    To anybody that's saying there's no egg in southern mac n cheese... you're wrong and your families mac n cheese was sorely lacking. All cooks in my family (spread out all over GA, Fla, NC and Tn) did that, and that's the only way I knew it going back to the 60's, because my family actually cooked and didn't take shitty boxed shortcuts. Only cheese was cheddar though. All that other cheese (especially feta... like... wtf) can take a hike. Thinking about all this has me nostalgic. All the things my family did when I was young, stringing beans, shucking corn, making ice cream, eating grandma's food (and great aunts, and cousins, and family reunions)... you really don't know what you have until it's gone. And you can't go back.

    Since when are Florida, North Carolina, and Tennessee not in the south?

  • @gabrielajuarez9452

    @gabrielajuarez9452

    6 жыл бұрын

    North Carolina and Tennessee, although they had slaves, are not really culturally connected to the "true south" which is Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina. The areas are simply culturally, politically and geographically different. Florida is mostly influenced by spanish caribbean culture. North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky and others like it are part of "greater appalachia" or "the midlands". These generally include the largely white areas which once had slaves, but not all of them.

  • @chiprbob

    @chiprbob

    Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Mississippi, and Tennessee are usually considered the South while Kentucky, Virginia, Texas, Oklahoma, and Florida are often included in the South. Even West Virginia speaks a southern dialect of English. All of the states are different culturally, politically, and geographically. North Carolina is no more Appalachian than South Carolina. Both states are mostly coastal plain and piedmont with the Blue Ridge Mountains running through the western portion.

    Man, everyone’s so pressed on these dishes being prepared wrong because it’s not what they do. Well, few things: KZread is free to join. The device you're using to post your disappointed comment, most likely has a camera. And I’m sure you have access to a kitchen. So go ahead, and show us what’s up! Get down like you would for your loved ones and post them here. I’m not even being sarcastic. I’d love to see all these dishes done in different ways, and to some, the “right” way.

    Is that really how Americans make macaroni and cheese? I've always made a roux, added milk slowly (so like making a white sauce) and then added cheese to that. Once I have the cheese sauce, I added the macaroni in. This seems like almost a whole different dish.

    @@CheyenneEllzey Down South we skin our chicken and then soak it. Then we wash our hands, prep tools and the prep surface with soapy water and again with vinegar. Vinegar is a natural germ killer. Some folks do 'clean their chicken with vinegar' too before soaking it.
