Yes, the unsung surfers are really the heart of surfing. We see way too much of the WSA pro surfing. I prefer to hear about a guy like Larry that goes back to G-Land all those years. Great work putting this together 🏄‍♂️

Inspirational stuff. Most guys when they’re 20 don’t realise 75% of their mates won’t be surfing when they’re 40. A few make it to 65. This guy is the exception. Wow!

This guy is responsible for me riding the best wave of my life in 2010 in G land. I was scared to go because it was my first day surfing there. Then he yelled goooooooo! so i decided to go on it, and that was it, an unforgettable backside tube in a 10 foot wave, followed by a very long ride. If he happens to read this comment I just want to say thank you. 🙌🏾🌟💥

Present day I see him in the same place every year surfing some of the best waves I've ever surfed, and usually he'll get one of the best waves of the day and ride it to perfection. I always appreciate his advice, very intelligent dude.

Love this video. That is inspiring. My main comment is this, he says the hardest part is (the thing that limits you, the limiting factor) is paddling back out. I fully agree. Too much paddling is how I tore a muscle in my back. So now in my 40s I am forced to quit surfing. So it's not about AGE, it is about INJURY. That is the key issue. So, he says he paddles for 4-5 miles, to strengthen himself. But too much paddling is what injured my back muscle. So be careful!!! I think that is my msg here. Don't over-do it.

Very cool vid ! I love his honesty saying; "I don't rip, I swoop" ! LoL . . . mate, if your still surfing g-land at 72 - ya doin it right ! - . . . Like you, I surfed it in '87 also (August), but only for 1 week. It was good/great, but there's just as good if not better elsewhere ! & I haven't been back to G-Land even tho I went back to Java in '03... ( In '87 I left AUS to explore the world for 6 months at 23yrs old, but that soon became an 18 month circle of the globe once I learned to live cheaply, LoL . ... . . There's some damn fine waves around/on this planet ! . . . Go fuckin' get 'em guys !! ... I did.

How luck are you. I surfed from age 10 to my early 50s then the arthritis set in. Had both hips replaced at age 57 and tried to get back to it but had lost all my upper body strength. I’m still grieving the loss.

This guys RIPS on a snowboard. He rides tree lines in deep powder far better then most ! …..and can lay down a hard boot carving session better then most 30 year olds. Although his cooking is crap…… ok, its acceptable !

I met this guy in 1987 at G-Land. I spent two week in June and two weeks in July there in 1987. Bobby had a deal back then if you bought 3 weeks he gave you a 4th week free. I think the cost for those 4 weeks was only $300, I forget, I know it was not more than $400. I went to Indo five seasons in all but never went back to G-Land after that trip. I found Hu'u before that and kept going back there. Lakey Peak with no one out back then pretty much. The locals did not surf back then, and Hu'u was relatively unknown and uncrowded compared to what I experienced at G-Land that season.

Thanks for sharing this story Glenn! 400 bucks is so cheap! I am wondering what's was the worth of 400 dollar back in the 80's, what was a monthly paycheck back than?

@@SurfRawFiles Back then it seemed crowded and competitive out in the water for my liking. The total number of guys on the point fluctuated between 20 and I think probably 80 during my last week(s) in June. And during my last week there I remember it seemed all 80 out in the water at the same time, spread out of course. There were two camps Bobby’s and JoJos and no road into the camp, only boating in from across the bay. Two questions… Is there a road all the way into the camps these days? And, how much is a weeks stay?

@@GlennLaguna Yes ,nowdays you can go with the boat from Bali/kuta reef , we stayed 4-5 days for 450us all inclusive at bobby's. There is also a way to go on the road from Bali with Ferry and driving, which is cheaper but longer. I think there are accoms now also for 20-30 us per day (without meal)..
