Sir, you are the only one I've seen anywhere who gave an honest assessment on the handling. I bought a 2019 Ryker Rally, and that front end was horrible! Severe swaying, darting back and forth, felt crappy in turns. I live in the mountains of North Carolina and everything is curves here. It was so bad I could barely break 60 mph. Got so fed up, I sold it and went back to a motorcycle. That sway bar, if it helps, should be stock on those machines. Out of the box, terrible. Thank you for your honest review sir.

Wheel alinement is very critical on these 3 wheelers. The sway bar up grade is a nice upgrade for sure. 😉 I have a 2021 F-3S Spyder. I sold high end luxury cars for 20 years, not a fan of CVT either, In cars no thank you. Love the 6 speed transmission in my Spyder but wish it had the shaft drive like the Ryker. 😉

I just brought mine home. First Ryker. I noticed it felt a little strange on the test ride, but from what I've read it's because I'm coming from two wheels. That and they aren't really designed to hit those kinds of speeds. I may add the sway bar like others have suggested.

Wow, 30 mpg is horrible! My wife had a Nissan Sentra SR Turbo which has the cvt, and that averaged 32.4 mpg. She commuted 38 miles to work, there and back 76 of which about 24 was "city" driving. I am thinking of selling my Moto Guzzi 1200 Breva (which gives me 52 mpg on the open road) for a Can-Am - however after speaking to the sales rep today, who told me it has ONE forward gear. I asked him if it has a CVT - his response was YES, but he did not tell me off-hand as I suspect they KNOW if people know it, they may not buy it! We did not have issues with the Nissan, but sold it before it got to 40k miles, apparently the BEST time to sell vehicles with CVT's in them. Thanks for sharing - looked at a few "reviews", but by far yours is the best so far!

The Nissan from the past 5 years have had CVT issues right at around 80k to 100k miles. Some people swear that the Can Am cvts are great as they are tired and tested in their other products. Only time will tell how it fares on a Ryker as the other products aren't ridden as much.

That's cool. Being that the Ryker is so much lighter, mine darts from left to right prior to the swaybar, we have a lot of semis on the roads here and it can get windy. But glad to hear your Ryker doesnt do that.

I agree with you about the bags for the back. I was going to buy the passenger seat because it made the bike look nice. I probably wouldnt have a passenger, so thats why i decided against it, but the main reason was what you mentioned.. you cant lock it. For 287.00 bucks and anyone can just unlock it and have a passenger seat. Im going to get the touring nelson rigg bag . At least i can unbuckle it and take it with me. Great videos. Keep em coming!

First, I have owned mine for a very short time but two things I noticed right out of the gate are: A. I think it revs quite high for an 80 hp engine. It should have the power to pull the vehicle at a lower rpm. B. The rear suspension does not take bumps, potholes or manholes gracefully. As far as "why did they use a belt drive system"? It was adapted from their snowmobile line. I think there should have been a reduction gear somewhere in the drive line to bring the revs down a bit hence better gas mileage and less engine whine.

"SAME." with a lot of the this.. My dude had 24 hours with mine after I bought it, went to pick it up and it was covered in water spots and dusty crap when he was trying to send me off with it 😅. I was like "Bro.. can I get like a wipe down, dude..?" But HEY.. he atleast used a spray when he did mine, 😆. I've definitely learned that once they get your money you're not exactly in their MySpace Top Ten Friends List anymore.. especially in the service department.. 😪 GREAT VID! Dealers-Luck of the draw unfortunately, I have a decent dealer in IL, I always search for platinum dealers (Can-Am grades their dealers) Trans-On the CVT subject, this Trans is straight out of a high performance UTV/Snowmobile, so its a little different than a Nissan Sentra, but I do get what you're saying. The belt inside is from a Ski-Doo 850 (165 horsepower), so it's definitely sturdy enough. Rust-When I dropped mine off at the dealer last week, I mentioned the rusty wheel hubs, BRP did approve a repair for that. I also have rust in the same parts that you mentioned. Disappointing but kinda par for the course for the price it seems. Accessories-Definitely sucks to not have a lock. The only accessory to lock is the Shad case. Have to really trust that nobody will touch your ride..Yes you can lock your frunk + parking brake but still can lose the rear luggage.. Handling-I can't wait to replace my sway bar, I must be crazy going 12k without touching that. I'm going with Baja Ron setup to avoid the dealer. I bet they will stiffen up the sway bar in future generations, that was another cost cutting measure putting those flimsy plastic links in there. The plastic literally flexes.

I've a 2020 Ryker Rallye Rt. It came with an sway bar because I viewed your video prior to purchase. i negotiated with the dealer on the sale price to have it included with a some leeway on the price and installation. I made sure I ordered a cover for it when it isn.t garaged at home and that has minimized the exposure when i am not home and it has to be left outside. I concur with you about dealerships and that many of them want the sales and service but are not great on after sales/service etiquette, The meaning of Ryker in its Germanic origins is "rich". I feel enriched for owning one and the flexibility it affords me it customizing it and making it uniquely my own

First, I thought he was gonna run that stop sign and we were gonna have a really short video. Next, dealer network, ha! The guy in the next big town over (30,000 or so) who sells mostly UTVs, The 4-wheeled sort, ordered one of these and sold it to somebody who had never been on a bike. Said buyer owned it for about 6 months, decided that even adding an extra wheel, he wasn't going ever be a biker, so, I got a bike with less than 1000 miles on it for a steal. My "service manager" who I think probably spends a lot of time washing cow shit off UTV's, looks at my UTV (which is a missing a wheel as it should have 4) and just shakes his head. I am with you on that transmission thing, who rides a bike with no Vrooom, Vrooom. I fired up my Rykker for the first time in that buy who owned it for only 6 months front yard, and nearly killed myself when I gunned the throttle. At least, needs a neutral. I bought my Rykker to get better gas mileage than my Tacoma, and it does, just, beats my Tacoma by about 5 mpg. Ohhhh, the lack of a, well, anything to bolt a bag to, that is crazy. And well, $300 to add that bit? My 1974 Honda CMT 185 came stock with a rear rack, come on. Hmmm, sway bar? I was going down a really old two lane blacktop and found a truck rut at about 60, nearly had to wash the crap off my bike.

For #1 I think the dealer/service sucks everywhere. I called for a simple bolt removal, and it was almost a month out. Too few service centers. As far as financing, that is probably a dealer by dealer issue. The off center issue YES! Had to take mine in within a week for this (took a hard turn and went 30 degrees off center). The sales reps definitely don't know what the bike can/can't do. For #2 the transmission doesn't down shift, so typically if over 50 MPH I am at 6K+ RPM (this is not a CVT issue, it is a tuning issue - I have CVT in 2 Nissans as well, that do just fine). I get about 32 MPG. Point #3 you made YES! Mainly the squeaky breaks for me (only had 3 weeks now, a 2022). #4, they need way more accessories, and way cheaper. #5 At least for my 2022, the handling feels fine (I am a previous motorcycle rider). Granted I also live in the middle of the country so not a lot of turns. The darting issue, I have noticed when there are grooves in the road.

I had the same sort of issues/experiences with my RT LTd. purchase - must be a common thing between BRP dealerships - how they treat people that is. In other words, considering how much you pay for the trike, parts and service, the very poor way they treat you AFTER the sale, I regret having made the purchase. I do love the trike, but I try and avoid having any work done at a BRP dealer.

CVT transmissions are suited and fitted to smaller low powered cars and not performance sport cars, turbo cars or V8s because they can’t handle the higher power of these cars, this is not to say there is anything wrong with their operation, they are also much cheaper to produce and install into a car or bike than a conventional auto transmission or a manual transmission and they are much lighter, the reason I believe the CVT was used in the Ryker was for its simplicity and ease of use making the bike rideable by virtually anyone and to keep the price of the bike to a minimum, apparently Can Am have many years of experience with these transmissions in other types of vehicles therefore I wouldn’t be too concerned about it’s lifespan.

The CVT Transmission is a V-belt and a set of clutches. It is the same thing they have been putting in Snow machines since the beginning. They are in almost every OHV product on the market today. As long as you break it in properly you should not have any issues with it. As far as the handling of the bike. Did you do any shock adjustment to set the bike up for your weight and personal riding preferences? The Rally edition has a ton of adjustment to cater to the rider. Proper tire pressure Front and Rear and the road condition is a major factor on it drifting or dodging left to right. By taking both our bikes to an actual tire shop to have the wheels and tires Spin Balanced we found that NOT ONE of them were even close from the factory!! Talk about getting rid of a lot of vibration and the feeling that someone was dribbling the front tires at anything over 40mph like basketballs. Lol

  • @RideAboutNow

    @RideAboutNow

    3 жыл бұрын

Wow I had no vibration or dribbling issues with my tires Thankfully. My issue was the soft front suspension at higher speeds that was corrected with a stiffer sway bar. Other than that the suspension seemed very comfortable to me, took a trip to Miami in it and it was perfect.

They should have made a single gear change for overdrive after the cvt would have made a huge difference in gas economy. Keep the cvt just add an overdrive gear for the highway speeds is all they needed. I wouldn't mind shifting at 40mph it would be an easy shift to add. They definitely need to look into that!!!

Sanded the paint and it still wouldn’t fit. Used a file to work it down more but still only 2 bolt holes lined up. Called the service center this time and they said the max mount has to be in the bike for it to fit. I asked how this hole was gonna magically get bigger once I put the mount back. I ended up having to drive the peg into the max mount with a hammer to get all 3 holes semi lined up

I don't own a Ryker and I've never ridden one. I've ridden a Spyder and I liked it. I notice in this video you have removed the camera on the left handle bar and the view from the mirror must be better. I recall on a previous video you talked about safety gear which I always think is important. Now I know the Ryker is a 3 wheeler that in theory should never tip over but reality is different and I don't want to be the safety police but other people are watching your videos and taking some cues from you. So you're out riding in a T shirt, shorts and no gloves - always consider your audience and what impact your actions might have. Everyone who rides is responsible for their own safety but your videos have an impact on others.

If you don't read, or take the time to read or can't understand a contract, or anything legal for that matter, you shouldn't be signing anything period/have zero business actually being called an responsible adult and have absolutely no one to blame but yourself. Listening to a salesperson is one thing. Signing something else after the fact is where responsibility and owning the moment comes into play. I don't care what kind of loan or contract you signed. Best thing always, whether you are bright or not, is to be in a no pressure scenario. Don't let anyone pressure you ever into signing anything before you are ready, and more importantly, bring someone experienced and possibly brighter to the table with you before signing anything. Simply put, these "bikes" are cheap, cheap quality and designed dumb-downed for the average no experience person operating a motor cycle person to afford and operate; period. A light weight, disposable toy like this vehicle, that really requires zero skill to operate, hence the ease of a cvt transmissions and the lack of refinement and upgrades built in or included. As an experienced, responsible operator, you have to have the brains to know what the limits are on this beginner motor vehicle, and add what you need, when you can afford to upgrade and tighten it up for stability and for performance/safety at speed. Few people would ever buy this if it were expensive. Every accessory is expensive with anything, esp. with the limited number of accessories and tbe aftermarket companies that make them for these units. Hard to really complain about that when just about anything you buy or purchase now a days is more than just a small purchase for the average working person. Never, ever leave anthing of value or anything you don't want removed on something as open and inviting as a bike or one of these. Guranteed to be gone, locked or bolted on. Shouldn't be complaining about gas mileage when you drive like that, or talk about higher speed riding in an exposed, non-streamlined vehicle. It should always be about tbe fun and enjoyment unless you are touring out in tbe middle of nowhere and have a peanut sized tank. If you can't afford gas for great mileage like that, driven like that, you shouldn't be operating or making payments on a "fun" recreational vehicle like that. Gas is so cheap here compared to just about every country. I have never gotten milage like that on any of tbe dozens of fun and fast vehicles I have ever owned, or any if my other vehicles for that matter unless I was coasting downhill, other than my 50 two stroke back in the day. And for goodness sakes, though you wear them on orher videos you do, be a responsible role model and put on some damn gloves. It only takes a split second for something terribly wrong to happen, and not wearing true p.p.e.is all,on you as an operator. Stay smart and safe, everyone. Whatever it is or whatever it is you do, don't become a victim of your own niavety, or stupidity. You'll only gave yourself to blame in the end..

What do you mean you're locked in with one dealer for service? Never locked in. You can get service at any Can-Am dealer under warranty and BEST. As far as rust goes, just clean and wipe with oil or wax, it won't rust if you take care of it. Highway sway is usually a tire pressure and/or alignment issue. Check those things before throwing money at a sway bar and end links.

Let's be truthful. For so many rykers to have the handling issues, the company should have jumped on it right away and upgraded the sway bar...you can even see the in the videos that the bike darts all over.. People can say over and over that they are $5000 cheaper than the spyder, there's a good reason for that. There cheaply produced, no way they will be holding up well with 40 or 50 thousand miles

True that Rick. A sway bar from factory would have been much cheaper. I paid more in labor than what the swaybar costed.

You are basically riding a snowmobile with wheels on it. Bombardier and Ski-doo have been using CVT's forever in their snowmobiles. With proper maintenance that CVT will last forever.

That is great news. Time will tell on the CVT longevity. I know that typically you will put more miles down on a motorcycle vs snowmobiles and ski doos but I am sure Can Am have done their testing as well. It's just an u known right now as we don't have enough data on it for a Ryker.

  • @RideAboutNow

CVT trans are not generally meant for sportiness, at least in cars. I mentioned if anyone has more experience on CVTs in Can Am products feel free to leave your comments on it. A conventional gearbox would have been better but no motorcycle is perfect. Having said all of that the Ryker is definitely a fun machine.

@@RideAboutNow Is it because it's a better bike all around? Here in Germany (and I assume elsewhere too) the price of used vehicles is almost as much as brand new. @@brentgath4447 the 2022 ryker rally has some options that the older ones didn't and if you want to stick to a rally I would go for a 2022 or higher. Yes same here as well on prices. If you can't fi d a good used one I would spend a bit more and get a new one. If you like the Ryker then the F3 Spyder is worth a look. More comfortable bigger engine and more amenities.

Alignment is fine. The bike is light and needs a firmer front to avoid darting left to right. Once I installed a stiffer sway bar that issue is no longer there anymore.
