    Hey Brandon, these are really impressive. As is your ability to demonstrate them. Now, I know most of you guys think we classical guitarists are all nerds, but hear me out on one point. You are young, and can ignore this for some time. But eventually, with your left wrist bent at such an acute angle, your left wrist is susceptible to tendinitis. Much better to hold the head of the guitar higher, with the neck at 45 degrees, half way between vertical and horizontal. (Your fans might check out how Scott Tennant angles the guitar neck.) This also gives you more mechanical advantage, with more potential strength and flexibility. You can dismiss this, but do think of all the players who are spending hours using your exercises, as some of them will be experiencing pain, either immediately or at some future time.

    You are right to point this out, as repetitive motion hand disorders are very common among serious players of stringed instruments. As a teacher of advanced guitarists, I see this frequently, It is best to adjust technique to avoid these problems, as they will often become chronic, which is a nightmare for any dedicated musician. . . . . . .

Django Reinhardt could only use his index and middle fingers, but was one of the greatest guitarists in history. Keep practicing, and remember, you don't have to use one finger per fret fingerings. The SOUND of the note is what counts, not which finger played it. Most of all, ENJOY your music. Good luck to you. . . . . . .

    picked most of these exercises from a short before and included them in my routine, they are pretty nice a variation i like doing of the first exercise is including the g string in between each E, forces me to make sure the tension is appropiate on my other fingers, bonus if you can let it ring as you play the other notes, so: e - g - E - g - e - g -E and so on...

  • @ranhamam8148
    @ranhamam8148Ай бұрын

    The first exercise really helped me with my finger independence a few years ago and would highly recommend it but would add another step to it - after you feel comfortable doing as Brandon explained, do the same thing but with 2 fingers at the same time, opposite directions - for example, leave the middle finger and the pinky on the neck, than take the index finger and place it on the low e and your ring finger on the high e and switch between them (both fingers should press down on the exact same time). try doing it with all fingers combination possible.

  • @oisinfitzgerald5401
    @oisinfitzgerald5401Ай бұрын

    If you want to make exercise one even harder, you can try using two fingers at a time, placing your second finger on the high E string and your first finger on the low E string, and hybrid picking the first string, alternating between the two. Adapted that from pumping nylon and it's superb for developing finger independence both on classical guitar and electric guitar

You develop sudden onset Tourette’s and start cursing in tongues. It’s like getting branded while Superman squeezes your bottom rib. Then when it finally releases you get back up and go back to light finger torture like this.

    Maybe you should consider skipping over the anchored string when it is in front of other notes or you may risk mind fucking yourself by picking the same note three times while fretting with the three fingers behind it. It'll probably cross wire your brain and cause disturbances in your playing.
