Small doors are no joke! I have 2 cages that have smaller openings and don't open the whole front, and cleaning anything is so difficult!! You'd think that cleaning the much larger double critter nation would be harder, but it's not. I can reach everything easily, and put things back in easily. The smaller one i have bruised my shoulder before struggling with hammocks. Critter nation, or other cages that open the front completely I would 100% reccomend.

I really want to thank you! I asked last week how to make my CN in this horizontal configuration. Not only did it save me a ton of space in my bedroom by being able to fit the CN in my closet, but the rats LOVE the new layout. All of them have just flourished with the new running and playing room and I see a noticeably more cohesive mischief. Even one of my rats who never comes out willingly to say hi, comes out now! Thank you!!!

The Critter Nation cages are really the best if you can afford them. I used some of my stimulus money to upgrade my boys to a double CN, unfortunately Amazon sent me a ferret nation instead of the one I ordered. Worked fine for four big boys but before I get baby rats again I'm going to have to hardware cloth the entire thing. Its super easy to access it for cleaning though, and I like that the Critter Nations are modular so you can arrange them how you like. I'd like to do a horizontal layout with mine sometime when I have something to set it on.

I, too, bought a Critter Nation, Model 162, for my degus, about a month ago, and they love it. It's spacious, has proper air-circulation, and it's tall enough for them to climb and jump around. I also have a giant 12" wheel in there for them to exercise on and rat balls so that they can run around the house and not be cooped up. When I first got them, I purchased the wrong type of habitat because I listened to the pet stores without doing research first. Pet stores will try to sell you anything. My advice for people wanting pet rats, chinchillas, or degus is to do your research first to avoid purchasing the wrong items for your pets.

my cage is very similar to this one 6:01 , but i've just noticed that the bar spacing is 2 cm, which is more than 1/2 inch..... but i guess to me it's ok because my rat girlies are big, plus they don't try to escape and get away through these bars. they only put their heads through the bars sometimes and stare cutely/omniously, but they do that for attention.😂 also it's kinda convenient, because it's very easy to pet them through these bars and to feed them snacks.

First off... Great video!!! I got about 5 wire type cages. I wasn't happy with the size of them, even though some are bigger then the others so I built my Boyz and Girlz their own cages. The Girlz cage is roughly 12ftx5ftx8ft tall. The Girlz where here before the boyz, then I got 4 "Girlz" but two were Boyz. The Boyz cage is 8x5x8ft tall. I used wood but like you said it soaks up everything. So I covered all the wood with tile. I'm a floor guy so that helped me out. Free tile here free tile there💗🐀💙🐁

My cage is the midwest critter nation - its a triple since it includes 3 units attached (you can attach as many units as desired, which is one benefit of this cage style), and I also bought metal custom pans from the website bass equipment. The critter nation is an amazing rat cage and the only flaw (imo) is that the base pan is plastic - it has a metal grate under it so rats can't escape even if they chew the pan, but to get around any mess or chewing I got 3 inch deep the stainless steel bass pans and that's made for a good setup that I've had for several years now.

Hi I got a new baby rat for my older rat who has never had a rat friend. And because the new rat has never been alone without any other rat my mom is trying to speed up the process of introducing them. Which I kinda think is wrong and might stress out both rats. So I wanted to ask if we would speed up the process of introducing them because baby rat is alone or would we stress them out by doing that? Thank you for your opinion

Not Shadow but it's very important for young rats to have same age cagemates until they're at least 18 to 20 weeks ok, and also be at least half or 2/3rds the size of the older rat to avoid unintentional injury due to the size differences. Would it be possible to get at least 1 more younger rat? While 2 is also the minimum number of rats, having at least 3 or more is best Also it's important to not rush intros as they need to be fully bonded and not be showing any signs of stress or aggression before being put into the main cage. This process can take weeks when done properly.

I agree with Valenminwe, you really want to have rats of similar age. I have some older boys and want to get some babies later this year. To do so, I am also looking for boys in the middle age range to bridge the age gap. It's all down to temperament of individuals, but they should be fine by themselves for a week or two to get used to the new space and smells. The carry case introduction method is, in my experience, the best way to do that. I was once advised to do the introduction in the main cage and it was a terrible idea.

I have a pair of 'girlratties'. One of them- Esmerelda- has permanently vacated the cage and has constructed 'ratcity' underneath my bed. I call it 'ratcity' because it is the mother of all ratnests, carefully constructed from kitchen roll, old college papers and pages she naughtily ripped out of my magazines. The other one- Cuddles- is happy to sleep and rest inside the cage. Esmerelda has been sleeping under my bed- with a huge stash of hoarded food- for a good few months, to date. I'm OK with this arrangement, and I do not attempt to coax Esmerelda back into the cage: you see, Esmerelda, who is twice the weight of Cuddles, loves to hoard all the food. And I mean ALL the food- including the food meant for Cuddles. There's more than plenty of food for them both, yet Esmerelda takes the food from Cuddles, if I give her free reign to do so. Now that Cuddles is separated from Esmerelda during the daytime, she can eat her food in peace without Esmerelda coming along and taking it for hoarding! As evening comes and both of them rise from their slumber (being the naturally nocturnal creatures they are), I let Cuddles out of the cage for a few hours so that she and Esmerelda can play/interact with each other and wreak havoc upon my poor houseplants in my bedroom.
