One of my favorite films is John Boorman’s autobiographical “Hope & Glory”, about the London Blitz etc. It’s a COMEDY, because to lil’ Billy the Battle of Britain & the Blitz is a wildly entertaining spectacle that goes on day after day, night after night & makes adults act in new & entertaining ways. In hindsight it’s deeply psychological. Sequence: Billy’s sister bundles him out of an air-war film to shelter...from an air raid: “They’ve got the real thing outside!” Billy, dejected: “It’s not the same...”

I LOVE Philip K. Dick's The Scanner Darkly. Phil was a masterful Sci-Fi Author, AND also Gnostic/Mystic who received amazing and mind-blowing revelations through drugs and altered states of consciousness. I remember seeing Apocalypse Now with my pals as a kid... "The Horror, the horror", also like entering into a beautifully bizarre and scary dream. The other movies you mentioned are on my watch list! When you do a list like this you should put the list in the description, saves me having to wait for my shitty internet connection to buffer when when I go back to check the title after you point out a film I had never seen but find interesting based on your synopsis. Or, alternatively you could repeat the title at the end of the description if you think people will just scroll down to see the list and stop watching the video.

Apocalypse Now... The greatest movie ever made! Curiously based on the Joseph Conrad novel "Heart of Darkness", which takes place in King Leopold of Belgium Congo River, the darkest, nastiest example of African Colonization by the Europeans. Even so, Coppola changed the original so much that I personally consider it to be a whole different script, one which almost ruined him, and almost killed both Director and main Actor. The Hotel scene of a drunken, high, Sheen, was not scripted but filmed as is... Sheen would shortly after suffer a massive heart attack almost taking the whole "Ship" down with him. Coppola was as far down in the "Red" as anyone could be, and yet out of all the chaos, added to by a Civil war in the region of the Philipines in which the movie was shot, comes this Masterpiece which, if I am being honest, I've seen more than a hundred times.

May be a cliché answer but Scott Pilgrim vs The World never gets old (nor does any other Edgar Wright film, for that matter). For more serious stuff, Memento, which is so tightly constructed I always find something new that makes perfect sense despite how that film is told.

I find myself revisiting Stanley Kubrick’s The Killing a lot. It hasn’t aged particularly well, but it’s so cool and entertaining; providing the blueprint for the heist movie for almost 50 years. Its nonlinear approach has clearly had its influence on the likes of Tarantino and Nolan
