In pokemon masters ex it's implied that red beat gold. The cannon of gold winning was left ambiguous until that statement

Dawn and Lucas should be there.

Those trainers beat red because they where controlled by usnot cause they where inherently stronger. Red possesses the the 3 legendary birdsband Mewtwo which he never uses in his trainer fights, he dose this most likely cause the fights would be to easy for him.

Nonetheless, THEY were the ones who beat them. At the end of the day, we only control them. In their universe they catch them in game, even if we were controlling them.

@@professorpengu502 he has a dynamax band in the TCG and Pokemon Masters and he’s in the list of Z ring users on Bulbapedia + has Z crystals equipped onto his Pokemon in the Battle Tree. Same with Megas, he gives you mega stones in Alola after defeating him.

@@professorpengu502 He uses Megas in the Battle Tree… the stones are equipped onto his team. Why would he give you stones that are specifically used for the Pokemon he has on his team if he doesn’t use them?? He’s literally handing the player mega stones as rewards after beating him. And Masters is soft canon, even if it wasn’t, he still uses dynamax in the TCG, and even if he didn’t, he still has the upper hand since he knows two gimmicks instead of one.

Just because red is a playable battle in the games doesn't mean they defeated him. Red catch every pokemon and helped oak make the pokedex.

@@professorpengu502Oak did indeed create the first Pokédex and Red DID help with its development. These things were retconned in PLA, just like most Pokemon info is when new games release. Now Oak is credited with making the first digital Pokédex instead of being the original creator.
