We’ve lived in Hayward for 14 years and you are right on reasons not to live in Hayward. We live on Round lake and it’s beautiful, especially in the spring, summer and fall. The best thing for us is the slower pace of life. We get culture shock when we go to the Twin Cities, with the traffic and big city vibe. Variety is the biggest challenge. Restaurants, shopping, entertainment definitely are limited in this area.

The Lumber Jack Show is pretty good theater and the fishing museum is my favorite museum in any part of the country. I love it there but the winter is a bit much for me.

Audrey, I left Hayward in 1982, how are today’s medical services in the Hayward area?

Hello, Mark. The medical services in Hayward are very good and they are always added new doctors and expanding the medical facilities and hospital. But they still refer out and send people to Duluth for more major concerns or issues.

My dad's family is from Hurley Wisconsin. The old time preachers used to admonish The congregation to beware of " Hurley, Hayward and Hell". You love it if you like lumberjacks and Muskie fishing.

Hayward is great. It needs a super Walmart and another fast food chain like Wendy's or something

We already have a SuperWalmart, although small. Hardees and KFC were here have left.

@@georgiafrye2815 The Walmart in Rice lake and the Minocqua location is considered a super Walmart. Hayward's is definitely way smaller. Trust me. But yeah Hardees and KFC are long gone

When I was growing up, everyone including my grandparents came to vacation in the area to get a taste of the north woods. It really isn’t like that anymore, everyone who has lake front property wants to urbanize everything. Shoreline modifications, people who want to mow their lawns and fertilize them right up to the waters edge -it’s awful. The Hayward area is losing its north woods charm. Just as my grandfather predicted, most lakes in the area are starting to look like the ones in the southern part of the state, with hardly any natural shoreline left. Invasive weed species like milfoil now found in nearly every one of the larger lakes that have public boat launch, and algae blooms are getting worse and more frequent. People just don’t understand, if you want to urbanize these lakes, it will eventually ruin them. If you want to stay away from crowds, and want some real peace and quiet, don’t come to Hayward. There are still other lake areas in northern Wisconsin that are not as crowded.

The Chippewa flowage is still 90% untouched as far as shoreline development. You must be referring to Round lake and a few others
