    Same. I liked everything in The Burning Red. As Machine Head tried to hit the mainstream, like most Nu-Metal bands since it was THE thing, Machine Head was just too good, and still are too good to be Nu-Metal. As Supercharger was crap, I still liked Bulldozer, White-Knuckle Blackout!, Crashing Around You, Only the Names, All In Your Head, Trephination, Deafening Silence, and the two other bonus tracks.

    That's right, man! If a band would stay in their same genre and music, they'll get hated. If a band always change, they'll still get hate. But the fact of the matter than Machine Head tried Nu Metal and one out of two albums were good, they got back to their original sound, but more conceptional and modernist - because they're better than Nu Metal, they're plain better as Groove/Thrash Metal band.

Burn My Eyes is an absolute classic and until Through The Ashes Of Empires they looked to be washed up. Getting Phil Demmel to work with him again was a great move and I don't think they have put out a bad album since.

  • @maliciousintent756
    @maliciousintent7568 жыл бұрын

    I do enjoy Machine Head's first album. There's a big "Chaos A.D." vibe on that one and it was pretty important in inspiring groove/death metal albums like Obituary "World Demise" and Napalm Death's "Fear, Emptiness, Despair" (along with "Diatribes") to follow a similar route. I like a couple of their later albums too but that nu metal phase the band went through was a mess. Combine that with Rob's " lifetime Adidas supply/secret fangirl of Powerman5000" look just shows Rob to be a a bit musically inconsistent a a bit trend hippy. Jumpdafuck up Rob? no you need to jumpdafuck down man. Jumpdafuck down from bitching about Phil all the time.

    Machine Head is not uninspired. Yes the first two albums was pretty much a interpretation of Pantera's groove, but they cearly did hid with their own, new handwriting. They had some much more complex songstructures than Pantera, sounded harder, had more ups and downs and more raising inside the tracks. Pretty much generated with the awesome complex drums and Robb's more diverse vocal-style. The rest you can call maybe a Pantera-copy, but at all was kicking me much more than anything from Pantera. I'm thankful for Pantera cause they was pioneering that genre, but Machine Head did much better afterwards, imo.

  • @antona.1327

    @antona.1327

    3 жыл бұрын

    Eh, I disagree that the first two albums were an interpretation on Pantera. The closest thing to Pantera they had was the crushing guitar tone and maybe the use of whamy bars and pinch harmonics on some of the songs. Sonically, they had more in common with bands like Poison Idea and Neurosis. They had a sound that was a lot darker than Pantera's southern rock-inspired sound. On TMTC, they had hardcore punk sections all over most of the songs and were already shifting from that groove metal label.

  • @00ELDuderino00

    @00ELDuderino00

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@antona.1327 But Robb told in older interviews Panterea would be one of the influences he was inspired by. I guess you can compare the latest stuff from Pantera very well to the very first stuff from Machine Head, like Walk and Davidian. They had very similar song structures, slow beats with brutal and repeating riffs and also the singing had a lot in common. For this period Pantera is applied as the founders of groove metal and that's what's Machine Head started with.

    I have dabbled in Machine Head off and on for years. While I don't hate the band, none of their music really grabbed me and made me a fan. I can say that the style changes are what kept me from becoming really invested in the band. But, I think it would be a good idea for me to start with Burn My Eyes and work my way up their discography. As for the whole Phil thing. Phil has been making racist remark and back paddling for years now. Hell, I remember various new bits on MTV back in the mid 90's where Phil was being called out about his racist remarks and actions. So I was glad to see Robb call him out. Just because you are in a bad does not mean that you are above scrutiny and should be allowed to get away with such negative behavior. More people need to step up to the plate like Robb did and call Phil out on his crap.

  • @MachineFuckingHate

    People hate them either for the fact that they changed their sound after The More Thing Changes, or for the fact that Robb is very outspoken on social media and has leftist political views and such. I don't give a shit, quite honestly. Hate The Burning and Supercharger (although I enjoyed them more when I was younger), but their new stuff kicks ass. And Robb's political views don't interest or bother me. There are also some detractors that hate the band for silly reasons. Like, for example, A7F fanboys jumped on hate bandwagon against the band (and Robb in particular) after Robb did his review of the Hail to the King album, in which he was pointing out what everyone was pointing out: Avenged Sevenfold simply ripped off the best rock and metal bands and blatantly tried to justify it as an "homage".

  • @themadmattster9647

    i dont hate them, but just see a lot of groove metal in general being annoying compared to thrash or death metal. Metal Archives members call it ""half thrash" because it essentially splits thrash riffs in half. Plus the macho pseudo hardcore thing as far as vocals and attitude. YEah thrash had macho stuff but not in the same overly obvious cheesy way. I don't mind giving them a spin once in a while, but for groove metal i usually listen to Exhorder (As elitist as it sounds lol)

    Bands change and experiment with sounds with every record. Innovate or die. As far as his comments earlier this year I'm with that. It was the right thing to do and people will just have to accept it or go away. Besides if you watch the video he is pretty much telling anyone that will listen that if your okay with or defend that kind of thing, then you can get f*%ked. What's more metal than standing up for what you believe and publically telling one of the biggest metal artist "F*&k You"? Not a huge fan but I can respect this kind of statement.

    It seems a bit redundant to have counter arguments here considering the video is just expressing points of view but still, all the reasons you listed are reasons I hate elitist metal snobs. But i want to address two points; *takes deep breath* A bands sound evolving over the years is what keeps it fresh new and exciting, and in my opinion the most honest, I listen to old music, i listen to new, they all inform the music i write, including many genre's outside of metal. So i wouldn't call it trend hoping, just being open to new ideas and change, hence why they're still going strong 20+ years later. Second, Flynn knew the backlash he would receive from calling Phil out, again this ties in with honesty, how many people thought the same but kept their mouths shut through fear, and again, including this in your lyrics, it's honest, it's true. I love rap and hip hop for the freedom it gives in speaking your mind openly. Sort of reminds me of Aesthetics of Hate, and many old Pantera songs in fact; 5 minutes alone as an example, direct and real, people are just butt hurt cause they don't want Pantera being knocked from their almighty pedestal, but in my opinion Phil did that himself, Flynn just called him on it because he knew no one else would.

    I didn't really listen and I mean really listen to machine head until these last few years. I think my favorite album from them is Locust. There was a time in the 90's when all the pantera sounding bands just became one and same and at the time I was more into Tool and other things. So I payed them no mind. Then when the new metal came out and I heard machine head doing their version of it i just kind ignored it. Then one day I heard Locust and I just couldn't stop listening to it and I bought album and have been listening to it religiously since. After Spotify came out I've had a chance to listen to previous albums and I do like the blackening a lot. Also their new stuff is not bad. And I've been lucky enough to see them live and they put on a great show. Especially with their two hours plus shows. As per Flynn calling out Phil on his Nazi related shit. I don't think he should receive so much hate for it. It's not about being a SJW. The truth is heavy metal was never about hate. Historically, it's been a critique about social issues like war, religious injustices, fascism, racism, drug use, etc. Look at some of the greatest songs in metal like war pigs, foreclosure of a dream, sweet leaf, symphony of destruction, peace sells... quilombo, Indians, and so many others I can't think off at this time. Even Pantera had songs about these problems if you look at the lyrics. I guess that's what a lot of the new fans of metal don't understand and refer to everything that critiques these problems as PC. Heavy metal is about giving a finger to the system that benefits from all that. So the only way I think Flynn fucked up is by not writing a song about it and instead going in a rant.

    Personally, The Burning Red and Supercharger are my least favorite albums. They are heavy but they don't represent who Machine Head is. Yes, they have changed a lot over the almost 9 albums now, but they've improved from each album. The Blackening is an incredible album and most metal fans should always know that. For a band to write so many epics on one album and play such melodic yet such heavy music is astounding. I still cannot believe how they were able to write that album and its entirety. Yes, Robb called Phil out on his actions and it did create havoc. It shows the fans true colors too. Phil is a POS to even do that and Robb had every right to call him out. He is a man for sticking up to one of the 'fathers' of that genre. Every metal fan knows Phil is a huge vocalist, big name, but as Robb said, he's a big bully. A lot of people look up to musicians and when someone like Phil makes a comment and gesture like that, that's not cool. Robb may have 'lost' those 'fans', but if they left because Robb had the balls to call Phil out, they weren't true fans. He's a good hearted person. He is one of the most down to earth musicians I look up to. Machine Head fans don't need those fakes to pretend to like the music. There's the door. Yeah Machine Head lost those fans or whatever you call them, but that doesn't matter, nor does Machine Head playing big stadiums. I've seen Machine head at least 3 times and I'm seeing them in February. I have seen them at Mayhem Fest and in a small bar. At Mayhem, they were told they couldn't play Halo, so they told the stage manager to fuck off and they played the 10 minute song even though they only had a couple minutes left. They are forced to play certain songs at festivals which doesn't allow the band to be themselves. At "An Evening With", they play for 2-3 hours and get to play whatever the hell they want. It's in a small venue, but that is about the best experience any fan can get. There is a really close relationship between the fans and the band when playing in a small venue with 200-300 people. The sound quality is fantastic, every one gets equal opportunity to see the band at a good view, it's amazing. So good that I'm go to my third "An Evening With" and this time I managed to get a VIP pass. To the people that don't know about Machine Head, I am sorry but you are missing out on so much. To me, they are the ultimate metal band. They play well melodically, heavy, and their transitions are so smooth they sound like completely different songs. If you haven't heard them or only heard their old stuff, you should really give a listen.

All I care is about the music. I don't care who said what. I think in all of metal's history there were more stupid things said and nobody cared. I've also been a fan since Burn My Eyes ... I think Robb's personality is just becoming too dominant in the music, particularly on the last album and especially on the new single track. Robb's passion has always been inspiring, but lately it seems a bit overbearing. I think the other band members need to exert more influence and round out the sound and approach MH is taking or things will start to splinter.
