    Smitty01z28 -- After three returns of my 1-4x24x CrossfireII I complained that I had an inherently flawed scope and asked for a new one. They agreed, and it's performed perfectly. In every case they sent return labels to pay return shipping costs. I've been a devotee since and never had reason to send any of the other six (seven?) scopes or dots back. A warranty that has you constantly sending the item back is dubious, but my issue has been limited to one bad optic. All of the others, particularly my 6-18x44mm mil dot Crossfire II, have been nothing short of amazing clarity, function and reliability for a fraction of the price of any comparable option I've considered. They not only honor the VIP promise, they're eager to do so: friendly and professional.

    In regards to what a Mil works out to be, the Vortex rep misspoke here. He said a Miliradian is 1cm at 100m, but this is incorrect. 1 Miliradian is 10cm at 100m, and 0.1 Mils equals 1 cm at 100m. A miliradian is defined as the unit when the length of the circular arc is 1/1000 the radius of the circle. When you plug in the numbers, you get 1 Mil=100m/1000, simplified to 1 Mil=0.1m, or 1 Mil = 10cm.

  • @johnx9318

    @johnx9318

    norcofreerider604 You should drop the use of the unit centimetres, they cause confusion and errors. Using millimetres, 1millRad is 100mm at 100 metres. 1000mm at 1000 metres. A simple 1000/1 ratio that is precise and simple at any distance. To turn mm into cm, take off one zero. To turn it into metres, take off three zeros.

    Great video. Any chance you would cover mil scope adjustments in more detail? Like why are they better? ( I like iron sights but do own one fixed scope and kind of considering a variable scope ) What about thinking in centimeters is easier than thinking in inches? (besides there are no fractions just orders of magnitudes.)

    I am purchasing a Tikka 223 T3 lite for fox hunting in Oz. I am a whistler so can get running foxes coming in fast within 75m, but also want to be able to ping a fox that stops around 300m out. I am using a ATN X-Sight for night shooting, but need a day scope. I believe I need good field of view, so 2-7 x or a 3-9x would be enough for the close shots and all good for longer ranges. I like the duplex reticle, and wont be doing much dialing in if I can help it, rather holding . but I can see at the longer ranges having graduations Mils or MOA sounds useful. I dont think we have much of a light issue in Australia. I want to mount using quick release ( Leopold? mounts so that I can switch to the night scope. What would your recommendation in scope specifications be? thankyou

    Greetings Lady D.... Update on my mistake. I purchased a RPR in 6.5 Creedmoor last June 2016. I needed a scope on her (Marilyn), so i had enough funds to buy/chose a Vortex Crossfire 2 in 6-24x50mm BDC(my mistake/FANTASTIC scope btw). Ya, the salesman called me an idiot in his demean-er when he asked what rifle i was going to mount it on. I took Marilyn out to my range, with the Vortex Crossfire perfectly mounted. I did the barrel break in thing(Hornady factory 129grn SST Superformance) - 5 shots/clean - 5 shots/clean - 10 shots/clean, all the while Zeroing my scope. I then put 10 shots into a 1.290inches at 108yrds(club range, 2 shots slightly pulled a 1/4" off group, or I would have had 10@ sub MOA ). Its now March 2017, and finally made a perfect decision, and bought another FANTASTIC Vortex scope through Cabelas here. This is going to be the 'White Dress' on Marilyn(LOL) its the Vortex Viper HS LR XLR 6-24x50mm. I should have it delivered either tomorrow or Saturday. Needless to say, I'm very excited(and broke). My head is still swirling from looking at videos, different scope types/reviews, and reticles. I cant wait to mount this Vortex Viper on my Ruger Precision Rifle, and try it during the clubs PRS Matches this summer. The good thing is, I will now be the proud owner of two Vortex scopes, albeit the Crossfire will need a new rifle some day....Hmmm I'm thinking a another Ruger in 6mm Creedmoor ?? Shhhh... Cheers and Blessings Lady D, All the best, and will update you down the road on PRS match results.... Stay Sharp :)

    Loved the Video. I used to shoot with Luopolds and Nikons. I purchased my first Vortex scope abut 2 yrs ago. Since then I have purchased 5 vortex scopes. I am beginning to get into the long range shooting. I Have one Viper 6.5-20x44, 2 CROSSFIRE 11 6-24X50, One 6-18x44 CROSSFIRE 11 w/ANOTHER ONE COMING IN MAIL. I am a retired US ARMY/ARKANSAS DEPT OF CORRECTIONS. I work volunteer on a rifle range as a weapon instructor and Safety Officer. I have advised all my customers to buy Vortex Scopes. I really love the quality of Vortex Scopes. I am beginning to get into long distance shooting with AR15 rifles. I am taking out golf balls at 300 yds. I am going to increase my distances golf ball distance further out. Which scope for around $500.00 price range, Would you recommend?

    Hi Des good to see a vid from you all. Very professional looking quality. Thank you for bringing Vortex to the forefront. I need two for long range and one for an AR red dot just for fun. So many scope ads fail to mention the type of focal plane a scope has and that is very frustrating. Your great work will help to get them up to snuff. I hope the days of mismatched measurements are over. That is reticle in Mills and turrets in MOA. I came across a reference for those: 1 MOA = 0.28 Mills & 1 Mill = 3.6 MOA A matched set within the advertisement should be mentioned. There also are not to many fixed as compared to variable scope apparently. Can't wait to see more.

    Wether you are getting a scope for self defense or hunting I believe; that a scope that is something like a IR with say a 2.5×10×50 is best. Because with 2.5 or 3 you can engage targets easily at 20 yards, then with 10× you can engage targets out to 1000 yards ( which is the most powerful scope that hathcock used for 1000 yard shot). 50 or better to let lots of light in. Along with a IR , preferably one that doesn't use batteries that need replacement or that will fail when needed most. Because most bad guys and animals to be hunted come out at dusk / dark / dawn. So a reticle that doesn't let alot of light in is awful. and black cross hairs on a dark or black target is impossible to see. So a IR is very important , after all game and bad guys tend to happen at dusk / dark / dawn.

    Vortex is serious about customer service. Best part is when you call the customer service number a real person, in America, answers the phone. No automated message saying to press 1 for English and you don't have to work down through lots of layers of messages. A person answers the phone and will talk to you like a good friend. Also, email inquiries are answered promptly. I've spoken with both Travis and Jimmy at Vortex and they always provided exceptional service. I'll always buy Vortex optics.

    Justin Phillips my understanding is it is unconditional and not limited to the original owner. Only time heard talk of a reciept is if someone wanted a refund instead or repair or replacement.

    go to a store at dusk an ask to try out scopes. you'll see some are pitch black to look through. some are clear as a bell. try a IR and you'll see the difference between putting the cross hairs on a dark object with black cross hairs.

    Good to see you back! Also, good to see you still blasting away with the Beretta ARX. How's it working out? What's the round count, so far?

    +SP D Good to be back! The ARX is still running like a champ. I think I'm around the 1k round count with it, and don't think I've cleaned it but once.

    This is good! I am curious on how carbon filled it has to be before it stops working? Is this just a test piece or is this going to be your go to rifle, when all is said and done?
