Glad to see Bead Maker here since I think it's one of the most hyped up products that just adds slickness and for me it also wouldn't pass as a drying aid since it would mask the great hydrophobic properties of your coating. I even saw the same hydrophobic properties the same as your test even in The Rag Company's own channel when Pan The Organizer tried it for the first time when they placed the hood vertically. If you want a cheap drying aid without added protection, just use ONR.

Or it could be due to the hardness of your new paintjob vs. soft paint you may have had prior experience with. It can also be due to the fact that if your paintjob is new it hasn’t had time to have contaminants bond to the paint yet thanks to you maintaining it clean and the simple fact that you’re wiping down smooth clean paint with less effort vs. rough contaminated paint which requires more effort & harder rubbing which leads to instilling swirls on what could’ve been soft paint. The truth is most detailing products in 2024 work good enough at what they’re made for. You’d be hard pressed to find truly horrible products by any big name brands and more likely to find horrible products from brands that you’ve never heard of that are sold in small local auto body & detail supply shops. [think generic looking gallon products]

I still have a couple in my cabinet and use them in a pinch that are half way decent (VRP being one). I do however like Beadmaker. Definitely not long lasting but the incredible slickness makes it my go to drying aid. And the fact it wears off quickly helps not clog up my coating too bad, a good alkaline pre soak (APC or otherwise) and it's gone...

I think you are spot on with everything you mentioned in this list. I am shocked with you results with metal wax though. I’ve heard a lot of people in the stinger community using that for the finicky chrome bits with good results. I have not tried it though, and I trust your judgement more than most. Also, bead maker needs either a revamp or a rebrand. Their defender product really fills the void as a bead maker 2.0, being longer lasting and having better water behavior (still not the best). I do think bead maker can be great as a drying aid as is, but there are plenty of other sprays that do that job better for not much more really. 3d bead it up is a perfect example of this. The draw of bead maker for pro shops is that it is dirt cheap at wholesale cost and it gives a slick feel that customers can touch and feel the “protection”.

Bead Maker was my entry into detailing and all the options out there. I now use NV Jet and Lustre depending on the paint colour. I still find beadmaker to be quite good - I know it doesn’t work for some people but I used Bead Maker on my Evo for a few years (before getting into new stuff), and found that it really worked nicely. Dunno. Anyway, great video Sandro as always! Good stuff.

I always try to stay away from products that are labeled "revolutionary", or similar. Chemical Guys are only marketing and their only acceptable product is the cleaner for interior textile although foams like crazy and generally when a product is too good to be true, it isn't that good in reality. Every producer has only a couple of products in their lineup that are good...the rest of them are just to be there.

I agree with this all. However, I have had amazing results with Beadmaker personally. I tested it out and was getting 30-45 days stand alone protection. However, I used it to top coatings and more as a quick protection product and a drying aid. I don’t think the protection claims are ridiculous either. I use more often NV boost but if it’s a client that just wants the basic wash I use Beadmaker for those reasons and if you over apply of course it will get expensive like any other product. Living in Florida where it gets so hot Beadmaker does a great job IMO. However, it’s not long term protection just a short term product.

Quite an eye-opening list. I'm surprised to see a P&S product here, but I've never personally used Bead Maker. I do use Gyeon Wet Coat and am quite satisfied with it. I also have Butter Wet Wax on one of my vehicles right now. I probably should have known better than to use a Chemical Guys product on my paint, but it's a garage queen so protection and durability aren't really in play. Thanks for the objective video!

Unsure if it’s the climate here in NZ but along with the shortcomings you listed we also see crazy streaking on black/dark paints and in summer it attracts dust like nothing else. Thank you so much for this video Sandro. I fell for the hype over the Bead Maker product after watching the episode from "Pan The Organizer" after his visit to The Rag Company. He really embellished his claim that it is one of the most outstanding products. You can find it and see for yourself. I bought a gallon of it and after a couple of uses I too came to the same conclusion you did. It was so disappointing. I trusted his judgment and it left me feeling a little betrayed. After this, I lost all respect for this man and have since unsubbed from his channel. I think the man is a total fraud and his real motivation is networking and marketing himself to the highest bidder. It's all about money it seems. No wonder he gets to own high end "everything" including a fancy Porsche and huge house. He has made money off the backs of poor, unsuspecting people by over exaggerating claims of certain products. He has been called out for this and yet despite the negativity, people still flock to his channel. Well, not me. Your channel should serve as the yard stick to real and proper content. This is why I am here Sandro. Thanks for your unwavering honesty.

Super curious, thanks as always.

Anything labelled as 'waterless wash' is a flawed concept. You can not wash a car properly without using water, and if you try, you *will* scratch the clear coat to some extent, no matter what you try. The most disappointing product I have used was 'PoorBoys wheel sealant'. Advertised as a tough wax for alloy wheel protection, I bought some to use on my refurbished alloys on an M140i. It was not particularly cheap but I saw this as 'reassuringly priced' and expected a good product. It was very greasy and smeary to apply and didn't buff, and I noticed almost zero protection or beading afterwards. What a load of old shyte. There are so many brands and products in car detailing, it is an absolute minefield for newbies, but over many years of experimenting, I think if you stick to anything made by Bilt Hamber, you will get a top quality product which is extremely well priced.

Anything with buzz words now gets a -1 point from me. The ceramic (how much is there in it that is ceramic) products are great, but when they stepped up to graphine and tests showed equal or worse it showed that they are realy buzz words. As you said in different vids, your Australian price and availability plays a big role as it should play a big role for different countries, yet the tests are somehow universal. After having bought a lot of Meguiars products here in Europe I am slowly switching over to Sonax for the quick maintenance things. My wallet, like most folks lately, is getting very thin every end of the month so I needed to make a few drastic cuts. One of them being Meguiars stuff being 2 to 3 times the price of Sonax which I cannot justify it anymore. I still have like 3 bottles of HCW, the blue stuff, but I will use it less now. Having a really great time now with the Sonax BSD which I last bought for 10 euro shipped to my door which is like 16.6AUD. Also their 2 liter of shampoo is dirt cheap and good. Also they are very clear about the health and environment statements so I really enjoy their products at the moment. Actually how many products can you have or buy? Maybe it is time for a test between really cheap and still good stuff and the really expensive things keeping in mind that people wash their cars on a regular basis. Price is a serious factor at the moment for me.

@@joeschmoe6908 Even locally it seems to be a bit of a Russian roulette here. Those Meguiars things I bought in France at half the price they were here locally. That Sonax BSD bottle, even in the same online store (starts with an A and you also have it) has the offering here twice on the same page with a bit of different names. (exactly the same bottle, product number and 750ml, I checked on my previous bottle). Just checked again now, 1 is priced at 10.52 Euro and the other at 15.75 Euro, that is 50% more. Try to explain that! There must still be profit on the cheap bottle so I think there is a lot of money to be made on these things. If you can get that Sonax BSD cheap I can highly recommend it. I took an extra bottle and diluted it with approx 50% water. After every wash a couple of squirts, towel and it beads like crazy for weeks, in some cases months. Look at some German reviews on KZread as well. Been on the market for years.

@@cgraham6 In that case another product mentioned in this video, Beadmaker would/should suffice for your situation. I know a guy who has a late model Chevy Camaro as a garage queen and all he ever uses is Meguiars Synthetic Express Spray Wax and it keeps his paint protected year round and he hasn’t had to claybar or polish it since the 1st time he did it several years ago. Some people would scoff at his process and say that’s not supposed to be considered stand alone paint protection. But in reality it actually is sold as stand alone protection for your cars paint. No where on the label of Meguiars Ultimate Quik Wax does it state “should only be/recommended to be used on top of a base layer of actual paint protection” It IS paint protection. It’s simply a fast form of applying it. Is it as strong or durable as other forms of paint protection? No, but if all you need to protect is a garage queen that bearly ever sees light dust it’s all you need. Similar to how Beadmaker should be used and that’s frequently. Most of these people get pissed off because it fails somekind of torture test… Well it wasn’t touted as teflon strong protection in the 1st place, you dummy! Lol. [not talking about you]

I'm not sure what you're doing wrong, but I use quick beads nearly every wash. 2 quick sprays per panel while wet and you get a crazy slick surface and beading. I don't think they advertise it as a ceramic topper or to give you 6 months of protection, but I've noticed my car staying cleaner between washes and the water beads nicely. Using too much definitely leaves streaks, but normal usage leaves a glossy and slick surface and drying is incredible. I get like 8-10 washes out of a 16 Oz bottle, if not more.

The unfortunate reality is most brands know the average DIY guy doesn't know much about detailing, or know when the product is working or failing, or even remember the last time they used the product. So for them the incentive is not there to also spend more on R&D because it won't really show on the returns. They just need slick marketing, and overhyped claims on the label. Even some brands with good products such as Turtle Wax do it with their hybrid ceramic range. The prosumer and professional market know they don't really need to spend as much on marketing and more on R&D to get their returns. So its a different business models for different markets. Its not ideal and I dislike it, but unless the customer on the end becomes more aware and changes, then the brands have no incentive to.
