Hey Travis! New subscriber here. Just found your channel today, Saturday, 18 May, 24. Like the fact that you're not pushing real-estate here so I feel that you have nothing to hide in your Tucson videos. You're the only one, that I've watched, to mention valley fever. I learned about valley fever (after) I moved here from East Tennessee and the stories scared the crap out of me. I moved here with my dog this past September of 23'. I was worried about the heat here but decided to come anyway. Sweltering East Tennessee, with high-humidity, summers got old! When I rolled into town on September 8th, the high temp was 106 F and it felt wonderful!!! If it hit 106 in Tennessee with 95% humidity, you wouldn't last long outside. Like you and your family, I got an apartment in the Catalina Foothills area. I learned before moving here that the crime is very low in the Catalina Foothills. Crime is insane in Tennessee and I'm happy to be outta there! You mentioned in one of your two videos, that I've watched, that you haven't seen Javelinas yet. Well, my apartment is set between a huge wash and the access road and I see Javelinas almost every morning, before sunrise, trailing through the complex. Coyotes too! The first time I seen them, it scared the s**t out of me! Not for my safety, but for the safety of my 23 pound girl. My pup and I just looked in disbelief and the Javelinas (about 6 of them) just froze and stared back at us. The Javelinas and my pup and I were about 25 feet apart. I picked up my girl and slowly went back up the my 3rd floor apartment. That was insane to me! I spent most of my life on Oahu and Kauai (in Hawaii) with no wild animals to be concerned with, just feral pigs and chickens on Kauai. Then about 20 years ago I got a job that allows me to transfer anywhere within the US, so I do. My pup and I have lived on the West coast, then to the East coast and quite a few places in between these past 9+ years of relocating, but I think that I'm staying here in Tucson. The weather is awesome! The food is awesome! I think that it's a bit less expensive here in Tucson than it is in East Tennessee, minus the AZ state income taxes - ZERO in TN. I have incredible closeup views of the Santa Catalina mountains from my front windows!! The sunset shadows cast from the mountain's ridges is stunning! My balcony has very nice view of the Tucson Valley. I got very lucky with my Tucson apartment with the fact that I found it online, finalized the lease, without setting foot on the property while still in Tennessee. I'm paying $1,267 monthly for a 691 square foot - one bedroom - top floor apartment with a clothes washer and dryer. I was paying $1,241 monthly for my East Tennessee one bedroom apartment with clothes washer and dryer, 635 square feet. Some will say that I'm paying too mush for my Tucson apartment, but my reply is "You get what you pay for!". I like renting and having someone else fix stuff without my paying extra to have it done. Plenty of $600 apartments down in the central Tucson area (with all the homeless roaming around all throughout the night). Same goes in every city in this country. Pick your spot and your tolerances. I don't regret anything with my move to Tucson! I LOVE it here!!! But, the high gas prices and the annual AZ personal property car tax was a surprise. Gas was $4.85 on September 8th, but now down to $3.67 (per gallon). The day that I left East Tennessee for Arizona, on September 5th, gas was $1.65 per/gal in Knoxville. The Arizona annual car tax with registration (for 2 years) was $625.65 for my 2021 Subaru Crosstrek. It was only $37 for one year in Tennessee. My car insurance dropped like a rock after my move to Tucson! From $657 for the six month premium, in Tennessee, down to $303 for a six month premium here in Tucson. I have a clean abstract, thankfully. Anyway, I just wanted to share my story with you and also with others who might be looking at Tucson for their new home. I've been here just over 8 months now and I'm very happy. It got up to 99 degrees F. today. 110+ is just around the corner. Again, I love it here and most likely will stay. Good video. All the best to you and your family, Travis!

Thanks for watching and the sub! If you were to remove the heat from the equation then there wouldn't be too much wrong here. I can tolerate the dry heat, but I love being outdoors and hiding indoors all summer unless I'm hitting Mt Lemmon kinda sucks. My wife is from Florida so she prefers the humidity. We'll see how long our time in Tucson lasts. She prefers the green grass and trees. So one day we may end up elsewhere. But content here for now. I did notice before moving here that most Tucson informants are realtors. They give you the negatives but in a "positive light" because they want your business. So that got kind of annoying. I plan to make a video giving an updated pros and cons list here soon as a recap on our first year here. I don't mind being honest but some people don't like hearing how certain neighborhoods, particularly in West Tucson are awful. It's just the truth. I deliver pizza over there and after dark its scary. I am tranfering to a store in Oro Valley because its safe (and people ACTUALLY tip there) I did see some packs of Javelina roaming around the apartment here. The only thing I haven't see quite yet is a Gila Monster, which is a rare sight I have been told!

There are two UNESCO Cities of Gastronomy Tucson and San Antonio. El Charro is celebrating its 100 years. That's the restaurant you're thinking of regarding the chimichanga. You should visit the Historic Pima County Courthouse downtown at Church and Alameda. The Alfie Norville Gem and Mineral Museum and the Southern Arizona Heritage and Visitor Center is there. And since you have a little one are you familiar with The Play District Tucson? Check them out online.

I do follow the play district on IG. We have some activities lined up. We are just holding out for the more pleasant temps to get out during the day. I did remember after it was El Charro! Didn’t know the US had another Gastronomy city! But I do want to explore downtown when it’s cooler 😎 Thanks for stopping by!

Does Tucson get gusty (dry) winds during certain times/seasons?

Before I lived here in Tucson I lived in Roswell, NM. In the spring mostly we would get insane gusty days that would last all day. I haven’t seen the same thing here. However I haven’t lived a spring in Tucson. Roswell was flat desert plains so nothing stopping the wind but here we have mountains. Tucson does get dust storms but I haven’t experienced one. But so far only summer yielded high winds but only during monsoon storms.

@@travelswithtravis0117 Thank you. I lived in Tucson back in the mid 90's, only for about 6 months though, from Summer to Winter so I dont know how the weather is the rest of the year. I currently live in So Cal, and have lived her all my life. We get high gusty dry winds several times during fall and spring, called "Santa Ana's", and I'd like to get a place that doesn't get these nasty winds. I'd like hear how Spring is in Tucson...

I’d choose Tucson over many places. But at minimum outer areas away from downtown are nice. Oro Valley, Vail, and the Catalina Foothills where we are has been good. But I would never live in South or West Tucson.
