It's not "I have too many guitars", it's "I too, have many guitars." There is no such thing as too many guitars. hahaha
My spouse doesn't question my collection. She has eight guitars herself. She has always encouraged me to do what makes me happy. She even compliments my playing. Choose your guitars carefully and your partner with at least as much care.

Agreed and I am also with a partner who values my hobby and passion for guitars. I must exercise restraint and if a new piece comes in one must go out. I have all my needs met with a rotation of 10 guitars. The challenge now is to find guitars that rival what I have. My 2013 Gibson isn’t going anywhere nor is my partcaster Strat made with warmoth parts. They may prove to be irreplaceable but that’s no reason to stop looking.

For Christmas, my youngest daughter gave me a T-shirt: "It's not hording, if it's guitars." So...yeah. I'm huffing tone glue.
1. You can buy a really nice instrument for the amount you’re spending annually to insure the collection 2. Maintenance on multiple humidifiers has become too labor intensive. 3. You need to draw maps to find where a certain guitar(s) is stored. 4. You’re piling more instruments horizontally on top of upright cases. 5. Your bank account is severely disproportionate to your collection investment
All you need is ONE. One MORE.
My guitars never ran out of my life and took half of my money. And they never got mad when I was looking around at different models or wanted to play a different one for a while. Variety being the spice of life and all…

I still have un-used space in the house, therefore more guitars are necessary to fill the space!
My better half asked me a month ago why I had so many guitars. Made me think, out of nine guitars, I was only really happy with three of them. So I started a project called «1for2». In the end I sold six guitars, and bought three: two ESP Horizon NTs and a Collings 290. Now I have six guitars I’m happy with.
As I watch this, I have 4 Strat necks in the living room, an SG and a Strat being built on the kitchen table, an SG to be delivered, one Strat body in my shop with paint drying, and a whole room full of other guitars. I’ve come to realize, It’s great to be single! 😎

What bugs me the most is the guitars I think I still own but can't seem to find anywhere in my house.
After I retired, I started assembling electric guitars. I currently have 27 of them. I still can't play one because it's more fun to work on one than it is to practice.
I was starting to feel guilty for having too many guitars and for spending money on 4 acoustics, 2 hollowbodies & an electro-resonator. I feel much better about myself now. But seriously, I’m going into recovery. I can’t imagine having so many guitars that I don’t know where they all are. I already get stressed about giving all my guitars enough playing time!

I can relate. Rotating my guitars can be more of an obligation than a leisurely hobby.
Why did I wake up to a hit piece? The custom guitar order can also include unfinished partscaster builds.
living in the Seattle area a local billionaire had a shared warehouse set up with his [and others] car collections , on the wall was a vintage winning indy car worth about a million at the time. He bought another building and moved all of his cars to his new spot so he could expand and consolidate his collection. Several years after his move he realized he had forgotten the indy car, it was still on the wall at the other location.
I’m an old geazer…at this point in my life I have everything I want. Electrics: 3 Telecasters, 4 Stratocasters, 2 Les Pauls Acoustics: 3 Gibsons; 3 Martins That’s a total of 15 which is manageable for storage/display, as well as routine maintenance, humidity, strings changes, etc. So I personally think you can be swamped with anything more than 15 😂

I still don’t have toooo many. I occasionally do a “play every guitar” weekend and still have time on Sunday evening. When I need a 3 day weekend, then, I’ll think about slowing down 😎
Reminds me of a line from Tom Waits - I don't have a drinking problem, unless I can't get a drink.
Feeling attacked by the thumbnail
Had 22 and now I'm down to 18 that I really love " and just can not part with..just got my first real Gibson this year. And now I'm hooked"
I recall hearing a story about William Randolph Hearst, the publishing tycoon, sending one of his employees on a worldwide search for a piece of art he wanted to acquire, only to get a report back that he already owned it. If this ever happens to me with Jimmy Page's Les Paul, I'll admit to having too many guitars.
So glad I get a pass on multiple Strats, does that apply to Teles too? Great video, I smiled and nodded my head throughout!
One more clue that you have too many guitars:when one has to rent a mini-storage for your guitar 'overflow' , or simply the ones that will not fit in your house, office or garage. Essentially , when one is paying monthly rent to store guitars that will not get played, or even seen........that's a real problem.....
I'm old. I have played many, many guitars. I own 4 at this moment. Sometimes, I'll go on a guitar safari. Usually, whenever I do, I come home empty-handed. If I'm trying out a guitar and I play a lot. It has to have some kind of mojo. It has to speak to me. And if it does, I do whatever it takes to buy it. You can line 10 L.P.s in a row, and they will all sound a little different. So far, I have a Tribute Gibson Les Paul( I know it's the least expensive one, but it has that magical mojo) an American deluxe strat, it is very light and the two point trem actually stays in tune. And speaking of staying in tune, I have a P.R.S.se, again a cheaper model, but it's unbelievable. And last but certainly not least is my Gibson e.s.339. Which I absolutely love. I'll get more guitars, I'm sure But I can be very picky. I'll only get one if it has that Blackmagic. PEACE

@mikemorgan4774 Mr. Mike Morgan ,good sir. That is the hardest guitar to find. I played a Rickenbacker years ago. It was a 12 string. It definitely had mojo. I tried to buy it. Couldn't make the deal. But you are correct, good sir. I need one, badly. And I will have one. Only a matter of time. It's 100% on the list.
I have 30 guitars, 3 are in rotation in the living room the rest upstairs. Nobody asks to borrow them, I'm the only player in my circle except Pastor at work and he acoustic only. Nothing over 1300 max, most 450 to 900. Never custom order, I need more guitars! That Ibanez Iceman is looking tempting and if they re release that Destroyer with the 3 pups...
I DO INDEED have too many guitars, BUT...I got a Prs SE Tremonti a while back, one of the last guitars I purchased. It was half the price of even a used PRS, a deal I just couldn't miss. I'd never had a PRS, American, Korean, none. AND I am glad I did because now I know how good even these lower priced SE's are. They are different than Fenders, they are different from Gibsons and now I know why people dig PRS guitars. This is why I have so many guitars anyway, just to experience all there is out there. Variety is the spice of life.
Hey, now wait a minute Jonathan! I have TWO of the Eric Johnson thinlines!!! And a maple neck. And a rosewood neck. And a Virginia...
I used to bring my guitars to a tech who took a long time to do repairs just so I could free up some space for more guitars
Strings and set ups quarterly is what got Me. Have so many guitars to set up, that I’m doing at least one month. Trying to keep 4-5 in the rotation.
You think Baxter’s organized? I have a spreadsheet for each guitar with all the details and some pictures. Everything from date of last string change, serial #, woods, neck profiles, where bought, purchase price, etc. I’m nutz!
I started building guitars back in 2010. I wanted to prove to myself that I could build a great guitar for a lot less than $2000. I was successful, so I built another one, and another one, now I have 20+ guitars hanging on my apartment walls. Most of them I built, some purchased. I've donated some to charities, given some to friends. I really love the feeling when a guitar turns out great, I think more so than playing. Playing is fun and I love it, but building is a whole new high.
I bought a new SG Special. Passed on a birth year Special six months later because I had one. My daughter yelled at me in front of the salesman. Three days later I went back and bought it. So, I have several LPs and SGs, but only two are the same model. I am having the short vibrola put back on the vintage one so they will be different. And the neck on a 71 is super narrow so it is much different than the new one. This is a safe place, right? I don’t have to justify my purchase any more. My daughter made me do it.
I do have a few guitars......and they are all getting used (when the opportunity arises...) for recording my Music Videos. Different Tunes beg for different textures, sounds, etc. I had to have that Danelectro Baby Sitar! It is so much better than sticking foil or something under your strings!
Great video. Yes, I have WAY too many guitars. But, in my defense, I was a touring guitarist for 20 years. I had to have 2 of every style guitar (in case of breaking a string on a certain song, while playing a certain guitar). Now, as a producer, I only seek guitars to fill holes in my recordings. (Baritone? - check, P90s? - check, Super Strat … really? - etc.) But one a more serious note: I’ve been having conversations talking about where these guitars go when we die. It’s a topic that we don’t want to discuss. But, in all seriousness - I want a few guitars to go to my family (my wife and son) - but I really want my other high-end guitars to land in the hands of younger players. Which could be easy, if you’re still playing clubs. But I’m pushing 60. But I still want the majority of my guitars to go to younger players who might not be able to afford a custom shop strat or something. I am gathering a panel of pro guitarists from around the globe to discuss this on my YT channel. I’d just ask all your viewers to at least think about this. If you were to die tomorrow, where do your guitars go? It’s tough, yeah? But something to think about. Love your channel, Casino! Found you during Covid and have been a fan ever since. ~T
Hey Jonathan, I finally ordered that 59es335vos on the 9th! Supposed to be here on the 15th :)
To be honest, I might have just bought a Billie Joe Gibson LP Junior in order to get the pink & leopard skin case it comes with. Funny video today and very true list...
Bare necessities: You need a great acoustic and 2 electrics; a Tele and something of your choosing. Which could be a second Tele.
#2 Keeps my collection small. I feel guilty for having guitars that don't get played. When that happens, I sell or trade them to thin out the collection.
I have one more to sell, then I’m good. I’ll have 1 HSS Strat, 1 Jaguar black top, 1 Jagmaster, 1 Epi Joe B gold top, 1 Martin 00028-EC and 1 Tanglewood parlor.
Well said,my fellow guitar aficionado.
.....I'm closing in on 50...and now, LOL, I'm in the process of buying cheap guitar cases....for all of them!...because.......my wife, who is 10 years younger than myself, wants to know my plan...yes, it's not a matter of if....I'm going to die....but ....when.....I hadn't planned on dying!.....like King Tut, I want to take all of them with me.....then, I'll have plenty of time to learn how to play them all......

I need seven SG cases myself 😂
I only have three guitars, and one is at my parents house so I have a guitar when I visit. I do want another but I need to get a new amp first, as my current one has issues and it's not worth fixing. Target is a great store. Some of my favorite clothes came from target. It's always a good day when I make my Target run. I don't have a Walmart close enough to me to shop at. Now, where I used to live, there is this store called Meijer. It's like Walmart.
Never felt the need to keep buying guitars. 3 electrics - The #1, the backup and the backup to the backup. 1 acoustic since 1988 - don't need a backup - will just use one of the electrics on stage if the acoustic goes out. 2 basses. The #1 and the backup. Done. If I feel like I need something more I just learn how to play better/differently on what I have.
I have 12 electric guitars and will definitely acquire more at some point, but I don’t have space for too many more, so I’ll have to be selective. I freaking love them so much. I can’t imagine how many guitars I would have if I was a guitar store owner. It would be a problem for me. But a fun problem!
How about when you are suprised by the number when you get around to actually counting? Especially if you count the other stringed instrunents! 5 acoustics 3 electrics 1 bass 5 ukuleles 1 mandolin (oops! Theres 2 of those!) 1 banjo 2 Marshal amps 1 Vox amp
This video seems like pure enablement! I'm glad I don't have too many guitars! So keep your opinions to yourself all who know me 😂
I keep a spreadsheet of when I changed strings and what set I put on, and another sheet with when each guitar was played out of the house. Not because I have too many (I will never admit to that) but because I am "well organized". 😁

And if your wife hasn't called a divorce lawyer, you don't have too many guitars.
Baxter, how do you order food on a cruise ship? do you have them bring 5 things at a time or space them out?
I think you've got it nailed pretty good.
That suit jacket is clean!
I have 3 basses, 2 acoustics and 16 electrics. I have only one duplicate. I bought a used Memphis ES-235 in ebony with an ABR-1 in bushings and a year later I found an NOS Nashville 235 in cherry with a wood mounted ABR-1. That's different enough, right? My guitars in cases are stacked along a wall, the ones in bags (5) are bunched against a smaller wall. String changes...? Hahaha
Diggin' the beard Baxter
Does it count if they are different colors of the same model? I don’t think it should.
I have 3 Gibson Les Pauls, but they are a Custom in Alpine White, a Slash Appetite, and a 50's Standard. Is that too many? I used to have five, but a couple were actually redundant. Only one Strat, one Tele, one 335, one SG, one V, one EVH... I'm not a true collector until I get another core PRS. lol

What about acoustic?
I have three blondes, two tele's and a strat. The brunettes are my 335, Casino and a Custom 125 Archtop hollow body. If there was a fire my butterscotch black guard tele and 335 would be the first out the door. I have half a dozen acoustics and other stringed instruments but I could easily live with just my Martin, my Tele and my 335.....that would work.
I have closet and wall full and have another I started before Chemo but although more then 1 Strat and Tele, each has its own specific Tone, I do have others play my guitars so not only can they be Enjoyed but so I can fine tune Tone and playability before its sent off to a Charity to Auction off, Don't have any spare hidden or forgotten Guitars but still Restringing all 15 Guitars at once can be a bit costly, as you know I have even given away 2 of there one to Ohm's and another to Sean
Number 5 brought it home. I change 5 guitars at a time to make it hurt less.
😂”get rid of those people”😂😂❤Amen to that!!!
Silly question - is it possible to rent guitars? If not, why not? You could have ONE guitar for a few weeks or months and take it back to the rental shop, and swap it for a different one. That would solve a lot of problems. I'm going to search for guitar rental right now.
The sick feeling I get in the pit of my stomach when my wife catches me trying to sneak a new guitar into the music room. "WHAT IS THAT?!"

He’s an old trick…all the electrics are sunburst color; all the Acoustics are Natural finish, now they all look the same and she won’t know what’s new :)
I spend most of my time tweaking them and then I have no time to play. I may have a problem because I check all the boxes you guys mentioned. lol
I lent out my 88 PRS to a dear friend of mine. He enjoyed it for about a year.
I have 18-20 guitars. Many have sentimental value, gift, etc., and am sometimes jealous of the players who only play one (Willie Nelson, etc.) but I think 4 is the magic number. A quality Strat, Tele, Les Paul, and PRS covers the tonal bases. And an acoustic of course, so 5….well, then there’s also….yeah, IDK.
I have been there!!! I had WAY too many bass guitars, I dont tour or gig...just play for fun and play on songs I produce. I ended up selling ALL of my bass guitars and only keeping my Ibanez 4 and 5 string basses since they're my "go toos" and I can get a wide range of tones...but here I go again, I only have 1 6 string guitar and now im looking at Fender Jaguar's...then I started convincing myself I need to get a new Les paul LOL... I need to STOP lol
i have two ES-335s. One is a '09 Memphis black satin with slim 60s neck, the other is a Nashville '59 reissue built in '01. I don't see the '09 much and it lives in the closet. Does that make a bad man?
I so hope I can someday custom order a guitar, forget about it, then have a "surprise NGD"!
When a Hoot and a Holler is a unit of measure over yonder.
When the purchase is only to fill an empty slot on a display rack…then decide a wall hanger can fit on the empty space on the wall.
No such thing as too many. By the way Johnathon, those Frampton humbuckers i called about are awesome.
I justify having my multiple strats and Les Paul’s by them being different colors, neck profiles, different eras, different pickups, and whether or not they have a Floyd rose…. Lol oh and let’s not forget different tunings and string gauges!
I'm proud of myself, I've gone from a sickness of 27 and have sold and given away until I'm down to 7 electrics, and 2 Acoustics. Then there are two piles of parts for more. I still need a good Jazzmaster and Gretsch or 3.

How prophetic. Five reasons and I have five guitars. I have a set of screwdrivers, different kinds of hammers and saws, so a few guitars aren’t a problem.
My wife just said, "You have too many guitars if...you have more than one". Some people just don't understand!!!
I can open a case every day for a year and be suprised. still going shopping 🙂
I suffer from all except the custom builds (I do have three, but I'm not waiting for any) Bonus, You change guitars when you snap a string at home instead of changing strings
I need to change my strings frequently. Nothing is worse than picking up one of your guitars and playing on dead, dead, dead strings. If you haven't changed your strings in so long that you risk getting tetanus, then you need to change the strings on a regular rotation. Besides, changing the strings on a regular rotation puts the guitar back in your hands and you remember why you bought that particular guitar in the first place.
I've accidentally collected 25 guitars and every one gets played. Plus I've got 9 Les Pauls, 8 are Gibson with 1 epiphone. Fortunately I know how to set them up and work on them. That's the main thing to having a collection is knowing how to properly set them up and work on them.
Baxter getting older, hair more sensible, beard taking over the job!
My wife already purchased two guitars for me this year
Im in recovery- but there isn't a day i don't think about my next tele.
I have a over 100 guitars and every other part of my life sucks. It makes me happy to walk in my music room and see all the cases. I don’t have any friends or family or a car. I just have my guitars. I can remember when I found them and the great deals I got on them. Maybe that seems pointless to other people, but it’s all I have.
When you leave guitars at friend and family members houses around the country so you always have something to play when you visit.
