Welcome to the official KZread channel of Nikol Johnson!💄
My Channel empowers women to show up, be BOLD, FIERCE, and Unapologetic. I talk a lot about this in my book Beauty Reinvented, available through Amazon! It's not just about going gray young it's about a powerful movement for women breaking out and having NO BEAUTY RULES.
➡️ None of what I show on this channel is what “mainstream” KZread makeup tutorials will show you. Instead of telling you to put loads of makeup on (that makes you look like a different person), I want to show you how to “reveal” the beauty that you already have and teach you how to look GREAT- while still looking like YOURSELF.
As the years go by, many women feel that their beauty and radiance go by too. I don’t believe this. I believe you can stay beautiful, confident, and feel fabulous even if you’re past 40, 70, 80, or 100 years of age.
➡️ No matter your background or your age, my goal is to help you on your journey. Whether through make-up/skin-care tutorials, product reviews, or health/wellness advice. I want to empower (and teach) women to show up, be BOLD, FIERCE, and unapologetic.
Are you ready to embrace your authentic self- and start making YOUR OWN BEAUTY RULES? Subscribe to my channel NOW! 🔔
📆 I am so happy to see you each week on Mondays and Thursdays at 10 AM EST.

Every time I see a butterfly pin, I think of an elderly lady I once knew. Her signature statement piece was wearing a butterfly pin on the back of her left shoulder. It was quirky but so rememberable. She had a whole collection of them and I always looked to see what kind of butterfly pin she was wearing that day. It gave her a fun happy feel about her person.

Hello, I wanted to share my breast cancer story after seeing your brief stint on this video. I don't know the history about your journey as I do not have Instagram. My husband and I are both FP and GP physicians, respectively. However, our education and training still didn't prepare us for my journey. At 47, I found a soft lump on my upper, mid section of my right breast, almost near the ribs. Based on what we were taught, it didn't feel like breast CA. It felt like a lipoma, or that maybe I had bumped it and forgot about it because it was soft. My husband still immediately got me into and US. It was normal. This was Feb. By June, I had a PAP and was sent to my routine mammo. I told the OB NP about it, but she didn't note it on my chart, so I told the tech about it and she made sure that section was scanned. Result: Normal. July comes around and the lump was still there, if not getting slightly bigger. It started as a peanut size and was now a small almond size. Husband told me to go see a General Surgeon. She told me a persistent mass is usually biopsied, either by needle or dissection. Since I had breast aug, she said that could affect the accuracy of a needle biopsy. I decided to go for full dissection. Even after surgery, the surgeon said the tissue didn't look bad, just maybe a friboma. 2 days later and my husband said she had called him with my pathology report...breast cancer. I was in shock and denial. Immediately went to the idea of, "No, they had another patient chart with my name there that day that I saw. So, maybe they got the wrong chart." Regardless, I had to go to Oncology. I was sent for an MRI with dye. Was told there were fibrous lumps in my left breast, but that they looked fine. They suggested chemo and radiation for the right breast, but just to monitor the left breast. My oncologist told me it was up to me. Also, since I have a daugther, I wanted a BRACA gene test to see if I'm a carrier. I had to finagle my family history a bit to get that approved. Result: Negative. Still, it didn't sit right with me to be conservative in my treatment. Decided to go with a double mastectomy, with reconstruction. I didn't want to wait to see if my left breast would turn bad someday. It was a difficult decision, but I knew it was right once I made it. I tell my story as much as I can so that women have a more informed thought process. In my opinion, the only way to know if your breast lump is normal is biopsy. It sucks to have a scar, but I'd rather know the absolute truth, rather than get the scans, and then wait 6 months to recheck. Had I done that, my oncologist told me it might have spread to my lymph nodes, which I did get tested with my 2nd biopsy to fully get margins. I had Stage 2A breast CA due to the size of it. Meant more aggressive chemo, but no radiation because I had chosen the double mastectomy. I hope that helps anyone in this terribly scary journey. Please be your own advocate. Doctors don't always have the right advice or knowledge, even though we have the best intentions.

This is so timely because last weekend I went through my closet and donated 75% of my wardrobe! I was sick of all of the things you mentioned. I wear scrubs every day to work, so my closet was really lacking. I set up a pinterest board of capsule wardrobes I love. I am fashioning my closet after the French woman's basics, but I didn't know where to start. I decided to try a clothing subscription box, and it's literally lit a fire under me. This weekend, I went shopping and found a crisp white blouse and a basic blue blazer. Yippee Anywho, my signature is my full Italian lips 💋 of which I always dress in a deep pink for winter and a brighter pink for summer. I have 3 more inches of growth to be 💯 grey, silver, and stainless steel, much like your color. I'm finally coming into my own to the point where my girlfriend's husband commented how "put together" I looked when we carpooled to a graduation party together. Thank you for all of your inspiration. From one Licensed Esthetician to another...Cheers🥂 Joy

I would do a pie chart of all your activities and how you spend your time. Make sure you are building your wardrobe for your actual life (with a little indulgence toward your fantasy life). Try to think of 2-4 words that sum up your style personality. Sit down and brainstorm which basics would work best with what you already have. Basically ignore 90% of what people say you need for a capsule wardrobe. It should be very individual. Stick to colors you always get complemented on, good accompaniments for those and needed accessories. Make lists of possible outfits. What are you missing? What needs altered? Could you rework some of your older styles? Good luck.

Nikol, I love your channel so much! You remind me of my sisters. Are you sure we weren’t separated at birth?😉I’m 54 years old and learned a long time ago from my gorgeous mother things to be seen as chic and stylish. She taught my sisters and me the importance of building a classic wardrobe, to replace what might seem ‘worn-out’ to keep things fresh, and how to add simple, thoughtful things to look really put together. She taught us how to appear is social situations, how to set a table, even how to walk! (And my mom was a professional biologist!) (My mom is a true renaissance woman!) Etc..,etc… I’m grateful to the lessons my mother taught us. I’m proud of my beautiful, classic way of dressing, my classic and elegant makeup and hair. I never struggle with what to wear in any social situation. I love these topics you present to remind us there is joy in being a mature woman! ❤️

I have been trying to thin out my wardrobe. I’m making great progress. I do have too many t shirts, but we camp so I always bring extras. I really don’t have a statement piece, except my buzzed haircut. I thought I looked good but I have received a few questions about why I don’t let it grow. They were said nicely, but …. About 40 years ago, I’m 74, I loved hats. I had them in all different colors and wore them everywhere. May be I’ll look at that again. I try to age gracefully, but I have to learn not to let silly remarks knock me off track. Your site helps a lot.

I am slowly cleaning out my closet. I'd say my signature is red lip and short red nails and my jewelry which is delicate gold pieces with either pearls or gemstones. I don't like neutral colored lips because then I feel my face is all the same color.

My statement is my lipstick. I wear lots of pinks. I like light pinks but love hot pinks! It’s my Barbie look!! I have also started using a French red. I am really enjoying the red as well!

My statement pieces are my bold glasses. 2 pair of regular and a bold sunglasses paired with a bold lip. I am bald and I want people to look at my face not the shine on my head. Love the tips.

I'm a jeans girl and I love to wear t-shirts I don't know what you actually call them but they're the flowy things that you see girls sometimes wearing on the beach. I have been buying them like crazy and I guess that's my thing that I'm known for when I go out on the weekends dancing at the clubs. I always say I must have been a butterfly or a pretty bird in my past life.

I find it extremely frustrating that retailers target very young women. I love fashion BUT don’t want half a shirt, ruffle anything, tiered sundresses, Disney anything, ripped jeans etc. 63, tall with white hair I tend to gravitate towards tailored cuts or one of a kind items I find at Thrift Stores. GREAT orange dress!

Famous last words: figure out your style. I think a whole video series on this would be a great idea. Also, how to build a capsule wardrobe. I know you are big into empowerment, but I think the term is getting overused. I’ve never felt not empowered, even before it was trendy.

I have abandoned ALL synthetic fabrics and only want to wear cotton, wool, linen and silk clothing. I have edited my closet down to so few pieces and have bought a basic wardrobe with my new criteria. Also no heels. When you walk with your heels elevated, you look insecure and you are. Its painful bunions and possible ankle wobble.
