    Hi, I agree with you, post-production is so important !! Most photographers will tell that light is the most important, or composition, or things like that but will forget to say than half of the job is what you do at home with your computer.

    Great topic and so very truthful. I’ve seen and heard more photographers that put more importance on sharpness in there images rather than telling a story. Your clients aren’t going to zoom in on every image to see if the eyes are tack sharp. I believe in taking the best quality images possible but if the story is lost what’s the point.

    Here’s the new trend. Keep this in mind especially for those of you who are professionals..... People are hiring the quirky, happy, not so technically accurate photographers, and avoiding the rude , technically advanced pros.

    Thanks for this video, Miguel! Two things that have been fairly new "no-brainers" for me are *focus on post shoot editing AND *shooting in RAW. I know, I know...I sound like a rookie with only 12 professional sessions so far. That would be true. And I'm loving it! No apologies! This new part-time gig of senior portraits and family sessions are a blast. Thanks for your inspiration, Miguel :)!!

    People who are saying this is a promotional video do not understand the process involved. I haven't taken any course per se.. but professional photographers do include their learning spanning across years in just 5-15 hours. Don't downplay their videos. Great video, as always! Question: as it pertains to item #5, what is your particular social media strategy? I could definitely use a video with tips on that one. Who to follow; how often to post; should all posts be similar; is there a better day/time to post; is it best to shoot with a platform in mind - or can I put most emphasis on getting the image I want - and then worry about which platform is better, etc. so many rules, man - which ones matter?

  • @pjaypalmer9437

    @pjaypalmer9437

    5 жыл бұрын

    1. How often is flexible meaning someone that lacks a large number of pictures tends to post less than someone who does...However, I'm not sure if this can be done on other platforms but I know Instagram allows you to check the analytics of your post...so how many persons saw it, when they saw it, the age groups that it appeals too etc; So you can structure the finer details of when you post' such as time, around that. But pick a day when you are mostly free or as free as possible and stick to it...CONSISTENCY IS KEY 2. Shoot for what you want. Unless it is for a company or client who has specific demands focus on getting the image you want. Having your mind on the platform may make you skip or pass over small details or keep you on edge instead of calm and collected, so by focusing on getting your shot your mind is fully attuned with your surroundings and you will have quality, one which attracts those who have the same tastes and maybe even attract those who don't... Just enjoy your work. 3. Follow who you want. Who you would want to follow is generally who inspires you so make sure you follow them even if they aren't as popular. Remember also birds of a feather flock together, so if you're worried about getting a follow back...if they do happen on your page and they like what's happening, for the most part, they will like if not follow...but eventually they might if you keep consistent work. Also if looking for a sponsorship or a connection follow them too whether companies or single entities and don't be afraid to reach out...The worst you can hear is no. 4. Similar in some aspects. Seeing the same tree in the same place every time you scroll would be boring but let's say you have different trees in similar settings; war,m vibrant and full of life. It's just more appealing. So creating a cohesive feed is important. I use cohesive to say if you have a summer vibe going on in your last couple of posts, try to keep that kind of feed for a little bit. You can switch it monthly or whenever, but it is very aesthetically pleasing to see a similar colour scheme or lighting over a set of pictures. Mind you this your page and your canvas so you are free to mix it up when you want but again Consistency plays a critical role in social media success. SIDENOTE- The main thing to remember when you are using social media is that you're approaching an audience so, therefore, stay flexible -for example changing posting time to reach a larger or more specific audience- but inform your followers of any hinderances in a post or changes you plan to make going forward, builds a virtual connection that feels close to a real one.

    If the quality of your portfolio is a result of the images produced by a team with the highest professional quality production am I correct that your are going for a niche customer who understands that a well produced image of this sort does cost big money. It’s great but only a tiny handful of photographers can break into this elite slice of the market.

    I think it is difficult to do. If you shoot in raw, you will always have some amount of post work just to get the colors and exposure right. The holy grail is taking a photo that looks 90% good in camera, and then making minor tweaks in post that are so subtle people won't notice.

    You are 100% right on lighting! It does not exist simply to provide illumination. It exists to provide contrast, mood and shape. You may not need strong lights, but you probably do need lights of some kind. Flash, however, is out-dated. Especially if you want to expand your skills in video as well as photography. Even better than a good light source is an awareness of the ambient light around you. You don't have to be a Light Whisperer, but a good feel for ambient light is worth having. However, I have a serious disagreement with you. Point 1 negates Point 2! Further, Point 2 does not take into account documentary photography, which requires zero retouching. In fact you might find that in a lot of cases, retouching is not allowed at all. Nobody needs to learn retouching except the desk monkeys at ad agencies. The photographer is too busy taking photos. As far as the Potato Photographer is concerned, I don't know why anyone would pay a million Euro for such a photo. I would charge at least 1.5 million. But hey, the owner is happy with the cheaper price, I'm sure.

    #2 if it's a secret, why EVERY youtube pro photographer tells you to shoot in RAW and one even has a shirt that says he shoots in RAW? #3 is captain obvious. Camera sensor is capturing light. So the scene is only be as good as it is lit.

  • @MiguelQuilesJr

    @MiguelQuilesJr

    3 жыл бұрын

    To address your comments, the reason that Fro has a shirt saying to shoot RAW is because most newbies don't do it. Think about it, what would be the point of having a shirt like that if people by default knew to do it? Its like wearing a shirt that says "I Breathe Air". It would only make sense to buy and wear it if many others didn't do it. ;) As for the lighting comment, if this is true then why is there so much conversation about cameras like the A7S being able to shoot in low light, especially when those lighting situations typically have the worst quality light?

    As I suspected, there're no secrets here. This is pretty much what all professional photographers preach. (Plus a plug, of course). If pros have secrets you sure won’t find them on KZread. But I don’t think they have much to hide. In fact I find most of them eager to share their knowledge. They know that no matter how much they teach us, very few of us will have the talent, the tenacity and whatever else it takes, including luck, to be serious competitors.

    #2 & #5 are dead on. Thankfully I have a day job that allows me to afford hiring very talented agency models, and renting locations. Is it the "fast track"? Yes. Would it be a waste of money if someone did not have talent? Definitely! But if you have both money to spend to advance your social awareness, and above average talent, it is a sure thing. P.S. #4 is true...and true in all professional talents.

    What defines amateur from pro? - Better and more expensive equipment - Better models (experienced) - FF instead of APC (More money) So I think that if an amateur gets everything he has a pro ... it would only be a matter of 3 months for him to become a pro;) Anyway, pro often deals with the commercial approach to photography and loses the purely artistic sense that an amateur has. So what's the difference between an amateur and a pro? .... Nothing !!

    I mean when people start replacing sky, deleting stuff, adding stuff, cropping 500% etc, it means they failed to capture the moment or compose it properly. A little straightening horizon, bringing shadows back, slightly popping colors is normal stuff, since colors depend on camera sensor, dynamic range in camera is not so good as your eye. Just a small correction never hurts. I can paint whatever in Affinity without even taking a shot and post as a photo, tho I'd hate it.

    Two free tips for you: your face is overexposed (lack any kind of shadows, depth, contrast...) and the picture lacks detail. Also... DON'T USE AUTOFOCUS (for video)!! Nothing should be a secret, because knowledge is what will make us better and free. We all gain more helping each other than trying to screw us...

    I don’t think he needed you to explain what “overexposed” means. Here’s a free tip for you: stop being condescending to other people and pretending it’s coming from a good place.

    not to sound rude, but none of these things are BIG secrets. "consistancy" is just good business practices. "Post Production" has been around since dark room development. "the importance of lighting" is literally the foundation of photography and videography. Thats no secret, just some people dont invest in learning more about it. "truth about pricing" is another one on just basic business practice. You price based off of what you think the service or product you provide is worth. This is great information when it comes to business understandings, but no real "secrets" just good business practice and education.

    I agree with all of that, but what isn't secret to you or I might be to people starting out. All of these things that I covered came from the many times I run into newer photographers who constantly ask questions around all of this. 👍

    Most important secret is that photography is not a profession at all, never e it’s rather skills than profession. And yes main things today it how you make money BUT if you know how make money you simple do not need camera. It’s plenty of much easier ways. Forgo about! Picture just for fun! Enjoy! Get normal profession and you will always have money for whatever gear you need

    Your video is poor at keeping focus, it seems slow to punch focus. On several occasions, this became obvious and distracting from someone instructing others to be professional.

    Thanks for the support. As for the course details, how would you propose that I'm "upfront" about it? It was a small part of the video and everything else was unrelated to it. Literally every KZreadr has sponsored content in their videos in order to bring you this information at no charge. If you have a better solution im happy to hear it! 😃✌️
