5 Things Not To Say To Someone With Depression

Today’s video will discuss 5 things not to say to someone with depression.
Sometimes when we find ourselves in a situation where someone is looking to us for support, we end up saying things more out of our own discomfort with the topic or situation vs. saying something that is actually helpful sometimes.
Take a quick listen to this video, for some common phrases or pieces of advice that I commonly hear being told to people who are suffering from depression. Hopefully this video will give you a different viewpoint on how these phrases might be interpreted if you were suffering from depression and on the receiving end of these comments.
The purpose of this video is not to make you anxious about every word or phrase choice when you’re trying to be there. Ultimately being there for someone, listening, being empathetic, and encouraging them to seek appropriate professional help are really the best things one can do.
Thank you for your support and encouragement as always.

2 months ago I was diagnosed of MDD when i will tell to my friends and relatives that i was having depression they always telling me that "you will be the one who can treat yourself"...."its just only in your mind"...."why you overthink"....thats why i distance myself to those people who are like that to me and with that i just isolate myself because if i will tell them what i feel they will just tell that words and i will start to feel angry and i feel no one will understand me and my situation so i want to be alone....i was taking my anti depressant medication and sleeping pill for almost 2 months now and still i dont feel im ok and i cant even smile im always feeling sad and having mood swing....thats why i dobt want talk to anybody maybe i will just be rude to them if i will hear words that i dont want to hear.....better be alone

I can't tell you how many times I've been told that I have it better than most people in the world, even in Canada, but I lost my husband 2 years ago and have a nasty, rare genetic disorder, and a few others, amongst the usual aches and pains. How I would love my friends to visit. I'm 48 but rarely talk to anyone except MDs. Money can't buy you love or health.

The hardest part also is when people look at you as if you are crazy and even if your family MD does not understand your situation . Sometimes you just don’t know and understand your own self.why you are sad etc. Thank you for this Dr. Kim

“Shut the hell up!” 😂 Lol! But in all seriousness I did appreciate that you mentioned people may need different treatment options. Depression and anxiety run In my husband’s family and they all treat it differently. So ive learned over MANY years to just support my husband and allow him to do what he feel comfortable with and share what i learn here of course! ☺️

The newest studies say they are not much better than a placebo .they also have serious, serious life changing side effects and are very difficult to come off of. They may even cause brain damage. Doctors do not even understand how they work or if they work. They put people on them for decades and told us that they increased serotonin now they tell ooops not true 😂
