While I believe owning a BMW 335i is a phenomenal experience, it's definitely not a car for everyone. There are other car brands out there that require minimum attention and maintenance and can last you a very long time even when neglected. You see that is not the case with most European cars, especially not the 335i. I made a video titled "6 Reasons Why You Should Buy An "UNRELIABLE" BMW 335i" and I said if that video performs well I'll make a flip version of that video, giving you reasons why you shouldn't buy one. Iv'e owned my 2008 e93 BMW 335i for almost 5 years so you can trust that I'll give you the real scoop.

    Great video man. The 335i was my second bimmer from a 328i. After that had to have a 640i and now rolling in an F10 550i with the N63TU. People always tell me..."WHY?, They are unreliable pieces of 💩 and too expensive to maintain!" I usually smile and say...it's all about the SPGs (Smiles per Gallon). Keep the videos coming bro.👍

    Nice honest commentary. What is really informative for possible first time German car buyers is how and why maintenance is so expensive. Aside from parts, it was really good to understand that BMW's are complex to work on, so the labor is high. If you know how to work on cars you can mitigate. So armed with this knowledge, can buy a BMW eyes wide open. Thanks for the insights.

    You won't regent it. I've owed 3 Lexus and 2 BMW's. My first BWW was 1987 E30m3 loved that cars was great no major issues at all sold it when I was deployed for Desert Storm. Purchased another brand new BMW 2008 E90M3 the had nothing but issues steer wheel locking up, DCT issue, nav screen not working, oil consumption issues. Car spent more time at dealership then me driving it. When it work it drove great, power handling were excellent but the car was fraught with issues. Not just my M3 but other friends and neighbors that owned M3, and 335. Ended up fighting BMW of North America for over year until the car qualified for lemon law. 20 years later quality of BMW was No longer what it use to be. In 2008 my wife had IS350 that car was Rock solid in 2011 I purchased Lexus ISF after going to Lexus in side event where I was able to ISF, GS, LS and IS through autocross setup and take ride with pro driver at NJMP on lighting race track with pro driver driving ISF up to 150mph on straights it was fantastic. Even took ride in LFA as passengers of course lol that car was was epic and to this day the most exotic sounding exhaust I have ever heard. Well after 7yrs daily driving it to work in NYC and now weekend car my with over 100k miles on it. My ISF is actually faster and stronger then when I0 brought the car 10yrs ago. First yr added JOEZ catback exhaust and intake. Second yr PPE hearders AFE airfilter. FBO for 7yrs then RRRACING Tune and Tuned intake for last 2yrs. Upgrade suspension once oem finally needed changing. I tried swift springs with Blistien b6 shock drove nice but bit to harsh for my commute into NYC. Then KWv3 great coilovers. Now on Airlift 3H performance suspension they are fantastic. In 10yrs brought my 2011 in nov of 2010 the only major part I've changed was radiator it had small crack on top portion of radiator that was plastic. Change it out to high performance all Aluminum radiator for $700. Everything else has been basic maintenance oil, filters, brake pads and rotors, tires. I have never owned car this long I would purchase new car every 4 to 5 years. Trade in IS350 for 2016 RX350 SUV. Still have ISF and have no plans on selling it. I'm retired now at 55yrs old looking for stable mate for ISF maybe new C8 vette or CPO Porsche 911 GT3. I'm waiting to see how new C8 vette holds as well as letting them work bugs out it since it's new platform. Lexus/Toyota are built to go 300k if well maintained. Can't say that about any German car except for Porsche, down expensive to maintain. Hopefully this helps.

    @@TheDavcrz5 Alright, so my family has owned 3 BMWs yet. 7 Series, 5 Series and M5 we had experienced no major issues and the repair bills were as expensive as we expected. All I know is that your grammar is messed up and you are complaining about BMWs and stuff writing a fake convincing essay that you think will help getting people to support you. Don't be a fanboy of Porsche, be capable enough to by a BMW first then judge it, BMWs aren't reliable because that's literally the point of German cars, they are luxury not reliable whereas if you see a Lexus is reliable but bullshit in luxury.

  • @TheDavcrz5

    @TheDavcrz5

    @@crownfedora5355Crown, you are personification of BMW Fangirl🦸‍♀️🦸‍♀️🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️ having temper tantrum if anyone dare say anything about there beloved BMW. Listen to your idiotic statement and I quote "BMW's aren't reliable because that's literally the point of German cars" what moronic statement, here's another one. "German cars, they are luxury not reliable" So what you just said is that German Automotive companies are incapable of building reliable cars because they are luxury cars SMH🤣😂😅 . Go tell that to Mercedes, Porsche, Audi or BMW engineers. LMAOOOOO, in words of Forrest Gump regarding you "Stupid is as stupid does". your just another narcissistic snowflake ass🤡🤡🤡. So your family has been over paying for years why isn't that nice. Thank you proving my point for me haha I quote "the repair bill were as expensive as we expected" pricless 🤣👍the price for driving ultimate driving machine I guess. Do you know what resale value of 5 series or 7 series cars are after 5 years? Less than half of there original MSRP at 10yr mark they are down to just 10% of there original cost! M5 hold there value better due to there performance base nature same goes for M2,M3 and M4. They retain their value at much higher rate than standard BMW. Now isn't this perfect, BMW grammar Nazi. How poignant I wonder if there is correlation between the too. Hey Fedora your grammar isn't perfect either " SO MY FAMILY HAS OWNED 3 BMW'S YET. " dumb ass. Fedora, in May 2008 for my B-day I purchased new 2008 E90 M3 it handle great was fast and one month later the problems began. I had problems with DCT transmission, they eventually fixed that issue with replacing DCT transmission ECU several times. Nav screen failed after 5000k miles, my electronic steering would lock up. And other issues. My M3 spent more time at the dealership than me driving it. I spent 18 months fighting BMW of North America to get M3 processed through lamon law. Eventually I won my case. I took my money and purchased 2011 ISF. Oh the M3 with taxes was 72k my ISF with tax 70k. I can afford to buy what I want. But only pompous fool would make assumptions that I couldn't purchase BMW after already owning one. Its obvious you know nothing about cars what they're capable of how they're built what they cost. Only arrogant fool would make that assumption. After nearly 10yrs My ISF has 103,000 miles and running like a clock just normal maintenance oil,tires, etc. My ISF is currently FBO running RR Racing Tuned with Tuned intake running E30 blend, with Kwv3 coilovers with other suspension components. Oh my ISF came from factory with Alcantara seats 16 way adjustable seats in front and in rear Alcantara leather and headliner all soft touch leathers navigation. Mark Levinson 16 speaker sound system BBS rims Brembo 6 pistons calpers 14in brembo front rotor and 13in Brembo rotors in back paired with massive 2 piston brembo rear caliper and rotors along with Torsen limited slip differential. Yamaha F1 race team made head with titanium lifters, Lexus designed the 2UR with forged crank and forged rods. It has both duel port and direct port injection seversl years before BMW, Mercedes and Audi no walnut blasting needed on my ISF unlike on BMW's. The 8-speed transmission used in Lexus ISF and LS came out several years before anyone else. Now BMW use 7speed 8speed 10 speeds transmission. BMW was Yrs behind Lexus in these areas. My ISF is just one of my 3 cars. But it's my fav car we have family SUV and s550 Mustang GT another fun car. I'll be trading that in for C8Z06 when they come out. Calling me Porsche fanboy why thank you. I'm big fan of Porsche they build some of best performance car ever. I'll take any Porsche over BMW anyday. Why would I take step back and by BWW. I'd take Cayman 718 GTS over M4 anyday let alone 911 Carrara or Carrara S GTS or any 911 over M4/M3, M5 or M6. Porschc makes one of best drivers car with fanastic handling as well as reliable car. Those are facts you can try to spin them anyway you choose. It doesn't change facts. You haven't presented one shred of evidence proving your point. All you have done so far is to proved nothing but your personal biased opinion. Your hilarious, luxury really BMW interior haven't changed essential with same layout and look of their interior since 2007 they all look nearly identical from cheap 2 series to 7 series. Luxury interior Audi, Mercedes make great looking interiors, look at Lexus LS or LC500 universal claimed to have one of the best interior currently made of any automotive manufacturer by journalist vloggers and public. Luxary really you can get Honda Accord, Toyota Camery, VW's, Genesis, Hyundai, Kia they all offer 80% of what you can in any BMW Lexus, Mercedes or Audi today. These are facts not opinions, you do know what they say about opinions right? They are like assholes everyone has one. All you've presented have been opinions. A recent study took look at average cost of ownership of 30 different automotive companies after 10yrs. Hey princess 👸👸 check this information out you might find it interesting but then again you probably won't since you clearly stated "BMW's aren't reliable because that's literally the point of German cars" the list goes from most expensive to least. Cost of ownership after 10years. Crown your just another 🤬mad crybaby🍼🍼 😭 BMW Fangirl with her tonga in bunch you should rallly do something about that. Cost of ownership after 10yrs. 1. BMW COST $17,800 2. MERCEDES $12,900 3. CADILLAC $12,500 4. VOLO $12,500 5. AUDI $12,400 Let's skip to some cars companies in middle of this list 10. Dodge $10,600 11. ACURA $9,800 12. INFINITI $9,300 13. FORD $9,100 14. KIA $8,800 15. LAND ROVER $8,800 Let's drop down to bottom, least expensive 26. Mitsubishi $7,400 27. Honda $7,200 28. Lexus $7,000 29. Scion $6,400 30. Toyota $5,500 What schmuck your are. Do you even own BMW? one that you brought with your own money or are you using one of mommy or daddy cars. So go head uber Fangirl explain your logic especially to owners of BMW's when you tell them BMW's are all unreliable my bad all German cars are unreliable because they are luxury built cars try explaining that to German car owners.

    Great vid. The most important point: MAKE SURE YOU FIND A GOOD REASONABLY PRICED INDY MECHANIC before you buy one of these. You NEVER want to have to take it to the dealership. I am an indy mechanic and get many of these in my shop. I have heard horror stories of dealerships flat out ripping people off all the time. They wanted to replace all his injectors in this video without even starting with coil packs! And 4k USD for new index 12 injectors is insane. If you find the right mechanic they can be reasonable to maintain. For example, I remove, fully rebuild and reinstall turbos on these for $1500 Canadian dollars. Dealership wants 6k for new turbos etc. I've owned my 335i for a couple years now. It's an amazing car and well worth the money spent for repairs and upgrades. I've only had a few injectors and fuel pump fail, otherwise it's been great. For the money they are hard to beat for what they can do when modified

    I have 156k miles on my e60 550i msport, only had to do regular maintenance, cooling system, some sensors. It’s best car I’ve had, if you can afford to maintain it, I do my own work. People always ask me - “it must be expensive to maintain,” I tell them yes if you take it to the dealer. Great video, too much misinformation on internet about BMW’s. My wife drives e91 wagon and loves it, N52 probably most reliable motor BMW made, just need to refresh cooling system every 80-100k miles.

    I just recently bought an '08 335xi with an N54 and automatic (X drive equipped)... super clean inside and out, 132,000 miles. It has a few minor problems (valve covers leak, radiator just cracked on driver's side tank, tires and a blown strut on the right front). All of which I have purchased replacement parts for. How much did I pay for my "unreliable" 335.... $5,000.00 US Even with all of the repair parts ( I do most repair work myself), I have under $6500 invested... and absolutely love this little car! I will be following your build for idea's and insight... to keep it reasonably reliable and fun. Thanks for sharing your story with us

    I appreciate the honest assessment of why and why not buy a 335i. What about the cost to insure one, or that does vary by driver. On a side note I had the privilege of driving BMWs, mostly friends' and all of them 5 series and they are pretty smooth cars. I think you need some patience when maintaining one. Thanks for making the job easier with an online community of BMW owners to offset the online community of BMW bashers

    I also have an e39. I heard it was reliable, but I've been unlucky. But it's also due to the fact that I am the first owner out of three to use it regularly as a commuter. 100mile commute to be exact. But it's been great, just need to solve a rattling issue ONLY when accelerating and a funky shifting transmission that did shift flare while in traffic on the highway and always in 5th. But it's definitely better than my other options which would have had be doing 0 60 in 8-9 secs vs 6 like a typical car today

    I bought a new 2009 335i, and never had issues until HPFP went bad which BMW put a recall out for. Was definitely 1 of my favorite top 10 cars. Had a 2004 530i and it was super reliable with no issues. Then, there was the E60 M5. This car hands down was my favorite, but.... the maint and parts is ridiculously priced. I had it for about 1.5 year, and it spent more time in the garage than physically driving it. I mean the SMG3 trans was by far the worst transmission to work on, then there was the Vanos solenoid issues. There are 4 installed on the S85, and each 1 is priced from $1400 all the way past $2000 depending where you shop. Also, the tolerances is way to too tight on the rod bearings. These bearings are known for going bad in the first 20,000 miles to 60,000. Super rare to see rod bearings last longer than that. That was a $3500 job btw. And in the end, the hardest part about working on these cars is actually getting software that works for clearing codes and running adaptations etc etc. BMW software for those cars absolutely sucks. With all the work I put in to it and then the work my indy put into it, I spent alittle over 10k in the 1st year. When the car operated like it was suppose to, it was the best car ever lol.

    I love the like joke about Scotty lol. You are right. Most non car enthusiasts don’t think of the small things. They think cause “I have a BMW, I can show off”. The reality is that you need to respect your BMW. And know your limitations when it comes to your driving skills. BMW’s are rolling art. Plus it German, so it over engineered to some degree. Germany is god workshop after all. And I can respect a beautiful looking car rolling down the road. Car enthusiasts know what they are driving. How to care it the vehicle. They know the Pedegree of the vehicle. Another great video man.

    Great video! 196k on my 335i. My daily. These cars are meant to be drivin not babied. I've owned several BMWs but the 335 and 535 cars were never on my radar. Certainly they are not your average commuter BMW. They are a completely different car (beast) Amazing at least! At 55 years old I bought mine when I broke up w my girlfriend 3 years ago. Happened when a kid brought his 535 in to sell at my used car dealership. I had no experience with BMW turbo cars... Just was not into German cars much unless I was flipping them and even then I was not a BMW fan. I test drove the car and I could not believe the performance and handling! I was blown! With over 30 years in the car business I have owned Corvettes, Porsches and tons of other sports cars. My 335 quickly became my new relationship. It was just the perfect car for me and yes just like a girlfriend or wife or kids you will get out of it what you put into it. Heart aches will happen but the satisfaction you get from humbling yourself and maintaining it, is irreplaceable! This car has restored my soul in so many ways.. take it from a car guy that fell in love with a sexy German at first (drive) site. Carsex all over again! Oh yeah.. my girlfriend and I got back together 9 months after we broke up and we are now inseparable. So now I have 2 serious relationships at the same time! Life's beautiful!

    I got in the groove of listening to everyone about my sti and it just made me not want to even drive it out of fear that something would go wrong. I'm fully capable of pulling the motor and replacing head gasket and all the other things that are commonly known to brake. That dont mean I want to cause it is my daily. I've been driving my car for years and no problems. Most of the negative comments are from inexperienced car owners that dont take the right steps to keep their car in working order. Whatever car it is it had its flaws and you're responsible of fixing them. Dont neglect your car just to save money. If you cant afford it dont get it.

    This video is spot on, my only thing about buying a Toyota, I went on to Lexus, it just depends where you’re at in life, while I was single BMW was the way to go and I had a m3, and I would work on the car most of the time, it was not bad and as unreliable as most think, but you have to stay on top of preventative maintenance that most cars don’t from bushing to valve jobs. Now that I’m married with kids I fall into the I don’t have time to maintain the car myself and cost of repairs. A warranty is a must. Would I get another BMW, maybe, but with other responsibilities like kids, home ownership, etc. I believe that’s when people gravitate to Lexus from BMW.

    Bought an 09 335i in 2013 - had 50k miles on it. Was such a fun car to drive - and with a Cobb tune, very quick. Burnt oil from day one, constantly had issues with error messages relating to taillight being out (but wasn’t), due to tune, burnt through spark plugs like no one’s business (obviously this isn’t the car’s fault), needed to have fuel injector replaced, interior was trash (peeled in certain areas due to cheap materials). Overall, really fun to drive - but a lot to maintain. Nice for a 2nd vehicle - but unless you’ve got money to throw around, not a daily driver.
