Getting the best max color out of our fish really increases the pop and enjoyment we get out of viewing our fish. But some tanks can't get that pop, that max color. Why? Watch this and I'll share with you the 5 tips, 5 simple ways to ensure that you're getting the best color in your fish.
I also include some bonus tips and I select my current favorite most colorful cichlids in the 210 gallon African Cichlid tank.
What's been your experience with getting fish to show their best color?Comment below and share your advice and tips since we all learn from each other around here!
Always be learning and don't ever forget that YOU ROCK!
Please smash that sub buttor. It tells KZread that you're enjoying the channel and encourages KZread to share the channel with other fish keepers. It will also help us to push the channel over 40,000 subs, something that I considered a while back as an impossible achievement! Thank you!!!
Some of you have asked for a way to support the channel. I thank you for asking. Here are a couple ways you can help to keep the content coming:
1. Use this link when visiting Amazon for any of your Amazon purchases (fish or non-fish related): www.amazon.com/shop/benochart
Any qualified purchase after using that link to get to Amazon will provide the channel with a small percentage. You still get the best price on all goods, so it's a true win-win!
2. Visit my TeeSpring store (listed under every one of my videos) and consider purchasing some channel merchandise. The store offers coffee mugs, tees, hoodies and other cool stuff. All purchases pay the channel a small percentage. Use "LIVESTREAM" for a 10% discount at check-out.
3. Watch, like, share, sub and hit that bell. Growing the channel is truly the best way to show support and I thank those of you who have done this.
Live Streaming
Join me and a great group of fish keepers on Saturday's at 11am Central (that's 9am Pacific / Noon Eastern) for The Cichlids & Coffee live stream. It's a great hour of fish fun and gets into everything from setting up a tank, proper filtration, fish selection and everything in between. I hope to see you there.
A big shout-out to my channel sponsor THE CICHLID SHACK, provider of top quality fish and fish keeping food and supplies. Visit the shack at thecichlidshack.com and use "shackattack10" for a 10% discount on all products (including food) and use "shackattack15" for a 15% discount on all fish purchases over $100.
Thank you to key vendors that have helped with my new fish room including:
Aquarium Co-Op, a top provider of both products and knowledge for all types of fish keepers.
Elite Cichlids, providing the best looking artificial plants available.
Sicce, a top quality manufacturer of aquarium pumps and filters.

    Just wanted to let you know I just ordered a full spectrum JC&P light. Was 1/2 the cost of my current light that was told was full spectrum but you have to buy each LED 4 light cube to add colors other than the 6 white and 4 blue it comes with. Thanks for the tip.

    Great video. Any thoughts on benefits of purigen and seachem cichlid trace? I use both and, while the purigen seems to have made a big improvement in water quality and nitrate reduction, not sure if there is any benefit to cichlid trace. Fish are colored up and breeding.

  • @BenOchart

    @BenOchart

    Ай бұрын

    I’d be reluctant to change anything you’re doing since your fish sound like they are in great shape. Purigen is great for clearing up cloudy water but I stop using it after a tank becomes well established (running successfully for a year or longer) but I do continue to use trace minerals since it provides vital elements usually not in our tap water.

    Excellent video. I checked my pH a few days ago and it seems to be under 6. How could I raise the pH without adding chemicals. I improved aeration and thinking about reducing the amount of food and the amount of feedings a week. I'm thinking that should help. Any other tips. Aiming for 7/7.5.

    Good info as always Ben but I have a question. I have a female Betta (got her because I was told females are less aggressive which I have found to be true so far). Since I got her, her skin color is a very light pinkish color and her fins and tail are a bit more red. Bettas as you know (males) tend to be very vibrant in color. Will this female stay this light color or will she change? I've had her about 4 months or so. Thanks for ALL the help you have given me over the past many months with all my parameter issues. All my parameters are perfect now and the water crystal clear.

  • @BenOchart

    @BenOchart

    2 жыл бұрын

    That’s great on your parameters Tim. I’m not that experienced with Betta but do know that, like African Cichlids, females can be drab when compared to males. Lisa at KG Tropicals has a lot of videos on Betta and I believe she was keeping an all female betta tank.

    Another great video Mr Ochart but I kind of disagree with the claims on African cichlids you see the females unfortunately just don't pop in colour unlike Americans do and I can think of quite a lot of American cichlids that will easily be a contender against any male African best thing is both male and female Americans pop with colour. I personally feel that you get more variety in shapes of cichlids with American over African maybe I'm just bias but American cichlids overall for me..
