Thank you! One example I can give is writing a script to alert us of an upcoming futures roll date instead of manually checking.

I love trading and have been in this space for about three years now. I currently day trade futures and it's truly a passion mine. Would you suggest that I go for a finance degree? Is it worth it?

Absolutely! You will definitely need a finance degree if you want to trade at an institutional level.

From what I've seen it really depends on the employer and the role. For example, it probably won't be as useful for more quantitative roles like a risk manager or a systematic trader but would help if you're going for an equity research or asset management type job. It would however give you a lot of the fundamental skills that I mentioned (aside from coding) but it is a huge time commitment so you'll have to assess that tradeoff yourself. Hope that helps!

In my experience, things seem to be migrating to mostly Python but I don't know too much about R so can't say for certain.

It's a good Idea to know R but it's generally used for calculations whereas Python is a very versatile language that can be used for calculations but also building models , data structures and automation. Hope this helps

I can't say for certain since I personally haven't worked in banking but given what I know about the nature of the work, I don't think its particularly necessary.

That's a tough question that I unfortunately don't have the answer to. But yes, firms will likely ask for a school transcript, especially if its your first job.

Your math skills aren't good enough to be a quant. It's possible to break into some finance roles without a degree, but you won't be a quant
