As a Brazilian, it seems like we are more open to foreign culture and things from the US than the rest of Latin America. Also learning English is like a "must" here and most families place a high importance on learning it.

That's very interesting! English was starting to become a bit more porminent thing to learn in my city, but I feel like it's also very tied to the socio-economic status of families and things like that. I've never been to Brazil, hoping to go sooner rather than later!

@@sabrinahuyke Since you're not a digital nomad, what kind of work do you do besides the youtube channel? I'll be doing digital nomad type of work when I move there.

Chilean here to confirm if this is true or not. I'll address each point. #1: Yes, if you have a bad relationship with a family member this can be really bad. Outcasting family members no matter how bad they are is seen as a big no-no. #2: I don't think this is true at all and you have been surrounded by people who suck. #3: Aboslutely, 100% true. #4: Okay, true, but unlike what you think, this is not a bad thing, you see, you gotta understand latin america is an extremely unequal region with very little education and most parents from previous generations know what shitty work and poverty looks like, and they don't want their kids to go through the same 6 to 9 minimum wage jobs with abusive bosses that most latin americans from previous generations are accustomed to. You don't want your kid to pursue an art career when you know perfectly that artists can't even afford their own food and end up on the street, it's a literal gamble to pursue it, doesn't make sense. Achieving success in art careers in latin america is unbelievably fucking hard. Now that doesn't mean they shouldn't pursue it, but if you can't even pay bread with it what's the point, would much rather stay alive and financially safe and then practice art in my free time, sadly in Latin America things don't work like in the US. #5: Personally I haven't really seen this... anywhere. I've been to Argentina and Perú and lived in Chile all my life and I have yet to see a single latin american (that isn't a right wing extremist) that actively hates other cultures, so I'd say this is a 50/50 depending on who you surround yourself with and based on experience rather than fact.

I appreciate the very detailed response 😂 So I will do the same: #2: You are right, maybe I did grow up surrounded by people who suck, but I would say this can be a very common experience as well. #4: I know that pursuing an art career is hard, but my perspective came more from the fact that it's a lot easier to accomplish and actually make a living out of it if you have your family's support than their judgement. While Latin America might not be the US, I do feel like the modern age has provided artists with a lot more tools to find their own success and be financially stable. But you are right that if that doesn't work they should try to pivot because everyone needs to be able to live life and for that you need money. I guess that I understand your point but I also feel like if you had the right support having an artistic career is not as hard as it used to be. #5: Maybe I didn't express myself correctly, but rather than "hate other cultures" is that they don't want to integrate other cultures with their own. Maybe they don't actively hate it, but they don't adopt it either.
