I always try to keep my ISO at or on ISO100. I can do IS064, however it slows down my shutter speed way too far (I don't have a remote shutter cord YET!). Instead, I will use my self timer with an interval timer of 2 to 5 seconds to allow my camera to stabilise, before the camera takes the shot I am looking for. Once I have my tripod set up the way I want to, I set my focus point on the nearest or furthest object and start playing around. I live in the UK and I get to go to London a lot. I recently managed to get a few long exposures of the London Eye and the Tower of London. Here is one from my IG feed: - instagram.com/p/Bd6-qQYB-o1/?taken-by=the.postcard.traveller As always, you have shared tips that I can still learn from and will no doubt use in my next nighttime outing. ;)

TravelFeels oh man! We appreciate the grind Matti...
The more frames per second you´re shooting at, the more light you need. This is amazing advice and you´re the first person I´ve heard this from. Thank you!

Avoiding slow-mo in dark areas is a great tip! I shot a wedding reception recently at 60fps and in post production I wished I had switched to 25fps to let more light in.
Really great tips Matti! I recently found out a little trick, but it depends on your preference. If you want to shoot at 60fps (lets say) without bumping up your ISO and losing quality, you can bring your shutter speed down to 1/60 instead of the usual 1/120, you just have to keep your shoots steady and I've notice no real difference in my case (with motion) as long as you keep your movements smooth. Anyhow keep up the great work Matti, been loving your work!

Love shooting at night. Makes you think about your surroundings and light differently. It also keeps me inspired if I haven't been able to travel out the city for a while!

I love when you & Peter work together. Each of you brings a different perspective, and I feel like I learn so much more. Great job!
Love the fact that Peter did the photo side of this and you are doing the video side of this sharing the work load and showing your awesome friendship, my best friend makes his way into a lot of my work. Keep growing man, I watch every video you both drop!
Hi Matti - I absolutely love it when you and Peter do stuff and then post your separate videos on the some topic and include each other. I'm a very happy subscriber - I get all your notices for all your posts and I smash that Thumbs Up every time!
You and Peter did a video on the same sort of thing! That's awesome! Great to hear both of your tips based on your experience!
I've done night shoots before and usually always avoided it. But since I bought my Leica 15mm f1.7 for my Panasonic G85, it's been really amazing and is such a wide open lens for those really dark occasions! Great tips Matti!
Great advice. Very thorough and I like that you preemptively re-shot everything in the different ISO's and such to show the audience everything for visual explanation. The solid shots you get with that Canon are absolutely gorgeous. I came here to prep myself for a night time event and this is one of the top videos that popped up. Much respect to your quality work.
Great tips! Especially like the lighting tips and the footage of Peter with the red neon sign and overhead lighting, very nice and creative! Thanks for sharing!
Great topic choice! Stoked to try these out
thanks Matti!!! I've been subscribed for some time now and you are the grandmaster of the camera
It's so adorable that you and Peter have bro channels! Both videos on night shoots are amazing, thank you guys for this!
Thanks for the tips! awesome work. Been subscribed to you and petes channel for ages, you guys are awesome :)
Great video, and tips overall... great info and lens suggestions as well
Really happy to be a subscriber, Matti, you’re awesome and immensely helpful! Thanks for everything you do.
Thank you Matti! Been waiting for this video for a long time and finally you did it! Appreciate it!
Thanks for your videos and all the info Matti. I have been taking photos at night and planning to shoot some vids soon. This came in handy. Cheers
Great video Matti! You and peter are always inspiring me! Keep it up!
Been watching you, Peter, and Chris for a few months now. I'm new to filmmaking (and now Vlogging since 2019), you three have provided a lot of value to my craft. Finally subscribed and rung the bell for you :)
I’ve shot a decent amount of photos at night, but haven’t really tried filming when it’s dark. These tips make me wanna give it a go.
YESSS!! Finally the video I've been waiting for. I do a lot or night time urban photography/filmmaking so this really helped! thanks!!

Really great video, as always, now I’m in the process on learning B-roll for my videos, and this is encouraging video showing me great b-roll even on night. Thank you, Daniel!
Great tips! The stabilizer is so clutch in these shots too. Without the ability to shoot at 120fps or even 60fps sometimes in low light, the stabilizer really makes up for the smoother motion you'd be gaining at a higher fps. Love the video.
Thanks Matti! Great and helpful content especially as a starter 🙂
Subscribed... didn't realise i hadn't already been watching your content for ages. Love the cinematography.
This video mixed with Peters recent video are both amazing. such great insight and knowledge you both give us. I really like your video when you give examples of the lens and FPS with light. all things i tend to struggle with at night. Time for me to get more comfortable with shooting at night.
Amazing tips once again! I'm so glad that I found your KZread channel, you've been incredibly helpful through my creative journey.

Great work from you and Pete. I'm tingling.

Lovely stuff... lovely indeed!
The 30 and 16mm Sigma 1.4s are a nice choice for micro four thirds or Sony at night (somewhat more affordable when talking new lenses with AF at least).
Yay! Matti and Peter post within his of each other. Keep up the good work. Loving the new list format
Hope you are well Matti! Another great video!

First time seeing your videos and holy crap those shots are gorgeous man you earned a subscriber!
Very interesting colaboration. For me both your videos popped up at the same time. Subscribed already and watched your video first. Only because yours was on top. :)
Suuuuper helpful video Matti!
awesome tips, thanks for the great advise learnt a lot from your channel
Appreciate this is an older video now but still very helpful. Shooting a dark interior for my short film today 🎥 Matti is still one of the top KZread filmmakers in my mind!
Matti I always learn a lot from Ur videos! Cheers
Nice video man, very inspiring!
Bonus Tips: #6 - Cap the Auto ISO. In most cameras you can limit the highest ISO your camera can go to on Auto. So find the highest ISO your camera can record without looking like trash and set the limit. That way you can leave the ISO on Auto and work around it. If the image is too under exposed try working with the Aperture or find a better light source. If nothing else works and you have to get the shot you can always manually set the ISO. #7 - When everything else fails use your smartphone flash. Almost everyone walks with portable lighting in their pockets, granted it is not the best light but it might get the job done. Useful for vlogs to get your face in focus Great tips Matti, Keep up the awesome work!
dude i love this, trying to figure out what i need to shoot a music video for a band "at night". this video came in handy for what i need to do.
Solid work on this one
This is so helpful! Great video 👏🏻
Thanks for continuing to share Matti. Cool shots
Matti, these are great! I hate shooting at night and now I learned a lot on how to improve the quality of my videos. Otherwise I just avoid nighttime shooting all together.
Wow man thanks for the awesome tips!!! Loved it!
Amazing like always bud!
Get the sigma 30 mm f1.4 it’s half the cost of the 18-35 f1.8
@tubeman1983
5 жыл бұрын
That is right but the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 plus the speedbooster becomes an f1.1 lense. That is you use a MTF camera like the GH5.
Thank you for the tips. A great help for me shooting at night time 😊🙌🏻
Love me some night shooting! Matti, great tips mate.
Always great info! Thanks much!
Thx dude, love ur channel.
Great tips - I love it and will keep in mind!
Love it! More on night shooting please! How do I keep the person (subject) lit while everything else remains black and in the shadows. Is there a certain technique to light your subject without or at least minimizing lighting the background as well. Thank you!
thanks for the tips, matt!
Dude like I said before ive learned more from you about filmmaking than anyone on youtube. Thanks man you are an awesome teacher.
This helps a lot dude! Thank you!
