Originally I started as a systems administrator, I chose it because I thought, back then when I chose it, is that it could be more challenging and value provisioning And found out recently, that it gives me a good opportunity to be rare, because, as you said, few people really could be considered QUALIFIED for it. For my experiences I started with a checklist that contains "Area of knowledge prioritized" And this was my sequence: - Linux since I started as a sysadmin - Configuration Management - chose Ansible - Cloud providers - chose Azure - Microservices Orchestration and management, k8s of course My next would be: - IAC - Terraform probably - Application monitoring - SRE Theory and concepts

Hey Nana, yet another devops here. i really love that i can continuously learn new stuff, and optimize processes both for speed but mainly quality and security. this really improves QOL for all colleagues which is my main motivation. yet sometimes i wonder, am i actually productive for the company? i think it is just really hard to grasp the long term impact of a speed improvement, even harder for quality and more so for security.

No doubt it will fetch You bigger salary package, but you end up having no personal time and all the times you are stuck with infrastructure building only, specially in the times where agile is followed. Hi Nana, I had a question about your Boot Camp: How do you adapt your course curriculum when DevOps tech is ever changing? It seems, from the outside, the tools are constantly changing, often very rapidly, and it would be hard to maintain training in current tech/processes. With DevOps being so innately tied to production / process, how does one "practice" DevOps skills outside of the "walled-garden" of a company? I can see the value of learning the tools and processes, but how does one apply these, practically, if we are not already in a company / studio ?

Hi I use to work as a Unix , Sun Solaris, Linux sysadmin. And saw the birth of this new job / function that was basically two jobs smashed in to one. I personally don’t mind like the new faster deployment advantages. That said there are real negatives related to security and dependability on third party packages to deploy & maintain. Lack of deep knowledge will and does result in security issues.

Hi Nana, I have a small question for you. In some companies, employers expect people, called DevOps in that company, to attend on-call where they are available at a moment's notice to fix emergency problems. Do you think this should be part of the DevOps role? Because in my opinion, DevOps should not replace SysOps, just be someone improving the process between Devs and Ops.

For all software devs, DevOps is an area you should allocate at least a periodic block of time to, for example one weekend per 12 weeks, to review your current setup, find current best practices, and make improvements. Similar goes for: security, monitoring and alerting, and probably a few more, that aren't directly tied to product development.

DevOps it's really good and well defined But at the same time it is very painful to implement specially if there is no co-ordination of all team members

i just dont get what devops agile etc and all these things are. - You need to be able to - understand and can design gate logic / boolean logic/Karnaugh maps - machine codes - assemmbly - design a 8086 from gate logic up - program in fortan, then C, then C++ then Js - build a PC - build a website - set up some NAS's - Spin a few AWS - have a crack at your own grahics engine - be able to isnall and arbitary os -instal and use an arbitary app -understand control theory and after that everthing else is just an abstraction.

Between DevOps and Data science, which one do you you think is more future proof ? Also, I've seen job roles such as AIOPS & MLOPS, What are your thoughts on that ?

As a Data Analyst who was previously looking into getting into Data Science, I'm actually now looking to transition to DevOps, but not necessarily because one is better than the other, but because over time the technologies I worked with and my interests has changed as I realized I enjoy working more on high level architectural design, server infrastructure, troubleshooting issues and optimize processes related to database infrastructure, evaluating new tools and technologies etc. So like in the video has mentioned, I would say it's a matter of personal preference and you really need to explore it yourself. However, to answer your question more directly (which is more future proof) I'd say both are decently well positioned, because businesses always need DevOps to deliver software applications to end users, and businesses need Data Science to develop models to solve business problems, and both skills are in demand because they are difficult to learn and constantly evolving, and people with actual skills and experience in those fields are hard to come by.
