Weltweit machten vor allem drei Ereignisse die Stadt bekannt: das Attentat von Sarajevo vom 28. Juni 1914, bei dem Gavrilo Princip den österreichisch-ungarischen Thronfolger Franz Ferdinand ermordete, die Olympischen Winterspiele 1984 und die Belagerung durch Truppen der Vojska Republike Srpske während des Bosnienkrieges 1992 bis 1995.

Successful 5th marathon edition with a nice finisher medal
Sarajevo is the capital and seat of government of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Sarajevo Canton.
Three events in particular made the city known worldwide: the assassination attempt in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, in which Gavrilo Princip murdered the Austro-Hungarian heir to the throne Franz Ferdinand, the 1984 Winter Olympics and the siege by troops of the Vojska Republike Srpske during the Bosnian War in 1992 until 1995.
