Most Black American people prefer to move to Ghana rather than Cote d'Ivoire because of the so-called "language barrier". Cote d'Ivoire is way more developed than Ghana in terms of infrastructure and economy. Many people in Cote d'Ivoire speak English too even though it is predominantly a French-speaking country. By the way, I am an American citizen of Cote d'Ivoire's origin. For the past 7 years, I have been spending more time in Cote d'Ivoire than in the USA.

100% agree with your statement. The same way non-English speaking countries like France, Mexico, Spain, Italy are able to attract Americans, it’s important for our francophone countries to do the same.

This was my experience as well. It's really Accra where people are flocking to which is becoming more expensive.

I’m planning a trip there Nov 23-Dec 7 and I can’t WAIT!!! Been to Ghana twice and Sierra Leone once but Ivory Coast looks BREATHTAKING!!! I’m going to TRY to learn French before I go… Any recommendations???

@@queenofsheba357 that’s fantastic! You will absolutely love it! Have you watched Wode Maya’s recent videos about his time there? Learn the basics: greetings, ordering, asking for direction… but you’ll find people who speak English too. Are you going with a group or solo?
This is such a great educational series for me! I promise you I am going to get better a French. I am investing learning now

Hello Dr. Linda, I feel like you are talking directly to me. LOL, I am retiring in Cote d'Ivoire and I find French very difficult. You are a very wise women. Your advise is spot on. Thank you for all your blogs and all the info.

@tokendetravel Hi Dr. Linda, we have not officially moved yet. Our home is still being built. We are still in Atlanta. The plan is to move to by the end of 2024. I am taking your advise and really trying to find a remote part-time job. Are you still planning on moving to Abidjan?

I think people are mature enough to make their own decisions. You should have named the challenges they can face. Not to tell them not to move in Côte d'Ivoire. Cameroon is more challenging for them to move in than the Ivory Coast. I will recommend for those who are interested to make a move to do their own research.

None of these were deal breakers for me. However, what could be is, are there a lot of mosquitoes there?

I didn’t really see many mosquitoes. 😄Maybe because I didn’t go during the rainy season… I also used repellent most of the time I went out.

Yes , there are if you don't keep the environment clean. I relocated to Abidjan in 2016 and in these 8 years i still haven't caught malaria. I do not keep stagnating water, i spray anti mosquito once a month when i start to notice a few and i sleep with the AC or the fan on.

I live 5 years in Poland yet I don't know Polish despite the fact that I have tried and I am fine !!! all over the world people do not necessarily speak the local language of the country they live in .in America not everybody speak English either yet they can do well same in UK .i have seen chinese 30 years in france and still not able to make a sentence. .it's all about .organisation and network .
@drlindaenoh

Learning the local language helps with better integration. Indeed If you don’t know it then having someone close who knows it will make your life easier. Otherwise it’s very difficult to integrate and get access to resources and opportunities. Immigrants in the US tap into an existing network like you said (that already speaks English) or their children who speak English.
