The last one always surprises people! Here are 5 signs we look for to make sure the rescued cows at The Gentle Barn are happy, healthy & fulfilled. There are many ways to tell a cow is happy, from chewing their cud and meditating to rolling over like dogs to ask for belly rubs. Likewise, it's clear when they're unhappy, scared, or uncomfortable-they look pained, and won't lie down to rest or socialize.
At The Gentle Barn, we see these shifts happen when we rescue cows. They go from looking terrified to feeling safe and secure, knowing they'll never be hurt and always be loved in our sanctuary.
The Gentle Barn is a non profit animal sanctuary with locations in Los Angeles, CA, Nashville, TN, and St. Louis, MO. We rescue neglected and traumatized animals from all circumstances, we rehabilitate them, and when they're ready we partner with them to heal people with the same stories of trauma. We rescue cows, horses, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, peacocks, emus, llamas, donkeys, and more. Cows are giant gentle puppies. I grew up on a farm and I love them. Texas Long Horns are especially cuddly and they are aware of their long horns and are careful not to wack you with them.

For those who don't know this is an animal sanctuary, these cows will not be killed. They were all rescued from neglectful situations.

@@aaronburdon221Chihuahuas are actually really chill. Just don’t neglect and abuse them, those are the one’s you see often being aggressive, same goes for most dog breeds too.

@@4m4n40my sister had a chihuahua and that dog hated everyone exept my sister and my mother i tried to talk sweet to the dog no go could not pet the dog he would bite..i couldnt sit next to my mother on the couch if that dog was around.. not all but alot of chihuahuas that i've seen are very temperamental and I only like one or two people at most... She has some sort of breed of chihuahua now that is a very sweet dog and loves to be petted by everyone

@@4m4n40 I worked at a vet clinic for 12 years. Trust me when I say that most chihuahuas are douchebags. One of my least favorite breeds right next to Weimaraner's. Yorkies tend to be a little yappy, but chihuahuas are definitely the most bitey.

If you trust the cow enough. As someone who's worked with cows (sanctuary, not farm bcuz im not an asshole) They're much bigger when they're 2ft from your face and They can hurt you even when they're just being playful.
I wish all cows were treated like this ❤

A coworker’s cow had the zoomies once and i’ve never seen a cow change direction that fast before. She was running after him, then immediately switched, swung hard right and went after me 🤣🤣 she was such a cutie

I had a cow when I was a kid. She behaved basically as a dog and loved petting and cuddles. Her name was Estrela... I miss those days.

I had a hen pur in my lap. Hens(chickens) hate cuddling with people but she was "compliant" because we were outside, and it was night. This means she had no more options about looking for a safe place to sleep. I was petting the hen, and it purred. The first time I've seen this.

I used to love leaving the city to visit my grandparents and their cows. I loved them so much...hated I was never allowed to take one home lol. Their breed had a curly patch of "hair" on the top.
