Fellow midget of similar age here. The shirred milkmaid dress look is not for me but I love the philomena dress. The laundry basket quilts jacket is fabulous, a real labour of love but so worth all the effort. Happy sewing 🪡🧵

Great ideas and vlog Christine, definitely addresses some of the many sewing skills we tend to avoid, looking forward to future vlogs and progress 😊

Christine, I'm am as my youngest grandson says a nerdy quilter (in other word's I make the stars and other piecing) learn how to quilt those first before making a whole quilted jacket out of them- Laundry Basket jacket. You will be so frustrated. In that type of quilting you have to be perfect 1/4 inch seams or the points don't match. Check out Love Notions patterns for your jacket and shirred dress. Karina with Lifting Pins and Needles has great sewing videos on all Love Notions patterns and also ways to hack the patterns for even more options. Also check out 5 out of 4 patterns for swim suits. On your pin tuck garment I think you would like Pattern Scout. Casey at Pattern Scout has excellent videos too. I look forward to seeing your completed makes.

When I was sewing through my school days and my 20s, we only had big 4 patterns and Burda. From memory Burda didn't include seam allowances. Then, it never occurred to me that a pattern would be too difficult, you just got on with it. I think all the extra help with KZread and indie extended instructions puts doubts in people's minds. If you've done lots of sewing, you can sew anything, believe me, it's having the patience to tackle a complex pattern that's the challenge. One hint for the pin tucks- either use a plainer material so you can clearly see any chalk markings you need, or use tailors tacks to mark pleating lines. Good luck with your sewing challenges, you will smash them! Great video as usual.

This really resonated with me. Yes I was sewing in my teens and twenties when only big 4 patterns were available. When I was 20 I made my wedding dress, bridesmaids dresses and my mums suit! Never occurred to me I couldn’t do it but now I would have sleepless nights!!

Came back from shopping for linen fabric to make my husband a shirt as I too want to upgrade my skill in particular French Seam. I was notified about your vlog and looked in to find we are on the same wave length, been sewing for year but avoid certain pattern. Looking forward to your five skill updates.❤

I’ve just found you! I’m excited to see how you get on with the bras. I’ve not long started sewing for myself because I can never find clothes that fit properly and underwear is something I really want to have a go at 😊

Another fantastic vlog Christine. Believe it or not I am making a shirred sun dress at the minute as the weather is supposed to be a bit better here! I can assure you it is not a beginner skill if you are doing an adult bodice with lots of rows. You have again put some real thought into the other pattern choices. I love the Coast Jacket and will buy the pattern and give it a try as I am not particularly liking the ones without collar. Thanks for finding that one. I make the Waves & Wild Superstar bra and love it. I also need to up my game with the swimwear, and haven't tried pintucks. As always will watch to see how you get on. X

A great variety of patterns and skills. Love the Philomena dress. Bra making ‘they say is easy’ once you crack the skills. I would need an underwire. Might end up you never buy RT W bras again. Like when you made the knickers. Swimsuits aren’t on my radar as yet. But would be an advantage if I made my own. Really looking forward to hearing your thoughts and tips as you progress through your skills challenges.

I made a underwired bra, It's the most comfortable bra ever fits perfect, not going back to shop ones, just make sure you spend the time with the measuring and everything else is easy even though they look complicated. There are some good bra tutorials on KZread.

Hi Dorothy , I am an underwire girl. Wish pattern did you use and was it a full coverage bra? Have tried in the past and did not persevere, other sewing patterns tempted me. Keen to try again.

@@leelahmcguigan7468 Hi,, I used the Madalynne Simplicity 8229 it's a good coverage and its not a padded bra. It is not a firm bra if you are heavy busted but you can use a wider bra band to give more support . I found it easy for my first bra as it has a YT channel for information. The pattern is easy to follow, once you have got the fit right you won't want another shop bra as it is made for your own measurements and comfort best of luck.

Definitely a great vlog Christine! I have complete faith in you and I reckon you'll master all 5 by the end of the year. I think the most challenging one will be the bra - it's bound to be very fiddly though your swimsuit experience will probably help. I'm really looking forward to seeing your quilted jacket whichever one you go for. Hope you're enjoying your cruise - it looks like you are from your Instagram pics.

I've been thinking of making a Marnie and came across the following blog the other day, which I thought might be useful: "This week's Sewing and Easiest Pintucks Ever Tutorial" by Today in Jen's Sewing Room. Have a look, I thought it was a great idea!

Great vlog! 😃I really need to have a go at bra making. For some reason the bra making industry assumes that girls with a bigger back always have bigger boobs 🤔🤷🏼‍♀️ This is not the case, and I really struggle to find nice bras in my size at a decent price. Incidentally M&S do some larger backs starting from an A cup. I think this needs to go on my to do list ☝🏼
