These are the kinds of videos that GCN really misses out on not having. This format is great; but I think another format that would be great is you two picking out long distance routes in the UK and making videos just on that route.

I adore the Lake District. Top tip - if you take your wife there for a cycling holiday and plan a nice 'easy' flat one, don't drop a little climb called Red Bank (I think) in. It's short and doesn't look like much when you're route planning but must be over 20% in places - let's just say it nearly resulted in a divorce on the first day of our holiday. Loving these videos guys.

These travelogs are quite fun, but feel almost rushed? Would love to see you two talking more about each of the routes you feature, either in a longer video or separate ones. Still very enjoyable, though!

This is loads of fun. I’m in NYC where I was born and raised. Did you know that the hills in the UK and Scandinavia are the same as the mountains of the east coast of North America? They were formed before Pangea split into America and Europe, and they are the oldest mountains in the world, 450 million years. People from big mountains such as the Rockies and perhaps the Alps think that our small mountains are easy because they’re short. But they are short and HARD. When they come from the west coast here to our east coast, they are astonished at the challenges. I toured the British Isles for two months on my bike way back in 1981, and I climbed the hills of the Lake and Peak Districts. My bike was fully loaded with all my luggage. It was an epic trip, and I hope to be back one day. Maybe I’ll have a sticky toffee pudding, as I’ve never had one.

Wrynose & hardknott is the hardest climb combo I’ve ever done. I rode the National three peaks solo and climbing through there in the night was savage. The decent off hardknott at 11:30pm was scary AF. Love the lakes though. Stunning place to ride

As a Cumbrian I can confirm it rains sideways so it can definitely be raining and windy at the same time. Also, if someone says to you "60 mile ride" in the Lakes it can mean vertically too. Cold Fell and Birker Fell are good warmups for Hardknott if you're over the west of the Lakes.

just wrapped a trip there, it was sick! the three passes out of Keswick are a must, and there's a shop at the top of honnister for an emergency coke 😅 highly recommend a biking & hiking trip, to give your body some variety and rest on alternating days. the bus system there is excellent, so just leave your bike at your accommodation and you can get to hikes very easily!

It is a beast of a combo. The descents you can’t really enjoy properly as a reward either as braking from speed takes ages. Be careful on hardknott to wrynose descent the switchbacks come from nowhere fast

  • @EveryoneIsAgainstMe

I remember cycling up the Hardknott with a full touring setup (panniers, tent, the lot) and a motorcyclist passed me and on a switchback hitting 45% his front wheel reared up, with the whole bike back flipping down the road requiring four people to get the biker back up. It is brutal. It is evil. It is beautiful. Also you need to go to Grasmere for the best gingerbread in the world.

Bunch of suggestions that most cycling publications miss from a local: Blea tarn pass from little langdale is probably one of the most rewarding climbs in the lakes stunning views. Hawkshead hill decent/climb to coniston stunning bends early morning ride to avoid the cars though. Lyth valley and bowland bridge climb and decent to Windermere. Stunning area beautiful rolling terrain and some cracking climbs over to Kendal. Very quiet usually. Last of all the Shap A6 road from Kendal followed by sedbergh via howgill lane/b6257. Could even extent this to Kirkby Lonsdale. Cracking riding around there for something a bit quieter but equally stunning views.
