happy it helped man, safety is the key, as long as the family is ok then go for it I say. this was a fairly rough video and beign my first one I made a pile of mistakes that I had to redo, and it was stupid Hot, but we still use the car, and they 3rd row is awesome.

Hi Jude. you will need the back seats (3rd row), 3rd row seat belts and the rear interior trim that allows for the seat belts to operate, make sure all bolts (seat belt bolts) and 3rd row seat bolts come with the order. 1 bolt per seat belt, and 4 bolts for the seats If you want the full 7 seater deal then the 2nd row also is changed so that the passenger side seat flips forward and all the seats can now slide forwards to allow more feet space in the back, for this you will need the 2nd row of seats, all the bolts with them, and some of the plastic covers that go over the seat mounts and the bolts that hold them in place (smaller ones) Make sure the new back seat comes with all the floor trim too as the carpet needs to be swaped out 2nd row back and the back seat will have trim so that when its lies flat it looks like a 5 seater (looks like the entire back part is carpeted and tidy no gaps or missing pieces. hope that helps :D Tim

My car is a Hyundai Creta 5 seater doesn't come in 7 seater at all, after watching ur video looks like I have to remove all the space wheel jack etc and then fix an after market seats. The 3rd row is needed of course, the 2nd row on the 7 seater had the fold down function on the passenger side. I have installed one for a mate that didn’t include the 2nd row. That also worked fine, just lacked the easy entry sliding function

It was different mate to alllow for the base of the chair to slide back when not in use. It slides forward to form the 3rd row when needed

Hi Sophia, I did a quick look at them online and Yes they did come in a 7 seater so you should be fine with the fit out. What you will need is any specific trim (interior) for the 7 seater back, EG: some side trim may have spots for seat belt straps, or a different mood so that arm rests are present for the seats compared to a 5 seater, you will also need all the carpet from the back possibly to the drivers seats especially if the 2nd row of seats (middle set of seats in a 7 seater) has a different function on the 7 seater compared to the 5, EG: they fold or slide forward to allow access to the back, this could mean a different carpet is used so double check that. if you need the middle seats make sure that you get all the bolts and brackets also just to be safe. Finally you need the back row of seats and all the nuts and bolts associated with that. I would suggest trying wreckers and comparing both cars just to be safe, ask to look at a seven seater and compared the floor in the back to your 5 seater. They are identical on the Territory and I assume that other manufacturers do the same base frame for all the models and just fit out the interior differently. Things that I would check just to be safe would include, seat belt mounting points, bolt patterns on the floor of the 5 seater to accept the 7 seater row, and really just again check that the floor under all the plastic and coverings are exactly the same. some wreckers will do the job for you if you offer them some cash, dealerships are generally terrible at this, lots of them would not even know that its possible sadly. A good mechanic would be able to do the job easy enough. Depending on where you are located Id be happy to have a look but I would want to check out the things listed as I said just so that you didn't buy the parts and then realise they are totally different. Ill do some more research and let you know if I find anything that would be an immediate stop to the project. Hope that helps Sopia, thanks for the comments.

Hi mate, they are different, and the bolt spots are also a little different, but the territory has both on its raw frame so both sets of seats will fit. the main difference in the seats is that the left hand side slides forward to allow for you to climb into the back seats easier.

Hi Jorge, for simplicity the way I do it is any car that came out with a 7 seater option means that all the car frames are designed to hold the 3rd row, so you can get all you need from a wreckers to refit the 5 seater as a 7. Sadly the Ford escape did not come with a 7 seater option from what I can find in Australia. So while anything is possible, it would be quite a hard job, you would need to fabricate brackets for seat belts and seats and modify a fair amount of the back end of the car to make it work, then because it was not an option from factory you would need to then get an engineering certificate to make sure everything was safe. Sorry mate, not as easy with that car sadly.

Hi man, so sorry for the crazy late reply, I missed the comment last year (man that’s bad sorry) if the car came with a 7 seater option, chances are that it will work, if it only came as a 5 seater, then you can buy an after market 3rd row and seat belts bit it needs to be engineered upon installation and for safety that’s both a good thing and expensive. If it came with the 3rd row option usually everything is there ready to go if you get the back end from the wreckers

Hi mate, its been a while since i did this one, but from memory yea i think i changed the entire 2nd row seats as the 5 seater version didnt have the slide forward function to allow access to the 3rd row. I did help a guy do a conversion where we left the stock middle row in and from memory yea we had to add something under the rear bolts, i think i had to move or add a plate that had the holes there but where covered up by a sticker. (sorry man its been a while since i did this one so going by memory).

I’m not sure if you’re still responding, but i have a 2006 ford escape (v6¿?) and there’s only 2 rows with a large back. I have 3 younger sisters who all cram in the back so is it possible to add a 3rd row?

lasagna did that model come out with a 3rd row? If so it’s highly possible to add that as the stock platform usually has the bolt hold for the 3rd row. Another option is for an aftermarket 3rd row, it’s much more expensive and would need to be fitted by a professional to compliance and engineer it, but it would be possible.

what if the seat belt upper mount isnt tapped? can it simply be tapped or does it need engineering?

HI mate, they are not tapped, the bolts supplied are high tensile and will taper it as you install them, it takes a little muscle but they go in fine, the guys at the wreckers where I got the kit from told me that this was the case for all of them.

Hi mate, I replaced the middle row, the new middle seats have the sliding feature to allow for more leg room in the back. The carpet on the back of the seats changes too. You could get away with the original ones but getting in would be harder for the 3rd row and space would be limited.

Hi mate, sorry for the late reply, just moved interstate so haven't checked the computer for a while. If you are just doing the 3rd Row remember you need the seat belts and the interior covers on the side to allow the belts to fit. As fo getting them fitted, I don't know Adelaide well sorry, Its a drive but I'd be happy to help out (I now live in Ballarat Vic) but im sure there is a closer option, though. I'll ask around some of the car networks im a part of and let ya know.

Carly B it will depend on what you get the interior parts from the wrecker for, I got a full interior for $1600 then sold the old parts (seats, trim etc...) for $500 so about $1000 ish for parts then the install cost of you don't do it yourself.

Do you have something for Xtrail 2016? I want to convert to 3 row but I don´t know how! :(

Hi Roberto, I don't have any video's on that conversion but it is totally doable, the range comes with a 7 seater version so all you need is the back section of internal parts, seats and trim + the bolts to do it. A good wrecker will provide everything you need to do the conversion.

Hey bud nice job. I have 3 car seats in 5 seater. Another kid coming so need extra seats. Would conversion work with fitting car seats in 4 positions ok? I am thinking of space for kids legs. After conversion how much 'boot' space is there (dimensions). I am thinking of groceries and prams. Cheers

HI mate, Ill measure it up for you and get back to ya. The back seats still have mounting points for car boster seats, however geting into the back row needs acces from the rear passanger seat which slides forward and leans forward so you couldn't fit a mounted seat there easily. The car would be big enough for 4 seats, but even without looking the boot would be limited with a large pram and groceries would also be limited with a pram as well. Ill measure it up though and let ya know.

Hi Tim. The original seat in 2-1 with a fold down seat. Can you get a back row in the same config, so could put down one seat for easy entry and put pram/groceries on the folded down seat? James

kingjim007 sorry mate, I never got back to you. The back is fixed 2 seater sadly. I know what your looking for, some of the larger 7 seater Toyota' shave separate back seats which you can just fold one. Our previous family car (Mazda MPV) had all back 5 seats removable so you could take out the back or even a side seat totally for a pram.

Actually Tim I experimented with the setup and found it to be suitable. By disassembling the pram I should be able to put one half of the pram on the back. Then can fold down one of the middle seats (e.g. passenger side middle seat) and use this space for rest of pram and groceries). Also would likely have front seat available if wife is doing shopping and I am at work (p.s. woollies online good option if you have 3+ kids!). So I bought some dickie seats off gum tree and a roof rack. Will next get a roof pod for long car trips to carry stuff. So if you keep playing with options I think it can work well. I also found my Territory model does have 2 anchor points in rear so car seats can be fitted safely in 3rd row. Just have to get someone to install dickie seats now!

Ah - in addition to the 3 18mm nuts on each end of the seat, there are 2 x 12mm bolts under the sliding base

Hi Mate, its been a while since i did one of these now. from memory the trim came out as its different to the stock insert (seat belt slots) I dont think the side trims need to come off, there where a number of torx bolts on the side from memory and the seat belt anchors, nothing jumps to mind other than that. I can have a look at ours and get back to you if your still stuck.

Hi mate, thanks for that. yea it will work in all the territory models, just make sure the interior comes from a similar aged car, but they all have the same bolt patterns from across the models from my experience. if you can get a solid interior from an 05 7 seater then you would be set.

Hi mate, Ive had a look online and they didn't come with one, but I suspect that being a Toyota something from a Prado may fit, the issue is that if they didn't come out with the seat then you will need to mount the seats by creating seat belt points and anchor points for the seats rather than them already being there but not being used which was the case in the Territory. Ill keep researching and see if anyone has done the mod before.

Most modifications can be complianced by a qualified engineer, I am unsure about the US laws in regards to a modification such as this, Mostly the cars I do this on had a 7 seater version and so it was an "optional Extra" on the origional car, however the compliance plate will still say 5 seater unless you get the engineering certificate. Do laws change from state to state in the US? There are some differences in Australian state laws but on a quick google search i couldn't find any laws for Miami in regards to conversions to a 7 seater, Ill keep looking though and let you know if I find anything.

What does it cost to convert these to a 7 seater? Just the material.

It depends largely on the wreckers, for just the 3rd row seats, back carpet and side trims I found one wreckers in 2017 that would do it for $150, The care in the video came with an entire interior trim including doors, front seats etc... I replaced both 2nd and 3rd rows then sold the original parts, the cost was around $1300 to buy then I sold the original leather for $500, the more you shop around and if you are happy to do the work yourself (pull the seats out at the wreckers) you can save some serious money.

If the cr-v came as a 7 seater factory then yea usually it’s a simple install, if they didn’t you can get a row added but it’s an aftermarket kit that needs engineering which can be a little expensive but it’s doable

I’d recommend for insurance purposes, an engineer signing off is simple as it uses all stock locations, materials etc… all the mounting points are there so it’s just a matter of finding your local person and they can do the paperwork.

Hi mate, did they come out with a 3rd row from factory? if they did then it should be easily doable. if they didnt come as a 7 seater then you will need to get a certified 3rd row and get an profesional place to install if you want it to be legal. Im not sure of the laws in the philippiens, if they are relaxed, then you can bolt in a 3rd row with seat belts fairly simply, just make sure you know what your drilling into so you dont put a hole in the petrol tank... :D

Claire Clairefear i just done the conversion myself, i wont put my kids in it untill its signed off. Being all factory bolt in parts a engineer would sign it off with no hassles as their hasnt been any real modifications

İm 12 and im gonna do it in my future car, because there is no 7 seater cars here(by the way the video was amazing)

Great question thanks. It’s under the car in the territory, it winds down at the back under the car. It’s the same for both 5 and 7 seater.
