From a long time LEO, the proper words, the proper words are "I was in fear for my life and I stopped the threat." An extra layer of protection is to refuse any comment until your lawyer is present. "I stopped the threat." needs to be your mantra.

This channel is interesting, and I'm sure this guy is a helluva fighter, but you gotta disregard all this "fair play" legal bullshit. I been in literally around 100 street fights in my life. As a young buck growing up in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco (among other places), a street fight was an everyday standard thing. I think my record is 3 different fights in 3 different places within 1.5 hours. All that said? I never ONCE stuck around to deal with any fallout from a fight. 1st rule? Win as fast as you can. 2nd rule? Always stay on your feet and aware of your environment - none of this MMA grappling on the ground bullshit. What's to stop someone from coming up behind you and kicking your head in if you're rolling around on the ground like an idiot? Final rule? Insta-vanish after. All this "getting into trouble" nonsense doesn't apply if you ain't around after. Phone cameras? The fight's over way before anyone whips out a camera, at least if you know what the fuck you're doing. Yep, definitely only ever fight as a last resort. But once you're in it, the only thing that matters is to win or at least survive by any fuckin means necessary. If you get killed in a fight, what the fuck good did the "rules" do you?

Yet I always managed to talk my way out and deescalate things without having to fight. It's not the just the words but also the voice, inflections, body posture, the way you look at people. Show respect & warmth - while letting them feel you're not a victim and you're crazy enough to hurt them as much as possible if they choose that route. @@ashuranero5721 deescalating is about not letting your ego get you into the fight. There are some things worth fighting for, such as when you see someone bullying others, or when they are corrupting the youth. But if a guy just wants to feel better than you and is willing to fight you over something so petty. you are being smarter to avoid getting into a fight because his brain is like a child. If you aren't likely to see him again, it's not worth letting him know he is a idiot. If he is someone you will see regularly, then you should deal with it, maybe just not talk to him anymore because some people can't change at all. There's always gonna be people who don't like you if you are the exact opposite of them. I don't get along with steroid users as I am a natural, but they are everywhere. I tolerate them as long as they aren't encouraging the youth to go down the same road.

    1. if you can run, run 2. if you can't run look for the most advantageous place to start by stalling with your hands up and out while being nonthreatening 3. They will charge you or try to get a cheap shot in, be ready to defend and counter 4. If you countered successfully use that to your advantage leveraging them and trying to keep them pinned 5. After you have them secured call out for others to call the police, DO NOT let them go. Keep them in a controlled pin as long as you can. Ideally until the police get there. These are pretty realistic rules. I haven't watched the video yet.

Great video. There are some instructors who try to make the case for striking first, which is a no-go in Canada. If you are in the woods being kidnapped, then go for it, the assault has already started, but in the cities stick to Rule #2 if Rule #1 fails or you need to enlist Rule #3. Try not to put the head on the neck, it has been subject to several police related deaths, best to avoid it or put it on the head if you have to with less risk to crushing the windpipe. First aid is life over limb.

Remember, prison is intrinsically unsafe. If your self defense lands you in prison, chances are you effed up. Most witnesses won't see what actually happens, and won't remember it right even if they do. (Unless they're a part time boxing referee or something.) But most of them will still be absolutely certain about this and that when they give witness in court. Chances are that if you win the fight, or if they know the other guy, they'll remember you being in the wrong, no matter what actually happened. This is even more likely if you're an outsider getting into a fight somewhere new, like if you're from outta town, or a tourist somewhere abroad. Some places have bouncers or security guards or whatnot, who's job it is to sort out altercations. If you can keep yourself safe long enough for this kind of backup to arrive, they will be a lot happier with you than if they find you sitting on an unconscious guy. Again: no matter what actually happened. Make sure that everyone around hear you saying loud and clear that you don't want a problem. If it still gets to a fight, and your strength and wrestling skills are up to it, just holding on to somebody and playing for time might be the safest course of action in the greater scheme of things. Sidebar: I remember a beautiful anecdote from a professional bouncer on what to do when a crew of scary looking HA walk in an sit down in your bar. "What you absolutely should not do is to challenge them or try to put the fear of God into them or anything like that. Instead, you walk up to their table with a friendly smile, introduce yourself by name, wish them a really nice evening. And then you ask them if they could, as a favor to you, if anybody should try to pick a fight or start trouble with them, send someone to get you so that you can sort it out instead of them." Another time when opening a maximal can of whupass is probably not the correct course is if you know the person you'd be fighting. Like if, to invent a completely hypothetical example that I definitely never saw myself ... when your drunk uncle tries to start a physical fight with your teenage cousin over his "sissy ponytail". Sure you could step in between them and probably knock the tar out of Uncle. But granma will be _super_ upset. Talking them out of it is going to be way safer for everybody, and if that fails: again, wrestling Uncle up to a wall and holding on for a while will probably have a lot less horrible repercussions. I'm not saying that you will never be in a legitimate life-or-death situation. If you are in one, and you fight as if you were managing some drunk a-hole until the bouncers arrive, you're dead. Granted. But if it's not life-or-death, and you fight as if it was, chances are you'll be in worse trouble than if you straight up lost the fight.

A friend of mine in the UK was a Karate practitioner. He was forced to defend himself against an attacker, but also unfortunately the only onlooker saw his first punch rather than the attackers first punch. He had to fight the legals all the way. So whilst it might be best to not throw the first punch, even that is not always to your advantage legally. Beware. But a nice vid.

Articulating use of force has to be done as an objective measure so familiarity with local laws and interpretations of totality of circumstance is central. Warning about spontaneous utterances and such are essential to avoid so practice objective measure of both the threat you perceived and the reason you selected the response you selected.

Make sure in some states in the US you know the separation of assault and battery. If they are separate you have to wait for assault to assault(grabbing/grappling) and wait for battery (striking) to hit them back. If you accidentally get too fired up when the assailant throws a punch and guard to clinch and throw him down to stay safe you might get into trouble for assault because you grabbed them first. I know. It's a really annoying thing in law. One that doesn't make sense to me.

So….according to this video, I’m with my wife, toddlers, and elderly mother, clearly and without a doubt not looking for trouble, we are accosted by someone who is clearly threatening us, and now I’ve got to go through my checklist which includes not only enticing them to attack me but also me providing medical care to them if I prevail? If I prevail against an assailant who: 1. Is not using a checklist. 2. Who isn’t following the rules. 3. Who may be under the influence of drugs and alcohol. 4. Who may have a weapon. 5. Who may have buddies waiting to jump in or hurt my family. Did I get all that right? My toddlers are in mortal danger but I need to primarily focus on what a DA is going to think about some herky jerky cell phone video? Go ahead. Maybe your mother’s obituary will mention your gallantry and legal acumen as you tried to defend her life. At least no charges were filed against you, amirite bro? I hate “reaction” videos, in general they are fake and stupid. But I’d love to watch a reaction video of Lee Morrison watching this video. If he could even get through it without dying of laughter.

Someone on YT came up with the same idea I was thinking. Kevin talked about having your arms up in a boxing position to protect against an attacker launching the first punch, often referred to in the U.S. as a, sucker punch, blindside, cold cock, dirty hit, falsecrack (Hawaii). However, to witnesses and to video cameras and CCTV, it might look like you are engaging in a duel, that is, a one-on-one brawl, in which both of you will be blamed and arrested. Instead, have your arms up but open your hands, palms facing out, fingers stretched apart. This gesture clearly demonstrates to witnesses, phone cameras, and CCTV that you are the one on defense trying his best to avoid a confrontation by appearing conciliatory, "Hey dude, I don't want any trouble." If the troublemaker launches a sucker punch, at least your arms are up to block his fist from hitting you in the face or head. Now you can strike back and follow the rest of Kevin's advice; put him down, restrain him, look around, or take care of him if he's unconscious. The whole idea is to go home safe, sound, alive, avoid jail and avoid lawyers.

Rule 6…..move to low population, low crime states if you have a wife and kids. Vermont, New Hampshire ( Maine is cold cold….but also has a low crime rate.). Secure employment first. They have rare murders whereas the self defense states ….Texas and Florida…now have increased murders from ordinary folks in road rage pistol fights.

If you have ever been hit with a straight right punch to the face, it knocks you off your feet. It is difficult to block a jab or right cross; you cover up. If you let a perp strike first, if they know anything, you have lost. Think again.

LOL... this video should be renamed "CALL YOU ATTORNEY and BACK OFF" Rule 1- Don't get into a situation that you can't talk your way out of, Rule 2- Avoid getting punched first, Rule 3- Attack first if stuck in a bad position and make the first punch count, Rule-4 After slugging the other guy be the first to end the fight and make friends Rule 5- Carry your Attorney's card like your debit or credit cards... everywhere.

rule # 2..try to let them throw the first punch. That is so wrong. You look at any of the instructors who have worked the doors and or have a great knowledge of street fights they all say the only real self defense is to learn to read the signs you are about to be attacked and to hit first and hit hard, You have to be pre-emptive. Check out what guys like Geoff Thompson, Lee Morrison, Nick Drossos, Tony Somers, Richard Gannon, ( I could name many many more ) have to say about hitting first

Gracie or Brazilian jujitsu is the worlds most efficient and effective martial art. There’s video all over KZread of people effectively defending themselves using jujitsu or some sort of grappling. It’s also incredible that it is the worlds most humane martial art. Also Gracie Jiu Jitsu is an incredible martial art in which both people benefit at the same time. And a lot of other martial arts one person gets demonstrated on or takes the technique and the other person does the technique. It’s fun. Krav Maga or all these other street lethal systems it sucks for the person receiving the technique. also you need a lot of speed power athleticism to get these other martial arts techniques off. Jujitsu you really don’t.

In SD there are no rules. You live in a strange place that people have no weapons. Question: Have you ever been in a real fight ? Do you know how fast violence happens?
