One more really helpful tip, you don't have to wire up your microcontrollers in place. Wire them up outside your build then cut/paste/merge them where they belong after.

That's a great one! I forgot to mention that one :)
for everyone here who's new at stormworks It takes time and dedication to play this game I got over 3 years of experience and 400+ hours and I still can barely make a working engine

It certainly takes time and patience! But just like other hobbies (painting, robotics, etc.) it takes time but is worth it
Recently got back into SW around 180 hours now, I can't thank you enough for these guides and tutorials. I spend probably 2 hours browsing forums for an up to date answer ( Mainly Reddit tbf ) and then I watch one video you make about the topic and i'm up to speed after 10 min. Amazing Work!
I have 350 hours. Good notes.

You have my blessing, dear child.
I made a working modular engine and micro controller thanks to your videos. Took me until 1:30am and i was 8 beers in but man it was so worth it when i got it working. I would say dont get ahead of yourself in this game. Dont think tonight ill build a full ship. Think tonight ill work on the fuel tank, or a working door 😊 ect. So rewarding though
As a Bachelor's of Nursing, the coding part has always been a huge headache for me. The chat GPT for LUA is such a good idea! Thank you
That ChatGTP idea is really neat. I'm 'only' 300 hours in but that's something to look into. Also what I did right from the start and don't see in many videos is color coding my pipes, yellow for fuel for example, light blue for coolant, red for 'hot' coolant etc..
I'm glad I found this video as I've been thinking about buying Stormworks and giving it a try, but I had no idea it could get this complicated, so I know now that I would probably not find much enjoyment in it. Thanks!
I am probably going to watch all of your videos again when I get back into Stormworks. For now, this video got you a subscriber :D
I started playing back in 2018 when it was realeased Playing on and off I have learnt a lot of these tips and now can make huge ships and planes I still have no idea how half of the stuff works (Specifically lua)
Hey man! Just stumnled across this video and decided to give it a watch, i didnt even know that you were the creator of this craft! Its one of my most used crfats hopefully you can be coming out with some even better ones real soon!
Good video i tink I am closse to 1000 h on stormworks and you help me alot tanks always something to lurn

only thing i would suggest as a change, make a central relay for any subgrids like cranes. that way if your rewiring if up after pasting in you only need to grab one node and the rest is powered
Lua is very popular and simple scripting language, its very useful like for Stormworks making screens do something, in Scrap Mechanic for modding it and for Roblox for scripting parts and game.
Love to hear Tekla get a mention. I'm an S-Frame user these days.
1070 hours, good advice. If you play survival, I recommend the controller sheet in a compartment that is less prone to damage, as-well as the ability to reach them and fix them with a welding torch, would have saved tons of missions I’ve failed. Another tip is to learn tricks like multi vent Jets to get more power and efficiency. I’m diving into modular engines to produce more power but I am stumped, as with jet engines they don’t account when you make multiple exhaust with the T pieces and angle pieces ect, so you can make a hyper powerful jet or generator, wile using the same fuel as just one jet engine.

I stumbled onto that bug a long time ago while messing around. It's all I use when I need anything that isn't ultra long duration
For code, have you considered using subversion or git for version control? Good recommendation for using Chat with modding. Maybe not enterprise applications, but video game modding is a PERFECT application for AI-assisted coding.
The one thing I wish I knew before buying the game was how complex it was to make anything. Seriously its not user friendly. It takes time to figure out all the UI and mechanics but building itself is not something you can just jump into.
I am not a computer guy. I barely use a cell phone. But I love video games 😊
I have a hard time with scale and if I can't really judge a scale, do you think it's better to assume your build is too small or too big? With too small you might end up with a lot of empty space and not fit the hangar, but with too big you might not have enough space for the stuff you need, so which is better if getting it just right is not achievable?
@cptunderpantz9273
Жыл бұрын
There is a setting to show the hangar (or boat ramp) while you are building so you're not just floating in a void.
You have zen times my time in thos game. Impressive
I actually have an airliner 60 present complete with a system that no one have made yet and also a lot of complex electronics and all the microcontrollers and scripts were made by me which I am kinda proud of

I learned lua by myself in Roblox But lua is rarely used in many places so I always found it useless in terms of career
im trying to learn how to program things in stormworks like missiles or ballast systems or anything in general, but i never under stood how i can relate things like vectors or readings from a sensor or even how i can get a fluid in a tank to stay at a certain level, do you know any good books or topics that i can learn to help me understand the programing in stormworks? i like learning the general topic first before reverse engineering stuff in the workshop, makes it so much easier

I got sw way back and I got pretty good at building until all the game changes came around, I still don’t understand modular engines
Are your Microcontrollers available to use on my own creations?
im up to 800 hours learrnt all the keys then forgot them but design aesthetics means the most to me now hate a blocky square build when it takes a few extra mins to round if off too make it look better,, had the game since day 1 but have done batrey to b then a as hot
Spiderweb of eletric headaches.
I learned without help, except for stabilizing a ship, im doing pretty good otherwise though
so the trick for electrical nodes is just connecting everything directly to the breaker

and just a little question is lua coding needed? i dont want to learn how to code, i simply want to build boats
@thegamingpanther3543

No, most of the lua coding is just for making complex things like touchscreens and stuff or even prediction calculations for missiles and guns with the weapons DLC. You can make a boat without coding knowledge at all.
I have 2,600 hours and I didn’t know half of these
Man, I really like this game but it's just too much :( I already have a full-time job and a family with 2 kids. Simply don't have time to learn all of this just to play a game where I'm supposed to be relaxing. I work in IT and am learning everyday... just don't have the bandwidth for this.
When you mentioned your anchor system, you said you had to input the depth? Quite some time ago I created a really simple 1-button anchor system that you might be interested in. I'll make a quick video and put it in my Stormworks section. Happy building! Here's a link, if you're interested... kzread.info/dash/bejne/m3-Ms5t_oKfUYrA.html
Do you have to know coding?
I got a thousand hours in the game also have never touched nuclear and steam engines although nuclear engines are steam engines technicaly
'wish I knew when I started' I feel like this is 'wish i knew when I was at 1,000 ours'
Honestly I know only how to make steam engine and basic ruders etc. I don`t know how to reverse tho, so its full ahed, and thats all.
Who is this Mr in Jersey you want to be
Lol, i know how steam entines and nuclear reactors work irl, and i think i could build one of each with all the materials in real life, i think i couldnt in stormworks. I dont have it btw lol
I got 2700 hours on GTA online and i feel like thats a lot
I got banned from the stormworks discord server for posting a picture of adolf hipster in the yolocaust, anyways can you share the keybinds list?
Tip number 6: if your not an engineer than its gona be almost impossible to build stuff cus theres barely any tutorials, speaking from my own experience.

Was thinking about buying stormworks and this video just confused me
No god no. Chat gpt isnt the best to write code in lua. Its hella cluttered and takes up much more space then you need. And it tends to make a lot of critical mistakes. Also longer lua code slows down your game. The way it writes it will confuse beginners and will make them struggle. First learn and understand the basics of sw lua then consider chat gpt. Even then you can write much shorter and better.
@chalkopirate

As someone who repeatedly tried and failed to learn the lua code I can say that any lua code is better than the no lua code I can produce
this game was awesome until it came time to get working electronics for my creations, would have never bought the game and dlcs had i known it was like that. 100% needlessly overcomplicated. Stop playing due to the need of college level math courses to have basic functionality in the game.
