Hi Sharon! Thank you so much for sharing another insightful content! I just finished my bootcamp and wished I came across this video sooner 😭 I’m so glad I’m not the only one who felt like I needed to push my case studies from my bootcamp but rather work on strong case studies before moving forward on my portfolio!!! 😭 This video was God sent, it literally came on time! I was contemplating these past 2 weeks after finishing on which case studies should I pull out from the bootcamp but I feel like there werent really my best and even with the client project 🥲 Speaking of that, I was wondering what you’ve added to your resume regarding on the projects from your bootcamp. I hope we could connect 🙏🏻 Have a great day!!!

Hey hey Nicole! Aw I’m so glad I can help. Yeah literally quality takes time so don’t feel the need to rush. If you rush things break and the effort you do put in you may need to redo things so it’s not worth it. For me, I just put my initial capstone project where the prompt is up to you. Then industry design project. When I was interviewing though, I just went into one case study super in depth. And yes, let’s connect!

I think if you try to understand fundamentals first would be helpful- ex. Complimentary vs secondary colors- know generally what color is and how it’s formed then watch tutorials based on that

Hi Sharon, once again! Can you please tell about the timeline of: 1. Your first case study like approximately how many weeks or months did it take to complete and 2. Your overall UX learning journey or after how many months you were ready to step into the role of job (I know the journey might be personal and differ from person to person but this will help to keep my motivation consistent. )

Hi! So 1. My first case study project about four months or so and I took another three weeks to one month to create the actual written piece on my website. 2. So I was able to get my first work opportunities three months after I graduated but within my first job, I think overall it felt like it took a year and a half to two years to feel finally really assimulated to the role and feel like I know what I’m doing and not be a stranger to ux. I’m certain it’ll be this way for any transition- to feel comfortable takes time.

Thanks for the great content as always. While I agree that there are too many shopping and food delivery apps, and it's best to avoid doing the same thing as the rest, if you want to work as a UX designer in the ecommerce field, you have to showcase the redesign or a section of the features of the web app or mobile app, right? I was actually hesitant about the plan of action because of this dilemma.

Hey! If you specifically want to go into e-commerce then that’s an exception. Redesigning apps that are terrible and improving them say for better conversion or whatnot may be a good move. That can be a more “practical” case study. I still think you should do a more conceptual one if you could though.

Thanks for your feedback and great idea, Sharon! It's reassuring to receive specific advice. When you have time for video ideas, sharing how you handle imposter syndrome in a field with standardized UI interfaces would be interesting. Dealing with doubts about surpassing existing solutions, even with user testing, is a common challenge. Do you experience this inner battle as a designer, and how do you cope with such issues? 🤔🤓👍@@sharonyeunkim

Hi Sharon, was just inquisitive to know whether a strong resume or in general a resume matters in UX Design or not because many of the existing designers say that recruiters do not care for the education at all...but do they even consider cgpa or extra Value added courses?

Hey good question! If you already have great experience it doesn’t matter where you got your education but I notice that is usually not the case. If you are more new to the field I definitely recommend a bootcamp to establish credibility with recruiters of where you learned design. Although not having a proper ux education if you’re new may not disqualify you, in my opinion it will greatly reduce your chances when you are compared to the hundreds of other applicants out there who do have a bootcamp/ux degree.

Thanksss :ppp, recently completed my bachelors in the month of May in the field of Ergonomic Research, Design and Management. I have already taken up the UXD bootcamp too, I was just scared whether they will consider my undergraduate achievements or not, which are mentioned in the resume.@@sharonyeunkim
