Play corporal, I'm just wondering what your take is on walking sticks or walking staffs. I'm not a professional by any means and I don't think anything I make is good quality enough to sell but I do like to tinker a little bit with walking sticks and I normally use staghorn sumac.. What is your take on this

@Crod716 polls reduce fatigue by alot, somewhere near 40% over rough terrain. Good for the back when you pack weight.

@@Crod716 - any fine-grain, light-weight wood will do - traditionally hawthorne or blackthorne were used a lot in Europe. Staghorn sumac is often crooked and quite brittle, more a light-duty wood - but interestingly it's fluorescent, under UV-light it shines yellow-greenish - did you know?
I still can hardly believe that your boy is graduating high school! I know I've said this before; but I'll say it again.... please don't ever change the ending of your posts! I honestly love watching him go across the creek , tapping the tree . It's an awesome parent/child growing up moment ❤❤❤
Is it me or is Corporals thumb always jacked up?

He swings a hammer for a living... if you see a blacksmith/blade maker without a jacked up nail bed on at least one finger, they haven't done work very long.

Hardcore Hammers Baby!!!
Over the years it has become apparent to me that all your videos adhere to the KISS principle. Thank you. 👍
I learn something every time I watch one of your videos. Thanks for the work you put in on all of them!
5 simple hacks in less than 10 minutes, the brain will remember these more readily than 50 hacks in 25-30 minutes.
Your videos are always so rich in content. Other channels make entire videos out of skills that you show incidentally on yours. They are 90% filler while you are 90% info..the other 10% being your jokes and cooking that keeps my wife entertained. ( she thinks you're a laugh riot ). Seriously though, we watch Coalcracker, Canterbury, Blackie etc but they are the dessert and your videos are always the main course. And speaking of courses, I can't wait to see what you have planned for Survival Mastery. You must be the hardest working man on KZread and the reason I maintain my membership in spite of rising prices and infuriating censorship. Thank you!
MacGyver of the woods
Ok, you got me with at empty Bic lighter hack, that was a new one on me. Great presentation!
Good demonstrations. Please keep the mid week videos coming
Congratulations to you and your son on his graduation 🎓, The long journey to independence is well on its way. Stay strong, keep the faith!!👍🙏
So simple yet so effectif and important. Thank you Sir.
Simple and to the point.
Hey been watching u for years your straight up a disciplined dude. Don't be afraid to think outside of the box with your videos and doing something new!
*GREAT Demo* knots... I dunno crap about *_knots_* But I know that it's actually crucial to HELP a person out when trying to "make it" knots are probably one of the most useful, yet generally unknown ---- areas of knowledge for camping / survival.
Fascinating fact that the housing for a lighter is in fact, itself, a flammable item. 🔥 Thanks Corporal, I learned something today.

Love your content brother bad week for me this a lot of bad memories. I'm sure you have enough you could do Deliver. I've gotta go. I've done most of your stuff. Nothing but respect. My sister was murdered this weekend. I've gotta go on deal with that. Love you brother love you content.
Another Got-R-Did video! Awesome! I wonder how many people cringed when you were scraping the tent peg and the lighter? 😂😂😂
That was really good. I'm going to show that to my 9 year old boy. Valuable knowledge ,thank you.
I loved this video. Simple and practical can be used any day of the week
😮thank you Shawn Good vidio
Great ideas! Thanks 😊
Well done. Thank you.
i remember my son mastering his knots from your channel back then.. if only i could send him to your pathfinder school.. anyways, cheers..😅👌
I would not have thought those tent stake shavings were such a good fire starter! Is that the reason you carry them instead of, say aluminum or titanium ones? Really nice!
Awesome video Corp. You are a legend
Practical skills, taught by a skilled and practical guy. Absolute BS free. These are the best videos! Keep it up!
Outstanding! Always learning something new!
Fisherman’s knot is one of my favorites.
Simple hacks presented in a KISS way that I learned a long time ago, yet I still learnt something new! I do believe you should make yourself a 12 gauge hardened steel thumb thimble...
I really like the empty bic lighter thing - great stuff!
I can honestly say I’ve never seen the empty lighter “hack”! Very nice- outstanding as usual!
I use the fisherman's knot very often at work tying mule tape together. I can wait till I can utilize the others. I appreciate your time and effort making this for us. See you Sunday.
Bad ass camp hacks! As always sharing your incredible knowledge!
Thanks for your videos. Keep them going.
Shawn, Outstanding Video AF, Keeping It Simple .
Great! I use the fisherman’s knot constantly in all my crocheting- did not know the “knot name”. Thanks for constant tried & true info

Me too 😊! Although it's been many decades since I learned to crochet; I'm thinking there was another name for that knot, just can't remember
Great video Corp. The cord hack was a great hack I had learned but forgot about. It’s time for me to start rewatching your videos from the beginning!😎👍Thanks for everything you do Corp. !!!
Not first
That knot i like. The truckers hitch knot i totally like. All this was good ideas.
I never have much to say here, but this needs to be said: Semper fi, bro...keep up the great work.
As always simple and easy 👍
Lighter trick was pretty bad ass
Thanks For the midweek! See you Sunday! Have a great week!
Thank you!
The fine motor skills in those stubby digits always amaze me 😁
Still the best Corp! Thank you!
Thanks, Shawn, and it never occurred to me to use an empty lighter that way 🤦🤷♂️🤷♂️
If you can find a cattail or a thistle with fluff, the spark from a lighter will light it instantly. I have never tried a dandelion but it might work as well. Cotton balls work great if you have one.
Outstanding and awesome as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
Nice video.
Thanks for all the hard work
As always, thank you for the great content! Knots are something I've always found fascinating since I was a kid and learned how to sew.
Great hacks, Corporal. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Thank you Shawn

"Outstanding " food for the brain
Great chunk of tips. Thanks!
I look forward to these midweek videos as much as I look forward to Sunday's videos.
Excellent video. Got to admit the Bic lighter hack was a new one on me. 👍👍
Thank you very much!
Thanks for the midweek skills. 🎉
Hey... Hello everyone! Anytime I watch on of your videos i learn something knew! Nice bic retrofab! Good job! Thanks.
Nice and simple! Easy to remember it. I like it.
Hey Corp. Could you please produce some more "Getting it done" vids in wet weather and crappy conditions? I feel this is usually when people in the wild places most likely need these hacks.
Love it❤ learned something new😊
I'm really liking the new teaching skills videos hope others appreciate as much as I do
Really enjoy your videos. Thank you
Always Outstanding AF. Always.
Thanks for those life saving tips

Thanks ! 👍👍👍
Awesome AF!!! And, the broken tent stake for making fire!!! Simple AF!
Great tips!
Why not make use a stick branching into a “Y” and avoid the notching altogether? I mean, it doesn’t take long either way and they both work. Preference I guess.
@Sam_Iamknot
7 күн бұрын
Why waste time searching for special branches, when most on the ground will do? Can have a stake made-up before you find the "Y"; and laziness kills, repetition burns method and function of the task into the brain. As it too is called, > Training. Even without the rain.
@Clam_Slurper

@@Sam_Iamknot Dude, there are “y” sticks good enough for stakes lying on the ground. You cut it off where you need it or, sometimes, I just snap it off, chamfer the top and drive it in the ground. Tell me you don’t bushcraft without telling me you don’t bushcraft…. Hilarious.
@Clam_Slurper
7 күн бұрын
@@Sam_Iamknot Ehh…and what does the method you use to make a stake have to do with being lazy or training? In fact, doing it as I described in my previous comment is something you can do without making a 7 notch and don’t need a cutting edge for. Damn dude…
Thanks for all the great info about the hacks Corporal 😃, I actually learned the fisherman's knot from you awhile back and still using it to this day, thanks 😁, that last one is totally awesome, definitely gotta try that one out 👍🤙🤙🤙
Awesome hacks!
This was out fucking standing
Sharing u over on tecas news studio again ml.
Cool lighter trick! I hadn't seen that one yet. Too legit.
Once again the Corporal " pegged " it right ! ! !
