Best advice I ever heard from a medical professional

Thank you!!!
The last question was a bullet in the heart point blank
You seem like a genuinely caring doctor, I applaud you sir
I asked all those questions and more. A year later I'm still in pain after being opened up and told it was minimally invasive. Whereas you go in and remove the actual problem of bulging discs that's pinching the nerves the surgeon cut me open, cut the tendons and muscle and carved a big chunk of my spine out.

I am sorry about your outcome. Some surgeons are Jenks. I met one and he was young and into himself. Pain with joints and the spine is awful. I wish you the best.

I've had a grade II Spondylothesis for almost 60 years. I was lucky enough to find an orthopod early on that advised me that there would be many docs that would want to operate. His advise to me was as long as you can stand up and keep going, don't let them touch you. I'm 75 now and know I'm going to make it without the damn surgery.😊
I love this man, so honest!
Super good check list ✅👏
Thank you doctor for your advice.

Best advice!
Amen on that!
And as a surgeon I say. As important as number 2 might seem it is not always possible. Pipkin fractures for example
What about ankylosing spondylitis? Can you do a video on that please? 🙏
TRUE TRUE TRUE
Have you trained any of the spine surgeons at OrthoIndy . That’s a private practice in Indianapolis. If no one, is there a way to get my Medicare transferred to your practice ?
Doctor where are you located? I want you to give me an advise. I have a herniated disc and it's been 2 years and I'm still in pain. I want to know how much you charge. To see if I have the enough funds for that
I have straight spine now. Can you get the curve back in my spine? Thanks
Good one I've had many surgery's rotary cuff six times gallbladder appendix ❤
I’d fly out and just go to u
Damn, I gotta go to Gavin Newsom's California for surgery 😶

#NotMedicalAdvice but.. If you haven’t yet: Get referred for consults to both: 1. physical medicine & rehabilitation. 2. A neurosurgeon with a reputation for having a similar philosophy that Dr. Kim seems to have: Don’t operate unless you have to; and if you have to - do the least bit of surgery that has a reasonable chance to be effective. A good PM&R will tell you if your case is unlikely to respond to non-surgical intervention - they can’t always know for sure - but there are certainly cases where the type/severity of the issue pretty clearly indicates that surgery will be needed. Similarly, a good, honest neurosurgeon should insist you try non-surgical treatments that you haven’t yet tried *if* they think you have a reasonable chance to benefit from them rather than surgery at this point. I advise getting both opinions if possible. Some PM&R will want to recommend injections for pretty much everyone... just like how some surgeons will operate on pretty much everyone with a surgical indication even if there could still be non-surgical alternatives. So, inform yourself the best you can from qualified, objective sources & prepare a set of questions to ask each specialist. If PM&R & neurosurgery think that there is a chance for non-surgical (but possibly still invasive) treatments to be effective to avoid or meaningfully delay surgery - then that could be your next option. Data is mixed and each situation is unique when it comes to considering things like epidural injections & rhizotomies/RF ablations. But for those who get good, lasting results - it can mean meaningful improvement in quality of life for months or years. If your nerve compression is primarily caused by a small, focal disc bulge that could be ‘easily’ trimmed via a minimally invasive microdiscectomy - which would still be a spine surgery but doesn’t involve hardware like a fusion. If the compression is a more complicated situation: that may require a fusion, ie spondylolisthesis (compression via that ‘front-to-back’ misalignment); major disc degeneration (causing ‘top-to-bottom’ misalignment since the vertebra above the affected nerve will be sitting down a lot lower in relation to where it was when the disc was healthy). Often, the compression is from a combination of these factors - the neurosurgeon will discuss your specific situation with you. Neurosurgeon or referring doctor should say if you need an updated MRI or an EMG (nerve study - if you have leg symptoms) prior to surgical consult. Hope this novel of a comment is of value, can you tell that I’m procrastinating/avoiding doing other things? Take care, best of luck.

@@chrisn.6477How do you get your doctors to refer you to a spine doctor i am asking for my 70 yeat old mom who has been suffering and is being treated with injections for pain and is getting no relief what so ever. I read the injections she is getting cause scaring which make it worse, i dont know if that ia true but i have watched her get worse and worse. We talked ro her orthopedic that told her PT with the injections and she isnt to the nero surgery stage yet but she hurts so bad and can barely walk and shes a very active 70 year old. In 3 years i have watxhed her go from walking up right to nearly bent over. She doesnt know how to aak or who to ask for the referral. 😢
