolutely get your hands on a pressure fermentation vessel.
My tip: floating dip tube. Ferment under pressure and serve from the same keg. 7 days G2G tops!

I have enjoyed watching your videos & look forward to new ones in 2023. Thanks for the tips in this video. I brew small batches due to tge size of my kettle & plastic bucket fermenter. I have access to a larger kettle but would like your opinion about upgrading the fermenter. I am a beginner, so I'd appreciate any insight. Thanks, Bill

Thanks for watching! So before I recommend a fermenter I’d need to know if you’re bottling or kegging? If you’re still bottling do you think you’d switch to kegging at some point? The reason I ask would be if you plan on kegging at some point I’d probably recommend a fermenter that has the ability to do a closed transfer (holds at least a little psi). If not and you plan on bottling for the foreseeable future then I’d probably recommend something slightly different.

I do plan to move towards kegging. I have dabbled with forced carbonation in my 64oz pressurized growler & that works better then bottle conditioning. Right now I'm only brewing batches of 1.5 gallons because of my equipment limitations. The problem is I drink through it quickly. Also, I don't see myself brewing batches larger than 3-5 gallons based on the lack of space in my home. I'm still using the kitchen stove to heat the strike water & boil. I appreciate any advice.

@@billtharpe9126 Since you’re planning on moving towards kegging id go with something that holds pressure. And if you’re only planning on doing 3-5 gallon batches you don’t need anything super big. I might even go towards just fermenting in a keg itself! You can pick up used/refurbished kegs for around $50. Spend about $20 to switch out the dip tube to a floating dip tube and bam! You’ve got yourself a fermenter. Only downside to fermenting in a keg is you can’t really go larger than 4 gallons but if you’re okay with that it’s a great option. My next recommendation would be the Fermzilla all rounder. Downside to that is the shape. Little bit harder to function with in a small space and it’s a bit more expensive $120ish with pressure kit. Clawhammer will have their keg fermenter available soon as well. More expensive than the previous 2 fermenters but large enough for a full 5 gallon batch and still has a smallish footprint although it is wider and taller than a corny keg. The other thing to think about is that kegs and the Clawhammer are stainless steel and will out last the fermzilla for sure so you might spend more initially for something stainless but it will last a heck of a lot longer.

🤣 Seriously, I know felt sacreligious to wear it honestly! My sons about died when I put it on. It was a Christmas gift from my father in law, who must not know where my allegiance stands, I will always be an angels fan! And the astros are on my most hated list, but I do love baseball, and hats, and figured it’s not really worth it to try and return, soooo may as well get some use out of it 🤣
Tons of kegging equipment used on craigslist, Facebook marketplace this time of year. I see kegs as low as $35 in Portland right now.

It depends on your length of beer line and interior diameter. I run 10 feet of line with 3/16 ID and usually from 10-12 psi at 39F. However, you can adjust up and down depending on beer style. Cheers!

These are more just tips to go from beginner to intermediate. There is nothing wrong with stove top extract fermented in a bucket and bottled.

My beginner recommendation is gallon batches on the stovetop in a stock pot. Use an old (or goodwill) parka to insulate the mash. Use a spaghetti strainer to get most of the grains out of the wort, then a fine strainer for the rest. Whole leaf hops are easy to remove with a strainer too. Chill with an ice bath in the sink, ferment in a glass jug leftover from cider or cheap wine. Putting a gallon in pop tops isn't a big deal, and they are nice for giving away brew to friends. I still do experimental batches, and meads this way even after graduating to stainless conical/keg for most beers.

I can see that for sure! Nothing wrong with extract at all it’s a great place to start, and even a great place for experienced brewers to experiment and save a bit of time on brew day.

@@dexterne I still think there’s a place for bottles as well with stronger beers that need aging. I’ll spend the time to bottle occasionally for those. I haven’t done many 1 gallon batches but I totally need too! Great way to experiment and I could totally handle bottling a 1 gallon batch!

Why do they call it "pitching" yeast instead of "adding" yeast? You're not throwing it in the fermenter like a baseball you're pouring it in. I swear homebrewing has some dumb terminology and words that make it difficult for a n00b to learn. I just bought John Palmers How to Brew and that thing is laid out like a college textbook on physics. I doubt I'll ever pick it up again!! 😄 I'm just a simple man from down in the hollar 🤓
