All my memories of my grandfather (Dad's dad) was with him and his little talk box. LA county iron worker. I wore one of those resperators and they were going to fire me for not being fit tested first. I said "go ahead, pull the cord on my termination papers and we'll have a chat" needless to say that was the end of that conversation

I utilize the Miller Titanium 9400i with the PAPR, also I have a Miller Classic Series set up for the PAPR. Yes the rig is expensive, but it is worth it. Plus it helps cool you. I push the same advice on health. A good respirator is one of the best things to have. I also want to thank you for getting the message out to the crowd.

I have been using 4 out of the 5 items you listed for a long time and can agree with everything you said about each one. I just wish I heard about that spreader clamp years ago.. that will definately be a near future purchase to add to the arsenal. My other go to item is a good face shield. I always wear safety glasses and a face shield. Cant weld if you cant see!

Tip #4 , the light weight and rugged 3M 6503QL Respirator has been a major improvement in my welding enjoyment and lung safety. I used to use N95's but usually ripped them off part way through the weld because my glasses fogged up and I just ended up breathing in all that flux core or rod smoke. Since I bought the very affordable and effective 6503QL (using 'my boy's' link) , I use it all the time. I really like that you can breathe normally - and the drop-down function means I don't even have to take it off for non-welding work and then no adjustment when it's time to mask up again.

Anthony, when you are making a surface cut with a torch and you don't want to cut into the face of the other metal: preheat like you said, rotate the head like you said, but when you start the cut, slowly move the torch head back in the opposite direction of the cut while pressing the oxygen. Release and repeat while you gradually work forward in steps. You will notice when the "swipe" is complete when the "line" of your cut appears and you see the surface of the metal you are saving. By backing off each time, you give the metal you are removing a place to go, up and out. Once you get it you will see what i mean. Love the channel. -JIW, lo. 512

I dont mean to sound like a nob but you know on the respirator side you can also get air fed masks? Especially in florida it might feel nicer to use, i never really see them in American videos but in the UK theyre as popular as normal masks. Incase you havent seen them they have a filter pouch you attach to your hip on a belt and it feeds aid through a tube up into your mask, which is sealed around your neck and face... your welding mask can normally flip up but stays secure as a clear mask instead. If you can source them they are much better than a 3m mask and welding hood ontop
