My respect to the late President of Singapore, Mr Ong Teng Cheong. He dare to stand up and voice out but most unfortunately met with displeasure. Only yesmen are welcomed and accepted into the Cabinet. It was a mistake they did not carry a state funeral for him - all the more people hold it against the Cabinet for being such a small man.

Deep down I can't thank President Ong Teng Cheong enough. For someone like me who can't drive car, commuting by buses and taxis over long distances is simply not feasible due to slow speed (former) and high fare (latter). Ong Teng Cheong advocated for MRT against the advice of a team of Harvard experts hired by Lee Kuan Yew, which said that buses are enough to serve a small island like Singapore. Without the trains , i can't imagine how hard my life would be. Proud to have attended the same high school as him ✌️

Despite coming from different professions, Ong Teng Cheong, Benjamin Henry Shears and Yusof bin Ishak brought true dignity, if not also the influence, to the ceremonial office of the President of Singapore. Wee Kim Wee and S.R. Nathan surely had the influence but filled the office as if on some sub-national mission. The others figured in lucrativelly, if also controversially, in and out of office.

Ong Teng Cheong nvr get state funeral due to Chinese New Year back in Feb 2002. He stood in a contested election and served six years as heas of state just like former president Dr Tony Tan did. He came up with an MRT system 30 years ago in 1987. 3p years later in 2017 there had been few incidenfs of train disruptions like the flooding tunnel and train collision that Mr Khaw Boon Wan the transport minister apologised for.

@@Dragon-gl1rw The real truth was both hd cancer, but OTC's one was much more agressive than LHL. It had been out in d open tt during his tenure as d President, he wanted an audited report on d National R eserves, but was told tt it wld take many long years to hv it fully audited. At tt time, most Singaporeans assumed that being asked to step down was just an excuse for his relentless effort to want a check on d NR, so up till today, nobody has yet so far seems to hv d power to continue on his pursuit of d NR saga.
